Our "young" friend Judge C'onnrd, we are happy to sets, is determined to keep up with the progressive spirit ot the ago and has commenced the publication of his Courier, daily. Terre-Hauto is certainly able, and should support a daily. Wo wish him better success, than was the lot of his unfortunato ootemporary of the "Express."

0£T Owing to ihe crowded state of our oolumn and the late period of its presentation, we omitte to notice the communication of MR. R. SCOCTE?C, vindicating himself against the base and malignant charges which have recently appeared in a California paper. The communictiion of Mr. S. is as complete and satisfactory a vindication, as any

It stanis about one-third of a mile south of the State House, and of the same dimensions as the depot at Terre-Haute, two hundred and fifty feet long by sixty feet wide. The bridge for the railroad across White river is a substantial struoture on Howe's plan, over four hun dred feet in length and supported by abutments and piors of solid masonry. The necessary quan

I have no doubt, from the expressions I have heard, that the members of the Legislature, will, as a body, gladly avail themselves of the opportunity to pay a visit to Terre-Haute. Not only the members, but many others, also man ifest an earnest desire to pay, a visit to our beautiful town. Indianapolis Is called the''embowered city," because of the great quantity of its shrubbery. If those who make this boastful claim for the metropolis would but visit the Prairie City in the ("leafy month of June," they would never repeat

Not only the proprietors of the gas-works, but also the citisens generally of Indianapolis are waiting impatiently for coal from your vicinity. Many persona have already put up their grates and coal stoves, in anticipation of this supply. The demand for coal will be enortnuoa, so soon as the road is completed and yet, I am informed, that but one or two of the proprietors of our ooal beds are making the least preparation lor supplying this demand, ff every roan who owns a ooal bed in the vlainUy of the railroad will get out all the ooal he can, he will not have the slightest difficulty in finding a market for it. But thoee who deal in the artiole will find it for their interest not to be too exorbitant in their prices. The demand for coal here will depend much trpon the price. Wa neglected to state in our last week's issued that arrangements have been reoeatly Stated be tween the Western Stage compan^ and the TerreHaule Railroad company, by which passengers afxi the Mail are carried on that portion of the Railroad which is now completed.j^The Cars leave here regularly at nix o'clock in the morning. Passengers are carried, by the present arrangement, oo the ears to the terminus of this end of the railroad, where coaches are provided to convey them to the Eastern terminus of the road, thence upon the cars to Indianapolis. Hie distance between the termini of the two ends of the road is only some twelve or fifteen miles, and is "growing small by degrees, Mid most beautifully less." Under the present arrangement, a trip to the "Capita! City," can be accomplished with much more ease, and in much leas time than formerly, and the Mails greatly expedited. The only disagreeable feature in the existing arrangement is, that we are deprived of our former Sunday mail, about the necessity of which, howerer, there js some diversity of opinion. ,iW.

IjjTOur subscribers who recefve CJieir pipers at the Post Offices between Putnamville and Cloverland, will be happy to learn that these intermediate offices will be supplied with a tri-weekly horse mail from this time.

We have just been informed that since this arrangement has been effected, through the negligence of the Stage company, these mails have never been delivered. We would suggest the propriety of the company employing a special agent to attend to the delivery of the mail at these points, and thus compb^with the terms of their contrac,

The new temporary Paesenger Car made its "grand entree" on Wednesday morning last, having quite number of passengers aboard. Although, by no meana a fine specimen of workmanship, it is a decided improvement on the open wood-oar by which passengers were formerly transported. m- •4S*
