A miner named Munson recently found in the Globe mining district, Arizona, a solid mass of metallic silver ore lying on the surface of the ground and weighing 2,200 pounds. A careful and low assay of it showed it to be almost a solid mass of pure silver, and worth $20,000 at least.

The Turkish Government announces that it will remit the tithes for one year, and all other taxes for two years, for all Christian refugees who shall return home. likewise promises to repair and rebuild their churches and houses free of cost, and that special officers will be appointed for the protection of Christians.

It has been decided that the sum of 1200, being the residue of the funds collected in England for the Stonewall Jackson statue, shall be invested in safe securities, and the interest devoted to procuring a gold -medal for presentation to the first graduate in each class, year by year, of the Virginia Military Institute

An oyster opener of Toulouse, while opening half a dozen raws for a customer, found a line pearl worth thousands of dollars, and pocketed it. The customer insisted that it belonged to him, asserting that the shells, oysters, juice and everything else in the shells of the oysters he ordered were his property. The law will decide the question.

In the leisure hours of jail life, some inmates in the Chester County Prison have educated and domesticated a mouse. It leaps over bars, climbs poles, walks backwards, and climbs a miniature lad* der reaching to its house. Its owner curtailed it to take away its spirit, and plunged it in a bucket of water for every act of disobedience. This treatment had its effect.

A boy of Cass county, Ind., said he guessed he would "scatter them darned old hens," meaning some women who were assembled at a quilting party in his mother's parlor. He fired upon them through a window with a heavily-loaded shot-gun, and only slightly wounded two but the recoil of the weapon threw him down a bank, breaking an arm and two ribs.

In England, marriage with a deceased wife's sister is still illegal, whereas the colonial Legislatures of Australia have sanctioned it, and the respective enactments received the royal assent. The anomally having therefore arisen, that issue by each marriages, while legitimate in the colonies, is considered the reverse in the home country, law is under consideration in Parliament to obviate the difficulty. _.
