From our Special CorreEpondout. Philadelphia, April 8tb, 187(3. Tho general plan of the oponing exercises of the Contennial ^f 'ecuwas submitted in a report to the tive Committee several mouths ago by G&ueral H.wley, bdtlher., ««. o»r.«« details that were not settled itntn within a week or two past, and, as they We now decided upon, yourcorre

followed is simple, and in

general accordance with the observances^ the opening of previous similar exhibitions.

Tho especially invited guests will be only th«se holdinp: official positions. This avi^ds the practically impossible task of risking choice ol what must have rela\ively been a favored lew.

But, as ihe exorcises are to held in the open air, it will be impossible for a ereat multitude to witness them. 'Ihe Has? invited will be nearly as follows

The President and Vice President, the Cabinet, the Supreme Court, the Diplomatic Corps, the Senate and House of Representatives, leadiog oQir*prs of the Army and Navy, the Governors of the States and Territories and their stafl's, the Legislature of Pennsylvania and|the Board oi State Supervisors, the Foreign Commissioner^ the Centennial Commission and ch?ef subordinates, the. half past ten, on the morning

of May 10th, the persons invited having been escorted to their places in order, though not in formal orchestra of 150, conducted by Theodore Thomas, will play the national airs of all nations. The

the United States will be conducted to the grounds by Governor Hart-ranir, with such military escort as the ernor may d9etn best. The Pre will enter by the north door orial Hall, and pass through tc tne platform, being received wit* the usual Mmsic. Next in order will bei the Gr»nd March, written for tbe occasion by Richard Wagner (for which he re ceives *5,000 from tho Women Centennial Executive committee, they,, in *L turn, selling the copyright for a larger

Whittier origional cantata, occupying about 12 miniites, the words by Sidney Lanier, of ^00Jr~ gia.*and the music by Dudley Uucir, of Connecticut brief presentation i*y th9 President of the centennial coin mission, reporting the exhibition to the President of the United States address by the President of the united States, this he wiil close by declaring the exhibition open. Immediately the flags will bo unfurled, the artiLery will salute, the chimes in the tower and other great bells on tho ground, will ring, and the chorus of 600 will render Handel's great "Hallelujah. The foreign commissioners will move to their respective assignments in the main building. The President, escorted by the centennial commission, and Board ^of Finance, and their chiefs *of departments, architects, engineers, etc., and the invited guests,-will enter the north door ol the main building and move, accompanied by the music of great organs, first to the east and then to the west along the great avenue in such a manner as to pass by each national commission.

The procession will then cross over to Machinery Hall, and walk down the main avenue to the center, then at a signal from the President of the Unitea States, the enormons engine, and its fourteen acres of machinery will be put in motion, and our Centeunial exhibition will be open to the world. There may lollow more or less formal receptions in the Judges' Hall, and at the quarters of the commission.

Theodsro Thomas will have general charge of the music. Dudley Buck conducts the chorou3, which is composed of the various musical societies and associations of Fhiladalphia. There is only one solo in the cantata, a brief passaga, which will be rendered by tbe celebrated basso profando, Myron W. Whitney, of Boston.

There are to be thirteen entrances, to the grounds, oue for each of tho thirteen original States, or one for every stripe in our flag. Each entrance is to be a sell-registerin? turn stile, and it may be known at any moment at headquarters how many have entered tho grounds during the day, as each turn—stile is connected with an electric machine which registers the person entering, at the headquarters of the commission.

The Centennial National Bank will have branches at the grounds, outside, where visitors can get change and mall bills changed to fifty cent notes. Nothing but a liffcy cent note will admit an adult, and a twenty-five cent note a child, No tickets will be used. There will be an examiner at each entrance to examine each note as the person enters, and, if the note is good, the person will bo allowed to pass through the turn-stile and tho examiner will put the note into a self registering box. If tho box and the turnstile do not agree at night there will be good grounds for denouncing the examiner as "crooked."

Large numbers of show cases have already been erected in the main buildiLg, and many of them, though tlie property of individual exhibitors, are very costljr, reaching in value far into tho thousands. Those of exhibitors from the United States,Germany, Great Britian and Japr-in, exceed all others, not only in number, but in excellence of workmanship* Most of them being imitations of buildings of all styles of architecture, a town of the most picturesque character will have sprung up by the time the exhibition opens. This town will not ba wanting in cathedrals, great halls and other buildigns of that class, for the pavilions of Spain, Kgypt, Chili, Norway Sweeden r.nd other foreign countries will answer that purpose admirably.

The Norwegian. pavillion, now receiving its finishing touchs, is about two hundred and twenty-five feet in length and fifty in width. Its constuuetors have succsed.ed in making it an excellent specimen of the perfection of carpenters and joiners art. In appear ance it is strong, rustic, picturesque,in a word—Norwegian. The sideu and ends resemblo somewhat one of tho summer IIOUSPS in the Park, the rounded timbers of which it it is formed having apertures between them. Alobg the border at the topi hundreds of minaress arise and give the whole a reniBrkable resemblanco to the exterior of the Cathedral at Milon. The workmanship of tho Sweedish pavillion is equally skillful.

Over 000 of the voices chosen to take part in the Centennial chorus rehearsed last week, for the first time, the "Centennial meditation of Columbia. Dudley Buck wielded the baton,. and Thomas A'Bscket assisted at tho piano. After the rehersal was over and the singers dismissdd Mr, Buck, expressed himself as perfectly satisfied with the chorus and declared that he could not ask for a better one.

Phiiadelphians are getting up their name as a music.loving people. When Von Bulow, the pianist, left here he said "for a downright appreciation of eood music give mo Phiiadelphians. I like tbem best of all that I have played to That tickled the fair little Quakeresses and he can always fill his house hereafter when he comes this way. The Academy and theatres hero always have well-filled houses, from tho fact thav/ Phiiadelphians demand first-class talent, and consequently nono but artists of that rank are engaged. At the Walnut Street Theatre.Fechter, the Florences and Mrs. D. P. Bowers have appeared within the last three weeks, an'd all b»va drawn crowded houses. At the Chestnut Street Theatre, the "Romance of the Poor Young Man" has held the boards for the last two weeks and has attracted fair houses, but nowhere near such a crowd as the nlav. the cast and the mounting were worthy of. "Ours" is announced to follow the "Romanca, etc.," here. The Arch Street Theater has been well filled during the past two weeks by McWade in "Rip Van Winkle," and the rising voting star, Mr. H. S. Murdoch, in Im new specialty, Nick." Murdoch will surely make a success of Nick, and ni&ny tbnt s'i\v hi in Inst \v6©k would go acaia this week if be were here, but he "stepped down and out" to make way for Tony Pastor's troupe, which now occupies the Arch iu regular order of engagement. l'ut asihia letter has attained to a fair length, I will close it with the promise of more of the same sort next time. To

President Grant's lllnes?. The illness of President Grant causes considerable uneasiness among his intimate friends, and is threatening to assume a very serious phase. The President complains of physical prostration, which produces a reaction on the brain, and renders a cessation from ail mental eflort positively neoessaay. It is satisfactory to know that every thing that medical skill can suggest is being done for the distinguished sufferer, and that absolute rest tor a short time will help in a great measure to restore him to health. The cares of the presidential office during the present eriod ol excitement must necessarily injuriously affect a temperament naturally disposed to quiet.—[New York Herald.

THE SUCCESSFUL PHYSICIAN. From the St. Lotis Globe.

There is probably no man to whom the community owe SO much as to the honest fair spoken physician, who does his actual duty, both to himself and to his patients. Really skillful physicians are not so numerous that their virtues need no mention, and hence the advertisement of Dr. R.

Pierce, of Buffalo, may woll claim the reader's attention. Dr. Pierce is a type of a class of men who obtain success by careful and well directed effort, not attempting too much, or creating false ideas as to ability. The only reliable physician in these days of complicated disorders and high-pressure living is the "Specialist," the man who understands his one branch of the business. Such in his line is Dr. Pierce. For the benefit of his readers he has written a I •'Common Sense Medioni which is well worth reading by those who need such a work. With strict business honor, high professionalskill, reasonable fees, and a large corps ot coaipi tent assistants, Dr. Pierce will doubtlsss mako his nau.e familiar AS household words."
