A Novel Invention.
Tho various scientific papers, a few weeks since, noticed an invention in telegraphy by means of which letters checks, drafts, and ail manner of correspondence can be transmitted in fac ^itnile over the wires from one end of the country to the other, with marvelous dispatch. The invention was perfected by Capiain Bard, a Boston man now living in Chicago, who was old friend and army comrade Dr. W. B. Fletcher, of this city. Cap tain Burd has been many years, expori menting and bringing his theories into oracticle use, and a day or two ago the Doctor received from his friend a few specimens of the work actually performed, which are certainly curiosities. Among tbe specimens are sever al letters, diagram skstches and aland' scape, all reproduced in a style perfect ly true to the originals* The messages are received on prepared paper, whioh is spread upon a bed of mstal points arranged upon a plate, apd_ prer senting an appearance not dissimilato a mammoth brush, to suggest a slm ile that will be understood by all clas3 es of our readers: These points prick the message through the surface of the paper, the electric currents conveying an exact image of the origional at the other end of the line. The invention is destined to revolutioniza the entire system of telegraphy, if half what the inventor claims for it be true, and by its introduction the problem of postal telegraphy will be solved. IIow to get Oil orFJntd Cheaply and Conviently. Now that the attention of everybody is directed to some cheap substitute for gas, let the GAZETTE tell you where to get oil and fluid. The Terre Haute Oil Co. keep three wagons, which will deliver either Fluid or the best Head Light Oil at your house. They give cards which can be bung out and notify the passing wagons to deliver it. The great convenience of this will be appreciated by housekeepers, and the trouble it saves in going or sending after it. The wagons are also supplied with lamps and fixtures of all kinds, so that if you want a burner, a shade, a wick or a chimney, you can be supplied at once and without trouble. The head-light oil and fluid are of the finest quality and nr.n-explosive. They will be sold and delivered in this way, as also the fixtures, at prices as low and often lower than they can be bought at the stores. Address, through the postoffice, the Terro Haute Oil Company, giving your first order and receiving a card, or stop tho wagon as it passes your house.

THE SUCCESSFUL PHYSICIAN. From the St.. Lor Is Globe. Th«re is probably no man to whom the community owe so much as to the honest fair spoken physician, who does bis actual duty, both to himself and to his patien'.s. Really skillful physicians are not so numerous that their virtues need no mention, and hence the advertisement of Dr. R. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, may woll claim tho reader's attention. Dr. Pierce is a typo of a class of men who obtain su cess by careful and well directed effort, not attempting too much, or creating false ideas as to ability. The only reliable physician in these days of complicated disorders and high-pressure living is the "Specialist," the man who understands his one branch of tho business. Such in his line is Dr. Pierce. For the benefit of liia readers ho has written a
Common Sense Medical Advisor," ./liich is well worth reading by those wiio need such a work. With strict business honor, high prolessioiiaisuiii, reasonable fees, and a large corps or competent assistants, Dr. Pierce will doubtlsss-make his nan familiar as household words."
