Amusement** STABT THEATRE.

Tho Hew Stadt Theater ^as opened to the public last evening, with an ex cellent performance of the drama of "Marianne" a German version of "Madeline or tne Belle of Fourbur?." The Stadt Theater is the o!d time Therpian temple on Fifth street, known fiom time to name of Theater Comiqne, Adelphi, and Harmonia Hall.

The stage is in charge of Mr. VVm. Pelissier, an actor of ability and experience, who sssumes the leading rolas, in the dramas. Madame Pelissier is tho leaping lady of the establishment. The balance ef the company is composed of resident amateurs- The acting was good, throughout, and the German citizens present (atid the hall was crowded with them) seemed to enjoy the performance hugely.

It. is Interesting to a poison unacquainted with the German language to watch and listen to a performance of this kind. There are many speeches which you will understand from accompanying actions, just as well as though thfiy were spoken In your own tongue. Every German to whom ye gay GAZETTKER mentioned the matter last evening declared that the performanco was immense.

Yesterday tho Gay GAZETTEEER happened to be standing near tho v. indow of the ticket agent's office at the Union dtpot, and saw a big mud eater ask for a ticket to Orburn, (Auburn he meant.) Ho wanted to know the price of such a ticket, and was told. He "lowed" he'd take it, Mr. Girdner got tho ticket, stamped it and brought it to him, and was uot a little astonished to hear the fellow drawl out, after the whole operation was done, "I guess I'll take a 'round trip."

The Normal Mode J.

Numbers of delighted spectators have, during the day, commented on the accuracy with which the model of the State Normal school, placed on exhibition today at the Central Book Store, has been made. All of the rooms are faultlessly copied in detail. So exact have been the builders and so earnest their desire to faithful ly represent the natural, that they have left shavings in the actic, and allowed moths to collect there, and dust to reign undisturbed. Who ever heard of an attic that was not so? The building is mounted on a pedestal, at tho base of which is some printed matter relating to the schools. The GAZETTE ventures the assertion, that of all the curiosities taken to Philadephia from the schools, this model will attract tho most attention. Its cost has been §300.

The Republicans of Marshall township met on Wednesday at 1 o'c'ock. A. Fish Barilett was elected Chairman, and Will Wilkin Secretary. They got into quite melee before they adjourned in consequence of the Frost Harlan faction, by previous arrangement, trying to beat J. L. Ryan. Their prejudice against Mr. Ryan grows out of his interpreting the law governing the support of bastard children, to the detriment of Mr Frost, and in his, (Ryan's) using diligence in the collec iion of the swamp land money, that has b?en in the hands, and use of well known individuals for several years, amounting to about §8,000.

Additional Particulars. CARRYING DEVASTATION BEFORE IT. The grade being qnite steep at this point a now impetus was niveu the water, and in its course it lifted rails and ties bodily from tho road bed, and turned them topsy turvey lor more than a mile. It rushed alonjr, and just before reaching the stone arch bri ige at Curtis' pond, it bored a hole down iuto the road bed, and made a g-p about 80 feet long aud 40 feet deep. The water then fouud its way into the Curtis pond. The devastation at this point will be as great as any along ihe entire route. The two long aud deep t»aps will require much time aud_ great expense to repiir. About a mile of rails and ties are piled up in bvery conceivable shape, and the road bed under the north track is washed out in places three and four feet deep. The branch railroad track was

"lid it should be borne in mind tbat the WHOLE AMOUNT CHARGED in the duplicate must be paid on or beforo tbat «layj or a penalty of 10 per cent* will be added to all taxes remaining unpaid after tbat date. The Legislature at tbe last regular session changed the time for paying from the third Monday of March to the third Monday ol April and there can be no extension beyond that time. A great many people have gotten tbe idea tbst tho penalty is simply at the rate of 10 percent, per anunm, and tbat after it is once -idded tbe taxes need not be paid for a year. This is a serious mistake Tbe per cent, is a PENALTY ADDED for non payment, and tbe Treasurer is required by law to proceed to collect all delinquents immediate after the Clerk uas addsd the penalty and returned thj delinquent l^t to hiin which at fartherest will not be later than the 1st of June next, when the tax of each and every delinquent will be placed in the bauds of a npocial constable (or collector) for collection. It will be seen then, that instead of paying 10 percent, per annum, you really pay from 40 to to GO p.*r cent, and that it would ba much cheaper to borrow money at a 'ig per cent per annum, with which to pay your taxes than to let them run dol'it.quf-nt.
