"You cannot end the great toe, or the still greater ear, if he should h»ppen to be a e00313?'1" nist—of a man into the army^_ bu you can tax and supply the army with an equitable proportion ol any mans.hogs, corn, etc. 1130' press the \vb'olerihau if"yda Inipiess him at all.. If you don't need every bit of property in tbe whole land, but only a part, if you have a particle of justice about you, you will not take all of one mans and nothing of auothers, but? .must, by some jtisfc plan sei'k to ascertain each man's proportion of the burden, assets it, tax it, and get it by collection. In truth, the question we have answered cannot be asked without tbe wildest misconception of what a man i.°, aOd the nature of the material objects which supply his wants. There ib and can he no question about one being worshipful and, sacren above another. No possible comparison can exist between two such diverse, ,things. Both are worshipful and Wcred things. Life is dearer than property. Nobody doubts that. There is no use of raising a racket over that trite axiom It has nothing to do with the question. Both life and property are ''worshipful aud sacred." The latter is the prop &nd stay of the former, and only less sacred tlian it. It' is not a question of rich and poor. All have something which they can call their property, and which is "wor^iipful and sacred." A poor man's hog, or his bag of eon is cs '•worship'ul and sacred" a|thifigtohi m, more so in fact, than the rich man's drove, or well tiiled crib. It is not as dear as his life, hut it is,frequently dearer to him, and justly so, than another person'** life, as anybody can practically and very easily demonstrate, by prowling around,.at nigh: time, say, and attemptifiirl'o^impress either bogs or corn. The argument would proceed from the mouth of a shot gun.
Government neeJs men in time of war, If-*wants veTsohttlJ*4"'efrvices. It wants the whole man and not a piece of him. Out, therefore, cf all its citiK?ns, it makes, the levy. By reason of humanity it exempts infancy, and old age, women, iiud the broken in health. Out of the residue it fills its ranks,. by. lot,, .the, fairest way known of men.
Government needs supplies, TheEx press wants them impressed. .Such tilings'as''hogs, corn, &c., being not "worshipful or sacred above men," according to its-creed, aud very different tilings according to ours, perhaps it would draw lotsamongmen to see which cues should give up all of their "un worshipful and not sacred hots, corn eic ," £to sustain the Gov* ernment, to the exclusion of the rest. Perhaps it would exempt from this "impress" men wealthy, but too fee ble of body to serve as soldier?. Perhaps it would exclude womeu possessed of an abundance of "unwor» shiuful and not sacred above men, hogs, corn etc." ex mpted from personal services by a wise ai holy regard for sex. Perhaps it wr uld exempt rich youth and weal1 by ,old aue, from this impress of "unworshipful aud not sacred above men corn, hogs, etc," who were rHeaped from personal'service in the field, because of the feebleuess of childhood or decrepitude of age.
These are all ways of impressing

men, bogs, corn, etc.," and ways.,too, exactly patterned after the fashion in which "worshipful and sacred" men are impressed. Moreover "worshipful aud sacred meu" are compelled to give up their en'ire bodies. Can "tin worshipful and not sacred, above meu, corn, hogs. &s." do le=s? Tha saintl.v.of Proudhon, and his disciple, thfe -'Express, forbid.
But,.though this is treating "unworshipful, and not s.cred ab ve men, corn, hops, &9-"
eXoCi'y
as
ireii are treated, this is not the plan of the Express It would abolish the exis ing revenue system entirely. Though carefully piauned by Hamilton. &nd elabortfted by a long line of llusttious successors though embodying' the wisdom and. experience of aires, and not to be ^ast side in the time of peace—for the Expiess has not said that it should be cast as de then—this extensive system for imposing the burdens of the Guvernmeti', upon the people justly, must at the -first rude bust of war be cast en irely aside as rubbish In its stead we are to hnve substituted—we quote verbatim from ihe Express^—"the sume iorce ©f Provost-Marihalis and Reeruiti:.g officers that keep the anks filed, can keep the sol.liers j-upplied And el re on -Oit r.v officers are to wander about at their own sweet _will, and impress suppiies. They must not assess properly, or make any attempt to proppr.tiolvthe'burdens tp the backs df those who are to. bear them. That would be to imitate the present astern, ami our Terre Haute disciple of Proudhon, i-ays "Government should have impressedUH'8i)ppiies, as it im* pressed-its men," and it.scatters t.he crushed fragments of-' our revenue system.io the four corners..of the ear h, with the twice repeated inter rogatory, "are corn, and hogs, and clothing, ami dollars, so much more wor.-hipful and sacred, above men, that one may be impressed, and the other not?"
We have but one question to ask. in conclusion, aud we ask it of the Terre Haute Journal, and the EvansvUle Courier. The former said of the original article of the Express that it was the best thing ever penned for that paper, and the latter quoted it .entire, paying'rtiat it clearly expressed what it had been for years tryiug to say, and met with its hearty approval. We ask thosepapew now, if they have followed the elucidation of it, as drawn out in the Express by the GAZKTTK, and if they still endorse me doctri.ne? When, this note of woe shall mature on a day of~vlo lence, as it did once before, as the Journal hiasjevery reason to recollect in its own case, will they stand steady to their endorsement and take the responsibility of endorsers. Let us hear from you Messieurs Coin mi: nis'.s.

Charge of Tenne. As-kul by
tfaft Defendaut a fier all t5«e l*r^litn» jnariea Woi Arranged for Trmi This Week. As-Mr. Mclntira has jajtmbar-s of friends in Terre Haute, 'the fallowing from the Indianapolis Journal, of yesterday morning, will not be uninteresting to them:
Iu the libel suit of Thomas Maclntire against the' Sentinel Coinpany atid John E Fawkner the issues were made up iu the'Marion. Circuit Court, when, at the last term, J. E. Fawkner made affidavit for a change of venue, whereupon Judge Howland sent the cause for trial to Hamil on County. In response to notice, tbe parties, some ten days since, met at Noblesville and selected a struck jury, and, by agreement, the ca?e was eet down fot trial to-day. We learn that the Santinel" Company •ha?-now filed their affidavit for a change of venue from Hamilton county, and that the que tiou is to be argued to-day before Judge Henry Cravens, of the Hamilton Circuit Court.
Aside from the agreement of the parties to waive all dilatory motions and enter in the triar of the case, the question presented by the motion for another change is a new and novel one, upon which the jurists seem to divided. .According to the theory of the defense, if there is one plaintiff and twenty defendants, the plaintiff may hive only one chaoge of venue, wheteas the defendants may claim twent\ changcs, one to each defendant. On the other hand, the theory of the piainliff is that only one clianga may be taken by either party (plaintiff or defendant) to the slit.
If the motion, cf the Sentitiel Company is granted, the trial of the cause will be postponed for the pres. ent. If overruled, the hearing of the case will proceed this week at Nobhsville. Both parties: are represented by able couusel, aud the case vviil attract very general interest.
