Last Saturday night about 9:30 P. M., a tire broke out in Daugherty's livery, feed and sale stable, on East Main street. Some who bad been upon the street about 15 minutes before, and had passed the building, little knew what was to be. It was no time until the entire buikling was in flames. There was about twelve horses in th9 building, nine eacaping, tho rest suffering death. Several vehicles were saved. The billiard parlor in the same building, saved a part of its goods. Our youuK friend, J. W. Morrisou, Jr., who has but lately started in tho grocery business, had the misfortune to lose about one-half of his stock. The flames thon spread across the alley, badly burning tho Phoenix, saloon, of P. Inglesby, but bis stock was mostly saved. The flames then spread to the ware-house ol Robert Stewart's grocery, mostly cousnmiug it. Mr. H. C. Wallace, whoea fruit ond vegetable store was between the two last named buildings, gathered up his goods and moved them to a safe place, although his store room was uninjured: He will probably move in again. There was fear at once, as the wind was blowing westward, that the frame building on tliejcorner of Maiu and Franklin streets would go. The hose companies worked gallantly all through the conflagration, and saved the aforesaid frame building. Had it not been for the water works, and the gallant yay In which the firemen did their duty, the heart of the city would have' stood a good chance to'have been consumod. It is not known how the fire originated but of an incendiary, a3 suspicious characters were seen previous to the fire. The amount of damages wo have not yet learned. It is undoubtedly the iargest firo ever iu Brazil.

Use Huge,

drassic, gripping, sickening pills, constructed of crude, course, and bulky ingrediments, are fast beinf? superseded by Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Purgative Pellets, or Sugar-coated, Concentrated Root and Herbal Juice. Anti-Bilious Granules—the "Little Giant" Cathartic or Muitnm in Parvo Physic. Modern Chomical Science enables Doctor Pierce to extract from the juices ol the most valuable roots aud herbs t.heir active medicinal principle, which, when workod into little Pellets or Granules, scarcely larger than mustard seed, renders each little Pellet as active as a largo pill, while they are much more palatable and pleasant in effect.

Dr. Ira A. Thayer, of Baconsburg, Ohio, writes: ''I regard your Pellet* as the best remedy for the conditions for which j'ou prescribe them of anything I have ever used, so mild and certain iu effect, and leaving the bowels in an excellent condition. It seems to mo they must take the place of all other cathartic pills and medicines."

Lyon fc Macomber, druggists, Vermillion, D. T., say: "We think they are going to sell like hot cakes as soon as people get acquainted with them aud will spoil the pill trade, as those that have used them like them much bet.er than large pills."

ST. CLUR BROTHERS

Now run the saloon and restaurant on Tippecanoe street, opposite the I. & St. L. passenger depot. In addition to excellent billiard tables, and as trood a restaurant as can be found in the State, tne.v keep puie wines and liquors of every variety.

Exchange: The advantages of an evening paper for advertising purposes are apparent on reflection. In tho morning the day's work is before the husband and housewife the paper is taken up and a hasty glance given to the telegrams and \ocal news, and it is thrown aside for the cares of the day. There is no time to read further, and before evening the paper is transformed into a dress pattern or into a firelighter. The evening paper comes in at the time when the labors of the day are completed, and the hours between tea and bedtime are given to reading. The telegrams, local news and miscellany are all read, and still there are hours to spare, aud the advertisements are read and re-read, and tSe bargains offered discussed in the faiLily circle, and conclusions reached as to where to make purchases
