A REVIVAL is in progress at Moat Hose"M: E. church.
T®sG?and Pacific Hotel, of Chicago, ®nly pays #2.55 a thousand for thegas it Kaes.
EPIZOOTIC is a disease which affects men as well as beasts. Every other mail you meet has got it.
THE course of lectures on English Literature begin next Monday night at the Baptist Church. Without a doubt the churcli will be crowded.
Ina few days now Messrs. Rippetoe A Wyatt will open their new branch store on Fourth street. They will maka a strong team, and no mistake.
AND still the tbisf who stole the GAZETTE'S umbrella marked inside, "stolen from I?. A. Skeela," has not been caught. Is there then no balm in Gilead?
GBEAT interest is being aroused by ihe revival meetings now in progress at the A. M. E. Churc-b. A large number o' accessions to the church have alreadv been made.
THIS GAZETTE, at 15 cents per week, is the cheapest paper, variety and amount of news considered, published in the State of Indiana. I: has no rival. Subscribe for it.
THE Terre Haute House management have made arrangements to get a jnachino for making gas to supply the house. Three hundred dollars a month was too steep for them.
THE employees of the hubb and spoke factory last evening were compelled to take the law in their own hands in a very disagreeable matter and force certain city officials to do their duty.
Now is the time to .subscribe for the GAZETTK. It only eost.s 15 cents per week, delivered by carrier, at your house or office. It is the cheapest paper published in Terre Hfante, and in quantity nui finality of raiding matter, is iiui i'.'Mieii.
IF the dispatches sent bot*ie by the junketing editors are any criterion, Kell'.y must have converted them to bis more greenbacks theory. A day
New York seems to have made them as desperately short ai Matt Carpenter ever wa?, and. yet they do say that money is plenty in the East.
THERE is no foundation whatever for the rumor that tne St. Agnes Sabbath school is to be united with the Mont Rose school. Both schools will be run by the Mission folks. Apart from a tern, pory injury by sickness in the locality, the school is in a very prosperous condition. It will meet next Sabbath at 2K P- M„ as usual.
TWELVE carriers deliver the GAZETTE to all parts of the city within an hourafer its publication. It thus gives the news of the day fresh and crisp for perusal by the fireside during the long hours of the winter evenings when there is leisure.' Your name and address can be given to any of them and .the paper will be promptly delivered.
READ the opening chapters of the" Spider's Webb, six columns of which a*e published in to-day's GAZETTE. It is a ttuilling story o. the French commuuo, tho scene being laid in Paris, daring the Fiasco Prussian war. It is historical and of absorbing interest. It will be continued in the Saturday's issue of the GAZETTE, and in the Weekly—issued on Thursday—until ocmpleted. .........
MIDNIGHT MURDERERS,
AJf ATTEMPT TO KILL PH. ORR Oi? PAXTOJf IN THE DOOR OF HIS RESIDENCE.
Arrest of Suspected Parties.
A midnight outrage, which s'macks very much of Southern Ku Klux, occurred on Thursday night last at Paxton, a small village south ®f Sullivan, on the E. fc C. Railroad.
Dr. Orr, a highly-esteemed phvsian of that place, was awakened from a sound sleep by calls from the street in front of his house. He being used to these night visits, immediately arose and went to the door. He had no sooner made his appearance than he was greeted by a charge from a shot gun. The charge consisted of numerous heavy slugs, about three times the size of a buck-shot. The perpetrators of the deed evidently expected tho doctor to stop oft' the door sill on the steps, which would have brought his body about twelve inches lower. It was so dark that nothing could be distinguished, and it is prob ably to this fact that Dr. Orr owes his life. Tho would be murderers (for there must have been more than one) were compelled to shoot at random. The slugs entered the lower limbs of the Dr., and inflicted such injuries as to necessitate the amputation of at least one leg, and will probably result death. Two men, named Sanders, were arrested yesterday on suspicion of being the guilty partus. One of them them is a druggist and does business in Paxton. The other is a doctor without patients, who resides iu Sullivan. The latter married a stepdaughter of Dr. Orr. What evidence there is against the parties is not yet known, but it is probable that the officers have some good reason for their action.
Dr. Orr is one of the moat highly esteemed men in the region where he resides, and there is deep feeling against the perpetraotrs of this horrible crime.
Polics Pickings. EARNEY VS. MAUSLKY.
Two men named Mausley and Earney, tho latter a barber near the I. & St. L. depot, got into a difficulty in which Mausley was was badly pounded up The cause of the affair is a disputed poiut between the two parties one says it was one thing, the other says no, but the pubiic are not interested in the matter no one will care whether it was the, one thing or the other thing.
DOWN STAIRS.
A difficulty occured at the Earley House on West Main street last evening, in which one man was knocked down a flight of stairs.
RESITTING AN OFFICER.
Officer John Downey, in attempting to arrest a ruffian last evening, receiv a severe blow in the face.
SOME FUN.
Ed Hathaway, a msn employed at the rolling mills, got full of crooked whisky and came up town to have some fun, yesterday.
The first object which attracted, his altentioia as likely to afford himamusoment, was the candy stand opposite the Terre Haute House. He attacked the proprietor of the establishment, ai began to throw the confectionary and nioknax around in an alarming manner.
He was enjoying himself hugely, when Ed Yandever appeared on the scene, and took the man of Mercurial spiiits by the collar, and marched him off to the station house. On the way thither, Hathaway boasted that he had a cousin who could lick all the police in Terre Hauto, and threatened to turn him loose on Ed.
(BUSHED TO DEATH.
Fall* Under is Fatull: la-
liff jjry Wollowslinrjs Iron Wh«'ls itnii jurcd.
Henry Wolfensberg who had Veen exploring the rolling mills, attempted, last evening, to jump on board a passing freight car, drawn by the E. & C. switch engine, but not being accustomed to such exercisp, lie missed his footing and fell under the dreadful iron wheel*. The left leg was crushed above the knee, the right leg below the knee and the left hand was crushed.
Those in charge of the train stopped at onco and picked up the wounded young man and placed him in tho engine. At Main street he was placed in the delivery wagon of Joseph Strong and conveyed to his home on Center street between the railroads. Drs. Read, Roberts and Preston were called in and made an examination of the injured man, but little could be done for him, he was insensible when picked tip and remained so until the end. He died last night at 10 o'clock. Deceased was a young man of nineteen, and had been but a short time in the city. He was a brother of James Wolfeusperg, who resides 03 Center street.
A Double Wooding.
H. Clark, the popular Fourth street boot and shoe store man, celebrated last uignt, tbe 25th anniversary of his wedding.
An additional zest was given to the celebration by the marriage of his daughter, Miss M. L. Clark, to Mr. Geo. Hewitt.

The wedding ceremony was performed at the house, by Rev. C. R. Henderson, of the Baptist church- A number of friends were invited to the house, and a pleasant time enjoyed'by all.
