This collection ahould comprise sam pies of every variety of grain and seeds grown in the county, in quantity not less than two gallons each, except garden seeds, which may be in smaller quantities. All to be put in cloth sacks A bundlo of good Indian corn on the stalks, and a good sample of not less than two ears of corn from each township. One sheaf of each kind of small grain, and one of each kind of grass and fodder. AU.tbe samples should be accompanied by a label in plain writing, giving grower's name and name ot' tti» arti« ly», i-bai-Aoier of land, 6., timber oi'iii jirid, cl*y, clay loam, sandy or sandy loam, numbar of acrca cultivated and yield per acre, mode of cultivation, etc.

Specimens of wood, showing every variety of growth in each country. Samples should be about six inches long, and cut entirely across the log» to show its greatest diameter. These should be labelled with the common name.of wood, and. accompanied with specimens of the fruit or seed, such as hickory nuts, walnuts, acorns, etc,

MINERALS..

Specimens of coal should be collected from every mine in the country. One from each of the most valuable seams should be largo enough to show the entire thickness of tho bed other specimens may be from six to twelve inch? es thick, and from four to eight specimens of tbe latter size from each seam.

Large specimens of iron ore from each locality. One Btone should be had from each quarry in the State, of as large dimensions as the bedding will admit of four to eight smaller samples 6x12 inches, dressed, so as to show its character for firrish and ornamen tion.

Flagging stone should be in flags of as large an area as can be mined or Bhipped on the cars.

Samples of porcelain clay, fire clay, potters' clay, and the ware made from them, stone for making lime, and samples of the. lime hydraulic Btone and the cement, ochre-earths, marbles, brick clay, glass sand, salt, petroleum, peat and peat cake, charcoal, and other products of the State that may be of general interest.

Lables should bo plainly written with a lead pencil,giving locality,thickness of the bed or seam, owner's name and any other remarks that may be useful to know.- Each specimen, with its lable, should be carefully wrapped in paper or straw and tightly packed in a box or barrel, to prevent its being rubbed and injured by the rongh car. riage to which it may be subjected.. ^,

Manufacturers are urged to send specimens of dressed woods used in the construction of their special work, such as wagon hubs,spokes and felloes, ax helves, hammer handles, plow handles, hoe handles, etc.
