C05H2EGATIONALISH,

CrjsTiiratlon of Piyciititi. CfcErcIi. Twelve years ago Bev, Lyman Abbott established ths mission enterprise, waieh, after several changes of'position, was finally located in the East en J, A. naat artdJcommouiouG Jbuilding, known S3 Plymouth Chapel, .was built witb foods contributed principally by th9 Congrogalionalista, and a loan of §I,CC0. During the present year Rev. I. M. Wilcox has labored in this field with such favorable results that it has become necessary to formally organize a church. Tha development of this church ami the cancelling of the entire debt, amounting, with interest, to nearly £1,500, aro in a gjoat measure attributable to tho zeal and energy of Rev. E. F. Howe. Yesterday tho council, called in accordance to the usage of the Congregational polity to assist in the orgauizition of the new church, met at Plymouth Chapel.

THE COUNCIL

was composed of Revs. O. S. Dsan, N. A. Hyde, Whited and Mr. Claflin, of Indianapolis, Rev. Mr. Davies and Mrs. Davies, of Brazi: Rev. J. T. Sonle and Mr. Win. Goodman, of Vigo Rev. J.T.Graves, of Marshall Rev. J. E. Roy, of Chicago Rev. E. F. Howe and C. C. Oakey, oi the Congregational Church of Terre Haute.

The Council, Rev. X.A. Hyde act ing as moderator, examined the list of members of the new church—twenty one in number—the proposed creed and constitution, and pronounced them satisfactory. The caddidate for ordi nation was then "put through bis lacings." His religious belief, record, orthodoxy aud ability were thoroughly sifted, "weighed in the balance and not found wanting."

The wily, experienced clergymen seemed to spread various nets of doctrinal theology in tho way of the neophyte with a sly pleasure in watching him extricate himself, The result was, Mr. Wilcox was pronounced the right man for the place. The council appointed the recognition and ordiuatiou services lor the evening and adjourned*

OI5DTXATIOX.

A large congregation assembled in Plymouth Church at 7 o'clock* Reading of the Scripture by Rev. Mr. Davies was followed by tho ordaining prayer by Rev. J. T. Graves. Rev, O. S. Daan delivered tho ordination sermon, an effort of great interest and ability, exalting the dignity of the pastor's work, and presenting Christ to tho people in His most winning and touching attributes.

The receiring of the candidates for membership followed. Rev. X. A« Hyde administered the rite of baptism and gave the right hand of fellowship this service was of marked solemnity and interest.

The address with the right hand of fellowship to the pastor, Mr. Wilcox, was given by Rev. N. A. Hyde.

Tlio charge to the pastor was delivered by Rev. J. E. Ray. Rev. E. F. Howe closed with the charge to the church, in which he impressed upon the members their dotv to encourage and support their pastor by sympathy, commendation and prompt pay incut of salary to livo up to to -their principles as a Congregational Churoh, bat to avoid sectarlanjamV Finally, he told them that the en« tire debt resting o"n tho building was provided for, and charged them to avoid debt in tho future, to buy nothing until means of payment were first provided.

A collection taken np during the evening was'an evidence that Plymouth church agreed with Mr. Howe.

The services closed with the benediction by the'newly ordain9d and installed" pastor, Rev. Mr. Wilcox, and Plymouth Church remains fnlly established in the sisterhood of chnrch6B, sp'ttig from the ancif-nt Mother Church, planted by the Puritans two and a half ceuturies ago.

PAUKEH fe Co., are shipping one 43 horse power portable engine to Illinois, to be used in a saw mill.. It is the largest portable engine ever put up in this vicinity, resembling in size a locomotive more than anything else. They are also shipping a twenty-five bors3 power portable, to bo used in tho olevating apparatus in au Illinois granery.

AMUSEMENTS.

Ere ii Frou at the Opera llouse. The Hall Combination appeared in Frou Frou at the Opera House last evening to a very slim audionco.

It is safe to say that the drama lias rarely been so well represented. Miss Gillman embodies the ideal of the thongbtless, giddy Frou Frou. She is a charming actress and will be pleasantly remembered by the theater goers of Terre Haute. From the very large list of successful modern society plays the management might have made a much better selection than this. The play is full of interest and the characters are strongly drawn, bat the moral of the story is bad. There is nothing in the play which can teach a good, wholesome lesson.

Mr. Louis James as De Sartorys sustained the excellent reputation which he enjoys. Mr. James is a good aotor bnt he has one serious fault. He is altogether too fidgety. He makes many unnecessary gestures, which mar his acting to a groat extent.

The other ladies and gentlemen of the cast sustained their parts in an exceptional manner.

A BRIEF announcement in 'the GAZETTE of yesterday evening that a whitewasher could find a job in this Vicinity, brought at daylight this morning a young army of applicants. It takes the GAZETTE to fetch frescoers every time. In fact a -notice of any want under the sun published in the GAZETTE always meets with a response.

SOUTH FIRST street has been improved in many particulars. The gutter in front of the Eagle Iron Works, has been bridged to admit of easier access.
