THE Home Circle Club will give its next regular reception at the Terre liaute House, to-morrow evening, in the parlors of the Terre Haute House.

LAST Saturday morning, Andrew Biker, deputy constable, had flowing chin whiskers. They are not now quite so flowing. In fact they look as if they were "on the ragged edge*" The reason is apparent. He ^thought he could whip Jack Rupp. Jack, however, got his clutches on that beard. Several bystanders succeeded in parting them some pulling Baker one way others serving Rupp the same. Rupp still clung to the whiskers, and when he did let loose, there were only a few straggling hairs left.

Runaway.

A diminutive colored boy was driv« ing a vicious horse to a buckboard this morning. \V hen he stsrtpd from the postoflice, in front of which he had made a halt. Tho wheels of the buckbo ird became entangled in those ot another bu^gy. Thia entanglement frightened his horse and he started in a run towards Main street, nearly in in extricating the it wheels. Only the prompt attention of byBtandera prevented the horse attached to the buggy from running away. In turning the corner of Sixth onto Main, the buckboard was overturned, spill? iug out the boy upon the street, but not hurting-him .at all." -The hofse then dragged the overturned buckboard to the sidewalk in front, of

Cook's hardware store, and was cap tured there without any further damage.

Sewing Machine Statistics. The first sewing machine patent appears in English patents in 4|e year 1755,120 years ago, and 91 years before the machine so-called tho "Original" was patented.' After the year 1755, patents were issued in the following order:

Barthley Themounier, France, 1830. Walter Hunt, New York, 1834 first lock stitch.

In looking over the list of sewing machines in use to-day we find-but few of the earlier patents.
