THE St. Agnes Mission Sunday School, as all our readers know, is a protege of thB~ GAZETTE, and we are glad, to say that it Is succeeding well. The attendance is large, and every one from Mr. Marshall, the efficient Superintendent, down to ^Brother Murray's three-year-old boy, is imbued with the true working spirit, and the result is a wide awake, progressive, and interesting Sunday school, that is an honor to the city, and an especial benefit to the southend It is an enterprise .that should not be allowed to weaken for want of funds, but what with considerable debt on organ and library, and the expense necessary to a rattling good
Chri^tmas.festi^ral for tho little folk, a little helpfrim.yourabundanco is very much needed jtist now.
Mr. B. F. Royse, a member of the infant class, is Chairman of the Christmas Finance Committee, and to him you are invitedi to hanc^ in your spare change. Don't fail to give him something if only a quarter, and our woid for it, you will receive a credit that will make a good showing on your final balance sheot.
A stereoptican exhibition is to be given at the hall on Thursday evening next, and you are all expected there. Anyhow, if you should be bounced to buy a tioket, take onr it only costs you a dime and you needn't go i£ you don't want to. The money so raisedis to be applied in payment for the organ, and they only-want to sell 700 tickets at ten cents apiece to raise the necseventy dollars... Come and

A DISAPPOINTMENT.
James P. Voorhees' Appearance in Indianapdlis Postponed Uutil Jan nary 3.
Mr. Voorhdea met with a disappointment in Indianapolis which is very vexatious to him. When he arrived in that city yesterday, morning and reported at tbe Grand Opera House for rehearsal, ho was met with the crushing announcement that the company engaged to support him was in a siato of insurrection and that it would be impossible to produce Haml^twitb sucb support. TLie leading man of the company was "on a spree," and of course would be unable to appear. Severaj other members of the company were dissatisfied with the parts for which they were cast, and refused to accept thom. Consequently the production of Hamlet was necessarily abandoned. Mr. Voorhets will appear at tho Grand Opera House Ja^. 3d, supported by the Olympic stock company from St.Louis. The Sentinel of this morning has the following:
HAMLET POSTPONED.
Tho public will regret to learn that the performancd of Uamlet, which was billed for to-night at the Grand Opera House, has been unavoidably postponed till January 3. Mr. Jhmes P. Voorhees was on hand yesterday preparing for his metropolitan debut, and hoping to make a fine impression on the citizens of the city. The plain facts about the matter are that when the cast was made up finally the management was afraid of the numerical strength of the company which had been engaged to support him, and it was thought best, considering how important a strong repre sentation would be, to postpone the rendition for the present. The Dane feels mellatchsly over the disappoint meot, but can take comfort from the assurance that tbe short delay will no doubt be for his interest in tbe end.
STELL PROGRESSING.
Koi aBIt of PlaylBfc in Ilia Attendance at the y. HI. O. A. Meetings. It seems as though Jupiter Pluvius was not in favor of the Y. M. C. A. re vival meetings. At least his continual efforts at moisture, on each of the evenings devoted to their work, would seem to indicate such a thing. It has not, however, any effect on tho audiences which nightly crowd to their hall. Last night Dr. Munhall explained his remarks made on Friday evening, which had been offensive to some. The Doctor, it will be reremembered, requested all who would not work for tho movement to leave the hall, as their room was more desirable than their presence, owing to the large crowd. This was perfectly right and proper. The room was so crowded that the evening meeting would have been a failure had .not some space for talking been secured. He stated last evohing that these meetings wero not public. All unconverted persons who earnestly desired conversion, they desired to remain, as well as all members of the churches who would work. No others wero rcquirod.

Winter term of school opened Wednesday morning with a largo attendance.
G. A. Miller's fractured ankle is convalescent. S. PorJce, an old student of the U. C. College has returned to graduate.
Tho now dry goods store Hackette Bros., Hutsonvillo, Ills was burned down, Tuesday night. The work was doubtless th of an incendiary.
It is rumored that Uou. E. Calahau, of Robinson, Ills., has been arrested for purloining soldier's money.
There was a little fuss in Merom, oa Thursday evening. The Deputy Marshal, attempting to arrest two or three intoxicated persons for disbehavior.was boldly resisted by one bully, George Newman. In the little "knock-down" which followed, tho Deputy came out victorious.
