SELDEN IRAVIN Combination one night moro in Damow and Pythias, on the test of friendship.

WHAT manner of friendship is this that a man will die for his friend? Such was the iriendship shown by Pythias for Damon.

IN the play of Damon and Pythias, the characters of olden times in the days of Knighthood, the principles ol friendship in its true character will be shown.

GEN. SIMON HIRSCH, of the Clay County Ztitung was in tho city this morning. He is still the same hearty, affable and genial gentleman as when he lived here.

ARRANGEMENTS have been made with tho roads running into the city for special rates for all who come to see tho Irwin Combination in Damon and Pythias, on the night of Dec. 9.

SELDSN IRWIN Combination, beryqueat of the gallant Knights of Pythias, will play Damon and Pythias at the Opera House next Thursday. It will be a big thing.

CONCERT AT THE OPERA HOUSE.

By a*io atreii«leI«solJii Qain'eKc Club aucl 5Si«s Fannie Jf. Kellogg".

jVa appreciative audience assembled at'the Opera House last evening to hear tho'concert giren by 'hy Alendels' son Quintette Club, assis^l by Miss Fannie J. Kellogg. The reputation of this famous organization is so tirmly established, and has been so fairly earned, that any thing in the way of criticism would be impossible, and commendation is a work of supererogation. It is only necessary therefore, to say that the prograrnmo was an excellent one, embracing selections from the best known and most popular of the world's favorite compositors, and admirably adapted to display the merit's of the club, both individual and collective. The lluto sr.lo, "La Favorite de Vinnc," by Edward Heindl, was exquisitly rendered, and followed by an encore.

Since the club was hero l^st it has added a new member, in the person of Mr. Allen. His merit as a violinist was shown in the "Grand duo concertante" for violins, with Wm. Shultz. This piece was cncorod and richly deeorved it.

Miss Kellogg was ou the programme for three songs. .Each appearaneo was an ovation, and each song a treat. In every case she was rapturously applauded, and responded wi'.hasong. Of these additional pieces "I drestirrt I dwelt in Marble Halls," end "Home Sweet Home" were especially well rondered, and pleasing to the audience, though tlio gem of the evening was the "Echo Song" in the first part of the programme. Since here last, Miss Kellogg's voice has gained in power, and lost none of its wonderfull flexibi'ity, and sweetness. Another concert will bo given this evening, and a sacred concert on Sunday evening, both at the Opera House. Of the concert this evening, tho following is the programme.

Our country readers got, a glimpse last Saturday of the extent of the Y. M. C. A. meetings now being held at Terre Haute, under the leadership of D.-, Muuhall and Rev. Walts. Last night another crowded house possibly fuller than any that had preceded it, greeted the revivalists.

Tho addresses made were earn st exhortations to coma to the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. Walts related tho anecrelative to Lady Erskine. While present at a meeting of a religious character, some person arose and said: "I havo a soul to sell wh bids? Satan bids. HheolFers wealth and ease and tho happimss which these things bring. I have another bidder, the Lord Jesus Chaist. He offers joy, and peace and contentment which the world cannot give. Who shall have the soul?" Lady Erskine, it is said, touched by this appeal,"knelt and offered herself to Christ as being the highest bidder.

Dr. Munhall made a very short address, in fact, the addresses were all short. He said that

TEE DEVIL IS A LIAR.

He offers men things which he does not possess. lie showed the supremacy of his impudence and falsehood when ho took Jesus Christ on the top of a high mountain and offered to give Him all the outstretching lields if He would but fall down and worship him. The devil didn'town those fields. They were not his to give. Christ was the cattle on a thousnnd hills and the very hills themselves. His promises are sure. He offers more and he can give more. A very much larger number remained at the inquiring meeting than on any previous evening. Many persons have selected a subject or two and try again last evening continuing the threa dof argument or intercourse in most instances it was not argument, however, it was exortation. Fully thirty additional persons arose last night when the call was made for those who wished to be Christians.

JKED MEN'S BALL.

List of Pdzfis to be Voted For. The ball which is now announced by the Red Men, to take place on Christmas eve, at the new and elegant hall over the Market House, is tho all-ab-sorbing topic of conversaton. Two costly prizes are offered to be voted for. One, a Gold Headed Cane to bo in future property of the most popular member ot the City Council, as determined by ballot. The other, a superb Berry Stand, will be voted to tho most popular lady. The prizes are now on exhibition at the Central Book Store.

To he Public!

I take this method of inlorming my friends, former patrons and others, that I have again embarked in the wholesale and retail Cigm and Tobaccp trade, and will hereafter conduct the same, at Mr. T. W. Howard's old stand, on South Sixth street, opposite the Postoffice. Mr. Howard, who is well and favorably known to the community, has been retained in- nay employ, and will be found ready at all times to attend to the wants of my customers. In establishing this busiss, I do so with the full determination, to g?t a lion's share of the retail trade. I have facilities, possessed by no' other man in Terre Haute, for manufacturing cigars, and will sell all of my celebrated brands at retail for wholesale prices, and at wholesale for manufacturer's prices. These prices have been fixed upon the calculation that I will be paid for all the goods I sail, and will therefore sell for cash only.

You will* by patronizing'mo, not only save money for yourself, but at the same time encourage home industry, and keep the money at home which would otherwise be sent abroad. I am determined to out-strip all competitors, and sell abet ter cigar at less price than any one Call and exarhlne.

Respectfully,

.*- N. KATZENBACH.
