MEROM, IND., NOV. 27.
Several accidents have happend lately. One day last week, a teamster, by the name ol Hatfield, while iu the act of ohastizing his horse, put his shoulder out of place. Mr. George A. Miller, of Brid»ieton, SOB of Hon. John A. Miller, got his ankle dislocated and leg broken, Saturday evening, which happened as follows: After the adjournment of the Literary Society, he visited a fellow stadent's room to have a social chat. Being prevailed upon by Mr. Holmes, the student he was visiting, to stay all nigbt he concluded to step out on the verandah and take a breath ol fresh air. But, alas, instead of stepping out of the hall-door on the verandah, he stepped, or rather fell to the steps below—a distance of perhaps fifteen feet. Mr. Holmes helped him up stairs, and after laying him on the bed, and pulling off his boot, startfor Dr. Harper. George says that while taking the fatal steps, he thought it was long way down to that veranda, and secoud, that there was no veranda there. Mrs. Griffith fell down and broke her arm Sunday morning.
The entertainment given by tho Franklin Society Monday evening was pronounced very good. F. W Gregory, of Indianapolis, was the edi tor of the "Whetson," and L. Moagan of Prairie Creek, and A. A. Holmes, of Hutsonville, 111., were the orators. Mr. G. A. Miller was also, to deliver an oration, but was preveHted by the acci dent related above, a

NEW YORK HERALD BUREAU,") 61 AVENUE DE L'OPERA, PARIS, NOV. 27 1875. Rossi will never be quiet, and so be honors himself when he honors us with Signora Gleck as Lady Macbeth. The piece will be brought" forward next week.

OFFENBACH
will at least be talked about, and he will constantly get himself Into hot water. This time he has much reason for doing it, and has brought a suit to law to compel Viseutini to produce at the "Gacete," a new version of "La Belle Helene."
POLITICS IN BUSKINS.
Sohlke danced for Americans in the "Black Croko." When she danced there, few would have thought whether the danseus was of any particular nationality. She was under engage ment in the Alcazar, but it happens that she is a Prussian. They, being flowers of France, will not assist one whose limbs began to kick under the Prussian flag. This is patriotism, and she could not dance alone.
A MONSTER CIRCUS.
From Rossi, to Sohlke, is one step, and one other step touches the circus. Myers' combination is nearly completed. So strong has been the eflort to produce this gigantic affair, that the contractor has engaged to pay a penalty of $1,800 for every day after the 11th of December, on which the grand pageant shall remain uncompleted.
One can have no adequate idea of how much sensation is connected with the expectations of the Myers Circus, unless it may be known that- its mere area covers a ground surface of 12,000 square feet. The cost of the works alone has been $300,000. sixteen thousand dollars a year is the rental price.
THE TROUPE
is immense enough for a crusade. It is really an army. No doubt when so much penalty is incurred for failure tha contractor will be ready for the opening on the 11th of December. Among the attractions will be nine elephants. and it was a cafe wit who said that if the Prince of Wales had come to Paris instead of going to India he might have mounted nino elephants that the Marquis of Hastings could not find time to ride. The re-
artee was that the elephants arojtoo for the wi PATTI "WILL SING.
Adelia Pattl is announced to sing at Convent Garden as the. heroine in the opera of "Polyeucte."
NILSSON RETAINED IN EUROPE. You will be disappointed to know that Europe retains Nilsson. and that America is not to hear her voice very soon. At least you shall not have ber for your next season for, though I leara that every induceaient has been made to her, she has decided to remain on that side of the ocean until after next season.
MINNIE HAUCK
has almost decided to sing in Frenoh opera comique, at Brussels, in April of the coming year.
MARIE BRAMBILIIA,
the great contralto, has made us mourn for her death. She was sixty-eight. THE NEW TANNHAUSER. with all the additions and alterations and restorations was at length produced at Vienna last Monday night. Wagner, that great drum major of the music ot the foture. superintended the grand sensation. We know what the result was in Paris the first act was a failure, and Wagner, with all his wierd genius could not, or at least did not, set it right on last Monday night, as we hear from Vienna.
MAGIC.
But that Vienna should not' be outdone by the circus of Paris, the Viennese, tn default of Wagner, filled the house to see the elder Hermann, the great prestidigstateur. Indeed, the audiences which welcomed his sleight-of-hand wero something enormous. And every one who has seen him will say that he is the Prime Minister of bewilderment. He is truly a great, surprising magician.
DRESS CRUSADE,
Sulsen, the Int9ndent of Court, has issued a circular to the theaters in Berlin, directed to the female artists, and forbidding them any longer to indulge in extravagances of dress. The German critics have always abused Paris taste for appealing to dress and fashion instead of to pure art-, and now the pressure has been so great that the German critics have induced the Berlin Government to assist them with an order. TbU is victory of a certain kind, and wholesome if it were not a victory of the pen and not of ethics.

is very busy and very enthusiastic iu painting the frescoes of his new house which, it is said he purposes to bequeath to the city of Paris. But ho himself has not said so, and the world shall not yet know.

Morrlssey'd Tobacco Box. Froic the New York Tribune. Iu a pawnbroker's window in the Bowery there is a silver tobacco box inscribed, "John Morrissey, Champion." Blind Belisarius begging by tho wayside was not a more pitiful example of the ingratitude of rulers than this trophy, the memento doubtless of many a bard fought field and gory nose, exposed for sale with a heap of battered jewelry, artifi cial teeth and second hand banjoes, Surely his party will not allow such a reproach to continue. It is the plain duty of the managers in this city to take that box out of pawn and restore it to the owner with appro priate ceremonies. There is room on the cover for a little more inscription and at slight expense the legend could be made to read. "John Morrissey, Champion of Reform, Econ omy and the Laws* From his grateful friends and comrades, Boscoe Conkling, Chester A. Arthur, Hugh J. Hastings, Benjamin K. Phelp3," etc. A committee of Brown Stone Voters might then wait upon Mr. Morrissey at the Club, and Mr. Conk ling might present the box with one of bis finest speeches.
A Queer Way to l3 Killed. Greenville (N. Advocate. Mr. Picket Boggan, a respectable citizen of more than forty years' res idence in this county, met a most singular death at his home, near Pine Apple, a short time since. He was sitting on the piazza of his house in a rocking chair, and near the rail ing or banister, his feet resting at the edge of the flooring. In this position his feet slipped off the floor toward the ground, his body being allowed to follow on account of the moving forward, of the chair on the rockers his chin caught on the upper railing, and the back of the chair came up against the back of his head, and so remained, so that he was suspended in this singular manner. Being quite old an infirm, he was unable to extricate himself, and the weight of his body restiug on his chin prevented his opening his mouth to call for help, and he thus died from strangulation.
Tho Utica Observer mentions as a fact which has escaped the notice of all bis biographers, that Edgar Allen Poe was the grandson of Benedict Arnold. His mother, who was known before her marriage as Elizabeth Arnold, an English actress, was the natural daughterof the traitor. This statement rests upon the concurrent. testimony of a number of old actors who knew Elizabeth Arnold well. Poe bimsplf alluded to the matter occasionally i:i the company of those who knew this chapter in bis family history.
Sergeant Bates is to be outdone by Captain Willard Glazier, who, having distinguished himself by writing "Soldiers of the Saddle," now proposes to mount a horse and ride from ocean to ocean, stopping en route to deliver lec tures. It is an even thing whether he talks the savages to death, or bis scalp dangles from some of their girdles. And a hypocritical publjp will Ariew either result with equal enthusiasm.
