Kid Gloves.
Ladies who button on their dainty hands and arms the exquisitely- fitting kid glove (often with six buttons, and less than three is not considered stylish), have little idea what numerous processes .the skin has undergone before ready in such perfect shape to wear. The best quality of skin use.I for the Paris market are raised in the district of Champagne,, and really first-class glove3 can only be produced in limited quantities. For the lower grades of gloves the skins raised in the southern parts of France, Germany, Austria and Italy are the best adapted. The skins undergo a great variety of difficult and delicate processes preparing of the rough skins, the tanning, shaving, currying, bathing, reanimating, coloring, cutting, sewing and dressing, a,l of which must be done with the greatest care to prepare the skins for a first-class store. The most important part is the bathing and reanimating the skins. After bathing, dyeing and bleaching, they pass into the hands of the tireur, whose duty it is to select and assort them carefully, and according to their capacity for taking the different colors. This tireur spends a life-time in acquiring this knowledge, while to the inexperieuced they look all alike. The dyeing over, theygototha cutter, who, after cutting tl^?m in long pieces, and marking with the size intended for, brings them at last into glove form by means of iron dies, placed under a heavy press, in which manner three or four gloves are stamped out at the same time. The glove is then ready for the sewing girl, who cannot finish more than two pairs a day, as every stitch is done by hand. After it is sewed it goes to the dressing room, is there carefully and neatly folded, buttoned or hooked, and packed in bv the dozen in boxes ready for the trade. They vary in price, according to quality.
From the Chicago Tribane, Madame Lucky."
Only a few days since the head of a prominent lecture bureau in Gotham received a letter from a small Western village, inquiring for how much the lecture committe of the place could engage "that German singer, Lucky, with a good support, for a couple of concerts?" To this the gentleman addressed replied
MY DKAR SIR To engage that German singer Lucky, with a good support, for a couple of concerts, I fear you would be compelled to mortgage your entire town, to say nothing of the outlaying farms. If you decide to conclude the arrangement I shall be pleased to serve you. Very truly,

"Fame is a Vapor popularity an accident riches take wings the only earthly cerfuiuty is oblivion. And yet I cherish the hope that the journal I projected and established will live and flourish long after I shall have mouldered into forgotten dust, being guided by a larger wisdom, a more unerringsagacity to discern the right, though not by a more unfaltering readiness to embrace and defend it at whatever personal cost and that the stone which covers my ashes riiay bear to future ages the still ineligible inscription: "Founder of the Nt York Tribune."
ON Wednesday evening last, while miss Neilsou was playing "Juliet" at Booth's Theater, New York, as she was iu the act of stabbing bert-elf, in the last sceue, a lady in the audience gave a scream of horror that was heard all over the house, and then, as if hecoming conscious of the illusion, she supplemented it with a sigh of relief equally audible. The audience roared with a laughter that could not be suppressed, and it was as much as the dead "Romeo" and dying "Juliet" could do to keep from sharing the merriment.
WHEN, in the Electoral College of New York, the ofiicers eameto&ealup the envelopes containing the vote, preparatory to mailing it to Washington, there was need of a seal to set the wax. President White, of Cornell University, one of the Electors, had on his linger,"a seal-ring, a gift from Goldwiu Smith, the English scholar, hearing the device of the wii'ged figure of Victory, and, at the suggestion of Mr. King, of Queens, the wax was stamped with" that seal.— Albany Journal.
WHEN "Our American Cousin," was first, produced it had a run of six months, Jeiierson and Sot hern playing the rival parts of ".Asa Trenchard" and "Lord Dundreary" Since that time, however, Jetfer on has given himself almost altogether to "Rip Van Winkle," while Sothern has made "Dundreary" his own. From present appearance Mr. Sothern might give his whole engagement at Wallack's to his inimitable picture of the idiotic nobleman.

IF necessity is the mother of fnventiou, just fancy what the necessity of that old toper in Cincinnati must be, who has been getting his (irinks lately out of the unsuspecting druggists by going into a drug store professedly for the purpose of buying empty whisky barrels. He goes into the cellar wiih the proprietor a lid helps clear out the nearly empty barrels, taking a driak if the opportunity offers. He then starts oft for his wagon and fails to return.
A CAT that disappeared about the time of the great nitro-glycerine explosion ner-r the race track, two years ago returned last week to her old home in town. Whether she was blown up and just came down, or has just recovered from her scare, is a subject for argument.—Titusvilie Evening Press.
