Gratitude prompted a Danbury man to eat a whole chicken with fixings on Thanksgiving day, and he woke up in the night under the impression that he was keeping a flourishing livery stable.
The dog with the singed tail that ap peared ou Main street, Monday afternoon, was not from Boston, but belongs to Edward Evans of this town. It had evidently participated in some torchlight procession.

An agricultural paper says strawberry beds may be protected from birds, by running a wire along the walk to which a cat is chaiued. Her movements up and down the length of the wire will keep the birds away. Where there is no chain, the wire can be run through the cat, and heated to a temperature that will fill the cat with a longing to keep moving.
A little boy engaged in escorting a quart bottle of yeast through West street yesterday morning, suddenly assumed a horizontal position "with his legs, and came down ou his pew with such violence as to remove the cork from the bottle and distribute the contents very thoroughly over his person. As soou as he could resume his feet and his presence of mind, he gave another boy a secondhand chew of gum to take the bottle home for him, and be stayed down town until matters would become quiet at the house.
When you make a sidewalk you want to get it very narrow and very high— something like the shape of an egg. Then when any one slips ou it, a leg will go off each side, and he will be split through to the chin, and die without a struggle, and his wife can get the insurance, and marry a man who will go into business and make an assignment. On. any other walk a man will fall and cripple himself, and live on for years after his wife is dead, and then die and leave the insurance money to his mother.

COLUMBUS, Ind., Dec. 9, 1872.—Columbus has drawn the prize, and of course, feels future fame and present fortune assured. For the last two weeks there has been no excitement here, except that created by the talk of those who had taken stock in the Louisville-Library Lottery, there being about $3,000 worth of tickets bought at this place. But yesterday commenced a buzz, small at first but when about noon, as a dis patcned flashed over the wires that No. 6,450 had drawn the capital prize, affairs beeame desperate, as that number was held ty a club of ten in this place. The climax was reached at 6 P. M., when a traTu arrived from Louisville bringing Bulletin's vVhich "Corroborated the'Hyipg dispatch. another corner in "Northwestern, The ciub that was so fortunate consisted of eleven gentlemen, who are now fast becoming fit objects for a lunatic asylum. The following are the fortunates W. D. Webb, ofPerkinson & Webb, planing mill and last, though not least, is Charlie Crawford, of Indianapolis, the traveling agent Of Conduit, Daugherty & Co., wholesale grocers. Mr. happened to be here when the club was organized. Another club here held tickets entitling tbem to $10. A friend of ours, who holds a onefourth ticket, will receive twenty-five cents, with the per cent, off, for unsold tickets, etc.
