A TRETJIONT street (Boston) auction store has yielded up a genuine art treasure, a grimy old picture, that was knocked off' for $1.87, but which, when the buyer had cleansed it with warm water, proved to be a fine portrait, and to bear upon its back an Italian inscription, with this import: "Bartolomeo Passerotti painted with his hand his likeness at the age of 51 years, in Bologna. Presented by him to Mr. Giovanni Battista Deti on the ninth day of the year 1571." Passerotti was the founder of the Academy of Bologna according to Nagel's dictionary, ranked next to Titan and died in 1592. The portrait is remarkably clear and distinct, without a single "restoration" or defect, but just as it came from the haud of the master. Photographs of it have been sent to Dresden to be compared with another portrait in the Dresden gallery, besides which, there is only one other in existence. The face resembles Shakspeare in a striking degree.

IT is said that the officers of the signal service on Mount Washington are trying to teach a dog to carry the mail to and from that station. A correspondent of the Boston Advertiser suggests that this is au inappropriate season for such instruction, there being four or five feet of snow on the ground, but that with a dog of good intellect, qnick perceptions, and ordinary docility, success may be easily secured. In support of this opinion he says there is a tradition, coming through such worthy sources as to authorize belief, that previous to the year 1760, the mail between Portsmouth, N. H., and Wells, Me., for seven years was regularly carried by a dog. The mail was carefully made up, tied to the animal's neck, aud carried safely through, until at last, on one of his journeys, the faithful creature was killed by the ludians.

IT was reported some time since that a young lady of Washington was determined to marry a youthful Indian, who had become infatuated and lingered around her house but it transpires that the story was only' partially true. The young brave did linger, and the- other party was pleased hut the brave explained in a few brief words on being arrested, "Big scalp much, ugh that his intentions were not honorable. Governor Walker procured him a full suit of hair, and he started for the setting sun as completely happy lis if he bad hacj the eutire girl.

Mr. and Mrs. Kreeley's Wil's. The followiug has been furnished to us in regard to the wills of INTr. and Mrs. Greeley, and is published on the mere supposition that it comes from a credible source:

Johu Hart, a neighbor, intimate fiiend and legal adviser of Mr. and Mrs. Greeley, is in possession of their wills.' That of Mr. Greeley is in his own handwriting. It was writteu in the early part of November, and the formalities of its acknowledgement and the execution took place on the last day of his life, in the presence of several persons. The subscribing witnesses to the will were Judt^e Hart's son, Reginald 8. Hart, and Mrs. Lamson, au old and esteemed friend of the family. Two wills previously made by Mr. Greeley and inclosed in se.^/d envelopes, are in the possession of ^A'en T. Coffin, Surrogate of Westchester county, and were left in his hands with the understanding that the seals are not to be broken until instructions to that effect are made by surviving members of the family. It is rumored that in each of these wills a number of bequests are made by Mr. Greeley to certain charitable institutions but, in accordance with the last will and testament of Mr. Greeley, all his property is left to his two daughters, Miss Ida L. Greeley and Miss Gabrielle Miriam Greeley.

Mrs. Greeley's will was made about five years ago, being drawn up at that time by Judge Hart, who had been her souusel for twelve years. She left her entire property to her two daughters. The petition for citation in the matter of Mrs. Greeley's will was executed by Miss Ida Li. Greeley before her father's death, and it was presented to* Surrogate Coffin by Judge Hart yesterday.

A Little Boy Who Will Never Lick Skates any More. Yesterday' forenoon a boy about 12 years old, whose name we did not learn, met with an accidaut, while coming down Michigan street, which should be a warning to all boys in the future, it seems that the boy was bringing his skates down town to have them repaired and very foolishly touched his tongue to the iron of one of the skates, to ascertain, we presume, if it were cold. The result can be imagined. The tongue being very moist and warm and the iron cold, they froze together. The little fellow endeavored to withdraw his tongue, but could not. Several gentlemen went to his rescue, but it required the most careful handling to loosen the boy's organ of taste from the iron. They ejected saliva upon the iron and rubbed it fully five minutes before they succeeded, and then a piece of the skin of the tongue, about the size of the nickel, was left on the handle, leaving the surface of the tongue whereit had come in contact "with the iron, as white as though it had been seared with a hot iron. During the time he was fast, the boy gave vent to the most excruciating cries.

THE Turkish Government has determined that all instructions in the national schools shall be given in the national language, and this has caused an outcry among the professers who have been accustomed to teach the Turkish idea how to shoot in French. The Turks contend very properly that national schools are not foreign schools, and that the pupils receive inadequate instruction from the fact of its being couveyed in an alien tongue. The authorities have therefore resolved that books and teachings in all the schools, both higher and lower, shall be in the vernacular. Meantime the press censorship is as rigid as ever, and the Levant Herald has been suspended another two months for commenting on the inadequate water supply of Constantinople.

LAUBA REAM has taken to relieving the dullness of her longitudinal epistles with mild profanity —Cincinnati Enquirer.

The World does not Contain a medical preparation which has obtaiued a more wide-spread and deserved popularity than the MKXICAN MUSTANG LINIMENT. Since its introduction to public notice more than twenty years ago, it has been constantly used for every kind of disease or injury to man or b.-ast which can be affected by a local application, and so far as its proprietors are aware, it has not failed in a single instauce. After so long and successful a term of probation, who will have the hardihood to deny its pre-eminent claims to popular esteem.
