WOODEN NUTMEGS.
The yellow fever is abating in Danbury. There are only two brass bauds here. A denizen of Pugviile picking out a pair of mits at the store, Saturday, wanted something that wouldn't hurt his nose.
With gentle footsteps the beautiful snow stole down from heaven yesterday, and the dark-eyed mud reached up and licked it in.
Some one has perfected ready-made mustard plasters." With one of them and a buiscuit, traveling on the cars will become a luxury.
One of the most impressive spectacles in this world, is eleven persons on chairs thinking up the right name for the horse disease.
A large number of very interesting chickens and turkeys will be looking around to-morrow for somebody to put a head on 'em.
A strong temperance feeling is showing itself in the Hartford police force, and many of the worst cases are reforming, and bid fair to make good citizens.
The reason an urchin gave for being late at school, Monday, was that the boy in the next house was going to have a dressing down with a b8d cord, and he waited to hear him howl.
One of our fashionable youths donned bis first silk hat and cigar, Saturday evening. He got along well enough with the cigar, but he had to give up the hat —it made him sick at the stomach.
A noble up-town boy earned a dollar, Monday, which instead of spending for trash, as many other boys would have done, he gave it to his toiling mother, and in the evening she hired a fiddler, and a pleasant dance was the result.
One of our residents about to depart west, desires to sell a sitting in one of the most eligible groceries in town. The stove is one of the most powerful in market, and the Cracker and sugar barrel is within easy distance.
One of our citizens went to the cars this morning to see his wife off, and having two or three minutes before starting time, "stepped around the corner an instant." He returned just in time to see the train moving off, and slapping his leg emphatically, he regretfully enunciated "I oughtn't .to have tuken sugar."
A young man in company last evening was suddenly observed to stare violently about the room. There was a wild look in his eye, and a dreadfully cofnpressed expression to his mouth. To all questions he made no answer, and the company were beginning to think he was insane, when he gave a quick gulp, turned deadly pale, and in a moment left the house. He had omitted to throw out his chew when he went in.
The Baltimore Bulletin has an article on the "Levity of Journalists," in which it holds the Danbury News to be largely responsible for the evil. A Bridgeport gentleman in renewing his subscription to the Danbury News writes: "I was in Baltimore the other^ day,, and saw a number of your items copied into the papers there without credit." We don't know that we hare helped to create levity in the American press, but we are dreadfully afraid we have made thieves of those Baltimore editors.

Knights of the Round Table. Augustus came home the other evening, and, .observing that I had arrayed myself in goodly apparel, inquired in a tofoe of withering sarcasm, if I intended to immortalize myself by going to the Woman's Bights Convention that evening. Now,, as I have known Augustus evfer since he wore piuafores, the idea of my being annihilated at anything he might say was simply absurd. So I quietly replied that I did.
I went alone. A disposition to accompany his maiden aunt to Woman Suffrage Conventions is not characteristic of the American nephew.
There were quite a-number of fair women and brave men at tlie Temple, but 1 was sorry to observe that few of you were present.
We went to see' as well as to hear, so we did not content ourselves with a birds-eye view of the convention, but went on up till we sat under the very droppings of the sanctuary. I was glad we did, for now I know the exact shade of Mrs. Howe's dress, and I could tell you to a certainty the number of ruffles on Mrs. Cutler's over-dress. These are the things you would like most to know, but I shall not tell you you should have come and seen for yourselves.
Just iu front of the stage was around table—and there sat that hydra-headed monster, "the Press."
Dear giris, I had never seen a live reporter. But remmebering the reports he his been in the habit of giving of conventions similar to this, I had pictured him to myself as a "scoffing, scowling, darksome man, scarce, worth woman's scorn."
He was nothing, of the kind. He appeared altogether lovely and amiable. They yeemed to be on excellent terms with themselves and^verybf^dy else, and had evidently crue to have a good time. A woman's convention, forsooth! It was lawful, plunder. But I noticed that before the evening was over they actually listened, and wrote quietly and thoughtfully.
And I am happy to know that these Knights of the Round Table gave such a
fair and just account of the proceedings of the convention as entitles them to the name.

Playing Garaos on the Aged. Playing games on the aged is not always productive of flattering results. An old gentleman who frequently comes in when we are busy, to talk about theology and planets, mad^ his appearance yesterday, when assuming our blandest smile, we passed him a copy of the last report of the Counecticutt Board of Agriculture. He was very much pleased with it. He looked it all over, and then turning to the beginning, commenced to read it, read it aloud, and we hope to be nomiuated for office, if be didn't go elear through the volume, carefully and intelligently spelling the long words, and sitting between us and the door all the time. It sapped the levity out of us.
THERE was considerable talk yesterday around the dinner table, about the pies and things that "mother used to make," and "how much different a Thanksgiving dinner tasted twenty years ago." Some men forget that they had another style of digestive apparatus then, one which was not out of repair from using rum, tobacco and other luxuries of the present day.— Titmville Evening re
