The Appraisement Law. We are Inclined to think tbd Condition of the *pprai«m*flt of real estate will not be mended roach onder the law recently passwl by tin* legislature Every on« knows that an apprauer *bonlHe well qnnlifiou to perform the duties of bis ofi|ce, and that those duties are of tbe most responsible ch*racterr th*t ho trinst be well acquainted with the relativSTalae ofjatul in the connty and of the whole &tate. We ore albO inclined to think the connty Commiasioners will have seme difficulty in finding a man capable of doing this, who will be willing to devote bin tirae^to it for the paltry sum of tjvo dollars per day.— It would be better to let tbe tsloitioo re* main as it i«, and !iaj»*been since '51, than to ri»k a revaluation in^the hands of in competent persons. Another wite feature in the law is tlii&, it gtve« the appointment of the appraiser, for the first time (1850,)to the connty Commissioners, and ul-o the appointment of his deputies, and fur the acts of these deputies the appraiser it htld retpontilAc on hit bond. Now, it certainly would be doing" more justice to the appraiser,If he must be responsible, to give him the power to select^sitch men for assistants as he may think capable of performing the duties that would fall to them. "Yea," faid Jitum}*, the little brother, '•Frank thinks every one is good for there is Mary Gray, that goes to school, she is all rags and her father gets drunk. None of the girl* will play with her but Frank. The other day sbc fell down and hnrt her head, and mother, don't you believe that Frank went and tore her handkerchief and tied np her head. And do you know tho reason Frauk came home to her dinner? Well, she gave her dinner to Mary, who was so" badly hurt that ohe wasn't able to go home." "That was right, said her father. "Come here Franky, yuu need notcvy for that.— I hope you will always be so." "Well then, father, let's send something over to them poor people, for I like that little boy."

Mr. Moore sent for the girl and told her to take a basket and fill it with the best thoro was in tbe house, and directed Jimmy to fill the wheel barrow full of wood, antl take it over with Biddy. "Pa," said Franky, "may I go and take some of my old toys to Willie, and my old shoes that I weal1 to school?"

He raised up as Franky approached the bed aide and handed him her »hoes and her toys. Oh, how his little heart bounded for Joy. Jimmy set to work and made the fire, and they soon had a warm and comfortable room. Willie's mother thanked them, and said that die toped she might be able some day to repay their kindness. Mr. Moore went over to sse them next day, and procured work for Willie« mother so that she now gets along very well. It is to he hoped that Willie will live to be a man, for he will certainly 1m a good one. If all my little readers will imitate him tbey will never havf occasion to be ashamed of (heir actions.* Not to them alone, however, is it necessary to furnish an example of conduct, but let all who may read this little story remember: that thsre may be many others scattered all over the city, who are suffering for work. Let them have it. There is work enough for all, and if it were equally divided amoug those who need it most, every one would be supplied with at least the necesiwu it's of life.
