\*sx 19- Tbe proprietor of the Terre-Haote House, Mr. C. Rose, h« Erected a large and commodious building on the canal, east of tho T. H. fe R. R. Depot, for ttu» purpose of preserving fresh meat* during (he comaker season. It is the most complete arrangement for this purpose now in onr city. Mr. A. L. Chamberlain, the builder, informa na, that the entire construction of tiiis building, is npon the most scientific and approved plan, and caunot.be excelled in any city. The walls are lined with charcoal and »aw-da#t, ten inches thick, outside of which is another wall, leaving a vacuum between, of a flew inches, to give ventilation. Tho meat is Vept and cut up in a room underneath the ice house, out of the reach of flics and heat. Whatever impurities in the air may generate in this room, is carried off through fluos or pipes, forced out by the continual current of cold air which has free circulation around tho entire room.

The front room of this building will bo used as a salesroom for all kinds of fresh meats kept by those who may have charge «f tho builiing.

tlT 8omo mullet-headed icribbler for the Express has discovered a typographical error in tho Union !!, We don't wonder at scribblcs pouncing upon the Union whenever an error i««n its columns fur &ejf know and fuel its reputation for correctness, consequently their eagerness to {ick np "email things" itf manifested some* what aftec the fashion of the little boy who detected mintake his matter'* conip-anitioa. The little fellow threw fesrusclf upon %»i« dig*iljv and claimed the right to the litlo of Proftssor, him*el/! Well, he did. So it is with the .vriter in the Kxpress—he found a typographical srror in the Ualan, and doubt will f»itch in now ami undertake to rerisi Wobster! Who know*?

tW Yo«terday wa saw a la*ge Alligator skin hanging at a post in front of the Laather Store of Messrs. O'Boylo Burnett, on 4th street. It is a whale, and we thought, the first time wo caught a glimpse of it, that if toe abovo named gentlemen were prepared to Ion this hide, wo could eco no good reason why they could not make leather out of a clap lo ird. jMT A bill of #26 was presented to the Board of Council, at its last meeting, for payment, which wa« refuaed. This bit! is for a portion of the expenaes in fitting up a stand and maU on tha 5Ui of July last, for our oelebration, aud we sea ao good reason why tho Council shoald sol ordw it paid out of the general fnnd, «s thia woald equalise the matter, olch eiti* ten paying his proportion. Our beautiful store rooms, NEWLY fitted np, in NEW style, to do business on a NEW plan, are now full of NEW and Elegant Staple and Fancy Dry Goods, to l»o sold at prices NEW to Terre-Haote. It is a wellknown fact that we were the first to cut down prices and profits in this city. We never would knowingly permit ary house to sell at a lower price or Use profit than ours. Ouly few years ago job had to pay from 30 to 40 per cent, profit on your goods. We are now, (by our new system,) enabled to mak3 money in selling yon BETTER goods, bought at LOWER priced, for ten per cent, profit! That von may better understand how'this is done, \va here state that on the first of this month we commenced on our nem system of selling exclusively FOR CASH. By bavins? for CASH, and selling for CAS H, wo expect to make money at 10 per cent, profit, and we venture to say that no other house in Terre-Haute ever did or ewri pretended to sell a Stock of Diy Goods at suck a profitr As for facilities for buying goods, we take it that Mr..CASH is the best buyer. He bnys our poods. With cash and tkirtten years experience, we Hatter ourselves that we can sate as muck in buying as any one. We have tho proof to offer you that it is so Will you have it If so» drop iu uador tha sign of thj big T, and we will show you a stock of --a*. -m .m:«Y£.rrv" NV
