A Father Tries to Kill his Son.
The Son Kill* his Father,
The People's PrcM, of Bliiffton, Wells county Indiana, given the following acconnt of a tnoat terrible affray which occurred in that county la«t week. We have ceeu nothing «o fearful in maDy a day as the vindictive spirit of the lather charting hit* own ton for honrs to get a chance to kill him
Ou Thursday morning this community was nhcked to hear that a father had attempted to kill hi* aon. On the evening of the same day, a thrill of horror was sent through the people by the intelligence that (he MOU bad «hot the father. Abtahtm Cane, the proprietor of the Central Hotel, was the father, and Scott Case the son.
It seems that the Wginning of this sad affray was catted by a dispute between thntn shout the title ot a carding machine and the pay for wool carded in it. Scott Case hail been tending the machine during tho Htrnittier, and claimed at least part of proceed* of said machine.
On Monday ovening hih father demanded tint kny to the nmchin which he de-lir-rcd up omptly. In the morning a customer came lor his wool, and Scott asked hiit father lor the key that ho might get the wool. The lather replied he would attend to the delivery of the wool, receiving pay. aodjtaid thai ho would go down to the machine when he got ready. Srott then werii down to the machine, af^tcted an enbtnnce, and wa* standing in tlie duor wIh'ii Iiim futher anil the customer catm* Up. The father, without a word piUNtng between them, commenced nn as suit upon the on with a cane which ho had it) his hand, whereupon they clinched and Scott, in the struggle, got potsossion of thd cane, sand iiis father picked tin an axe, with which he struck twice at nlm, aiming at his head, suying, "By G-—d, I'll kill you." Fortunately, Scott dodged and warded off the Mowh and soon left his father. The father wax afterwards arres* ted and fried before Justice Kellogg upjii the charge of "assault and battery with intent to kill.'/ During the trisl the fath* •cr confessed that he would have killed his (Son—that it was his intention to kill him if he hud advanced toward* hitn, and with a reckles^ne-s not often obverved said that he cared nothing for life—that he was rea«!y die,
Tiie rtmuli of the trial was tliat he was bi«mid*tivvr to tbo next term ol the Circuit Court, and on refusing to .give bail, was cbniriiUlVd tp Prispn. He remained in jail till Kome time in the afternoon, when h* hvArd tint his son had started to Fort.Wapiiw, an-l had procured the use of hi* btr^y to make the trip then he askt'd ».?ftn .(iAi|,o*nd after getting it started on
