Through the politeness of the fiev» J. COVKIIT, Preeidentof the Tern-Haute Female College, we were shown through the spacious and magnificient College bttildiage the other day. The Soishiug touch ia note being pat on, and when completed, we

without fear of contradiction, that

they will be the finest and most convenient Wildings, of the kind, in the Untied States. There may be a few larger one*, bat none can be more completely arranged and better adapted to the purpose for which they are constrocted. ^Thsmain building fronts east, and the entoance te by a flight of steps some ten feet high By 26 or 30 feet long, at the head of which commences font large gothic pillars sop porting a beautiful portico ru&uing to the third story floor. Inside of thii portico is in iron balistrade parallel with the second floor, some fifteen or twefltyfeet long by the usual width.-— On each aide, parallel with the lower floor in another upon stone brackets, situated in the ccntre between the portico and the corner of the building, leaving a margin at each end of »ome six or eight feet*

The cupola or observatory, upon this building is the most beautiful piece of work to be found in the Western or Eastern States. Its bold and commanding appearance has a peculiar attraction whieh only needs to be seen to be admirod, and when the eye once gets a glimpse of it, the beholder becomes so electrified that he is compelled to stop and feed his imsgaination upon its beautiful form for several minutes before he becomes satisfied, and not a fanlt cait. be pointod out, by the most critical observer, even should he be intimed to view it for that purpose. This observatory commands a magnificent view of the surrounding country, even with the naked eye, for from ten to fifteen miles ilmost in every direction. The cars from the East and South can be plainly seen darting across the prairies for seven or eight miles, and almost a distinct view is had of nearly eviry building iu the city in all directions, except those obeenved beneath the grew foliage of the map lo and the lotus*, tree. With thfsprospect o£¥aving one of the finest Female Institutions in the country, we think every citizen of Vigo county should pride himself upon ita entire success, snd lend his influence in its behalf upon all occasions until that reputation it so justly merits has been permanently established, and to which end every thing has been so completely arranged, regardless of expense, by Mr. Covert, to whom weare indebted for this long desired acquisition to our beautiful city. We look upon it as one of the main pillars to our fnture prosperity, and which will, if properly fostered and cared for, do more to increase the population of our city than all the improvements that have been made in the past ten years.

37). We mean th® sublime passage that put to shame many a nominally Christian philosopher: "Nobly does aristotie observe, that it there were beings who had always lived eadflr ground, in convenient, nay, magnificent dwellings, adorned with statues, and pictures, and everything that belongs to prosperous life if, then, these beings should be told of the being and power of the gods, and sh sold come up through open fissures from their secret abodes to the places which we inhabit if they should suddenly behold the starry heavens, and changing moon, the rising and the setting of the stars, and their eternally ordainod and unchangeable course, they would exclaim with truth There are god and such great things are their works."

How much, it is to be desired that this truly remarkable man, before oiosing his unrivalled scientific career, should bow down, in child-like adoration and faith before the one and the true God, whose living presence alvne gives strength, ord end beauty to the work of His hand, and whose glory shines from the starry heavens above us, from the solid earth beneath us, and from the rational will within us, from the book of nature and the book of history, but,, biightest of all, from the book of books, and the face of His only begotten Son, full of graoe antLof trnth.

for he was born in 1769, the same year with Napoleon and Wellington, and withmon|he of the elder Schleiermaoner and the younger Hegel—he still speaks and writes with the freshness of youth and the vigor of manhood, and seems to defy the wasting power of time upon the mortal frame. He never was married but to seicnce. He talks with the same rapidity and fullness of information as ev$r reads and answers some 4,000 letters annually dines Almost daily wish the King of Prussia, and performs, contrary to the wishes of his royal friend, the duties of chamberlain in his turn, refusing the indulgence of a chair he is incessant in politeness to friends aud distinguished strangers during the day, and Spends the half of the night in Bevere scientific labor allowing his body only houw of rS«t. I 'U ft fWbat a melancholy reflection that siich a master of all the mysteries of nature, the daily companion of a piuus King, and in moral point of view, a kind -hearted, benevolent and amiable gentleman, of the highest finish, should, like Germany's greatest poet, Goethe, content himself with the wonders of nature, without rising to nature's God, and remain indifferent to the greater mysteries of grace. I may do him injustice but I cannot remember now to have read even the name of God—not to speak of Christ—in the three volumes so far published of his Cosmos, except in approving quotations from a lost work of the heathett Aristotle, as preservad by the heathen Cicero, (rfe
