We are informed by Captain Nichols, of the Baric John Ifowet arrived at tbis port on Saturday. that the (hip Olartwlon, Captaia Bartlott, having on board a cargo of sugar, bound for New York, while lying at the pott Sagtta la rande, was toaxtted by a boat frott tbe ferilisb war eteatner Buzzard, and the oftcer in command ftoOiednaely jo«D4»ed on board and proceeded to tbe cabm, asi^ xsotafcanded Captaift Bartlett to jtoiat Ms wfeck )M refused to do, deeming the whole proceeding as an hi suit. of that fact. The officer their departed, raying he would report to the commanding officer of the steamer.

Upon refusal of Captain B. to hoist his ensign, several shots—blank cartridgeswere fired by the steamer, in order to intimidate Oaptain Bartlett and compel him to hoist his ensign, which he did net do. Captain B. then noticed that they had lowered away fwt of their large boats, each containing abotit fifty men, with any quantity of small arms, when he (Caf lain B.) took his ensign and laid,it on the*Cabin table. S6on aft«- the -boafes anivosl alongside, and the commander of the steamer in person came on 'board, when Captain B. reccive^l him politdybut protested against the prwceediug, knd would not allow any of the men to Come On boatd threatening to shoot the first that attempted it. Captain B. and the British commander then proceeded to the cabin, when he (the commander of the steamer) commanded him to hoibt his ensign. He replied, "there it lies upon the tiible, and if ytfur ctttomissioh is worth enough, hoist it yourself-." The British officer, pistol in hand, commenced pacing the cabin, saying that he would seize the vessel ahd take her to the port of New York, to which Captain B. replied that was exactly what he wanted him to do JK'bea, whether by intent or accident, Captaih B-. was struck on the breast by the hand which held the pistol. Captain B. then presented his pistol and said: "Sir, keep your hands off of mo, or I will shoot you." Tho officer replied: "1 did not lay my hands tn ywu," tfheh Captain B. rejoitted: "You did tir." The officer enquired if the sugar on board belonged to Captain B„ when he replied! "I never owned a hogshead of sUgar in hiy life The same question was asked in regard to the launches (boats for conveying the sugar on board) and the same reply given. The officer, completely cowed, pioceeded on deck, and, alter reaching tho deck, in a perfect rage bellowed" forth: "LoWer away the gangway ladder," when "Captain B. quietly saidi "Sir, didyou order that ladder to be loweredj or did you request it to be lowered whrtn the officer said: ''Will yoti please have it lowered Captain B. then gave orders for it to be dono, and the Britisher departed without haviitjJ accomplished his object. 4V# also lekrn from Captaih Nichols, thttt about tlie 18th of April, on his passage from tlavaiia to Sugua la Grande, and when off Aiigulls, he tros boarded by a boat from the British war steamer Muzzard, and the officer in command without any ceremony sprangmpon deck and immediately commenced asking questions^— such as tho vessel's name, her commander's, where she hailed from, where she was bound, her owner's name, kc and upon entering the cabin—bjr invitation—be demanded to sed hef papers, which were shown him He thtfn departed. Captain N. states thst his ensign was then flying, and that it had toeii hoisted On the first approach of tho steamer.

After arriving at Sflgua la 0ramie, and while lying in that port, he was again horded by boat fi-om tho same vessel and his paper* demanded, although his e««Hgn was flying. His reply was, they *ere at the Consul's office. The officer then fixamioed the vessel and scrutinized the hold.

Captain Nichols is of tlie opinion that tho officer was intoxicated at the time. He judged from the appearance of (h« nan and the bold manner in which hoaeted.— Captain Nicholsoffored him a cigar—he having no liquor oh board—which he refused, but requested a glass of water which was given him. He then departed.
