It will be teen by card in to-day's issoe, that ilie three Fire Companies, end Book and Ladder Company of our city, contemplate holding a anion Festival on llrarsdey, the 3d day of Jnnit, School Hoose on 4t& street.
Three Bnnds#of music fear* been procured for the occasion, and also a talented Glee Club, which will discourse sweet mu etc sufficient to drive doll care away, and render the evening's entertainment one of thk most pleasant of the MHtson. All who can possibly make it convenient to attend this Festival, will be amply re* wattled for their time and money.
The life of this Festival, like all other social fetet will depend npon the energies of the ladies who are willing to take an interest in getting it np» and we know that when they undertake to accomplish an aim, there is no power that will not yield to their smiles and entreaties. Let the young ladies, one and all, who can spare the time, go to work and lend their iaflaence in favor of the noble Firemen of our city, and we can assure them that they will never have cause to regret the loss of time thoy may consume.
45f"The Journal, of Thursday, says the "River it up booming. It is over the bridffit, and still rising." Well now, tbat is rich—''over the bridgeYou must bo on a high, and take it for granted that everything that is in the habit of rising, is in the same bappy fix. You ougi«t not to ecare our river bottom folks below so badJyy—tboy have 'trouble enough—besides thai delusion of yonrs caused several persons to visit the bridge early ou Friday morning, expecting too see the highest Wabash they ever looked at, and to their astonishment found it scarcely bank full. One of theso early risers 6sys to us, "1 cant see what ever possessed Cookerly to tell snch a miserable lie." We joined in a hearty laugh with the duped, and went on our way thinking of the blunders of human nature when not properly put up
JSFlt will bo noticed by the proceedings of the last meeting of the Council that wo are to have no Schools. The idea once so prevalent that the Council were favorable to our Graded Schools, has beongiven up. 'There is no alternative left now, but to look well to the material we send to our next legislature—tliey will havo to give us tho power to levy and collect the Sobool tax, otherwise our fine School Houses will bo but monumontato our good intentions, and also of the ignorant and penuriatu desires of those who seek the overthrow of the Free School system.

Now I'll tell yon two things nobody ever seed won is a ded mole—I means a mule jest died without any help and totber is a sirkit rider's grave. Case why, the ho mules all turn inter old field school masters, and the she wuna inter strong minded wimmen, and then they dies like any other humane.— An the surkit riders, them what marrys for rikohey, turns inter store keepers and them what marrys fur it, but gits bit turns into politicians, and then they dies sorter like humans too. I'll tell yu an uthor thing about the varmints they eat chickens round the sirkit till they scares up a rich gall, and if over one ove em lowers bis sites onto a gall, why she is a gall no lon« ear, no more nor he staya a rirkit rider.— They jist hitoh hosaes, and good-by gall, good bye ole sedge field, pine thickrt, sirkit. and look ontfor a team ove ahuttail children, a pple oman, sharp hos tradin, and stayin athonie on koieetion Sundays.

Now the squawkin, an cussin, an the smashin of things, and mixin of vittils commenced. They bad sot several tabils together to make lyt long cnuf, so he jest rolled em up atop oye one another and thar sot ole Miss Clapshaw astraddle uv the top uv the pile a fitin bees like onto 'a mad wind mill, with her^palliker cap in one hand for a wepnu, an a* cruet frame in tuther an a kickin like she wur a ridin a lazy hoss arter a doctor. Jist as soon as ole blackey could see, he tore off down the lane (tryin to out run the bees) so fast that ole Burncs was fraid tu try tuget off so he jest socked his feet inter the rope stiraps an prepared hissclf for the dumdest fastest bull ride mortal man or 'oman ever hod. Sock took down 'tween the hitched hoses on the rail fence, an ole Dturns fitin him over the head with thehaskit tu stop him, an then fitin the bees.. I tell yc he kept that ar basket a roovin. I'll jist be durned efl didn't thick he had four or five baaklts. I cud see that maoy somft times at once W&ll, Burns, baskit an bull, scared every (turned bass an mule loose from the fende, some obsarvin bees a stopin on each one tn help it tu start fast from that onqnict and trubelsoum place.
