Of Kentorkf.

Jt3T W« lenrn from our exchanges that the German Republican paper at Indianapolis, has taken doR*n the Repnbliean ticket, and refuse to have anything more to do with the party a* it now stand*. The Indiana American, pnblished at the same place, heretofore a little tainted in the Mine way, cams to oa this week with a strong leader on Americanism There is but one step to lako now, to form the most formidable party thut has ever entered the American political arena. Just let the Republican party and Dooglaa Democrats endorse Americanism and wave their sectional agitation, and then we shall stand successfully against all the power that can bo brought to bear in this coaotry. All will be peace and harmony.

gW A correspondent of the Lafayette Conner says that the artesian well water of that city is a first rate remedy for sore eyes and similar diseases in horses. He *n:rjd a valnablo mare in a few days with it, after curing oth«»r remedies fruitlessly for months. Livery stable men and farmers will do .veil to note this fact.

Wo beard a gentleman from Lafayette the other day soy, that the persons who own this artesian well, vrcro offerod the snttg mim of

large lintel on the grounds. The premises, beforo this well was dng, could have been had for two thojjMnd dollars. This ia quite a sudden fortune to the holders of this property—indeed it look* rather fabulous, but such are the facts* Can't some of otir capitalists go iuto a little speculation of this kind. We think they stand just as good a chance. Come gentlemen, dip in, we will hold yonr bat,

Jgr Prof. H. B. Hudson, of Oberlin, Ohio, and ono of the editors of the Ohio Farmor, was cruxhed to death in a most shocking mannor by the cars, near OlmMead station, on Saturday last, the 2d inst. It is supposed that he undertook to get off at Borea while the oars were in motion, and was caught, and some of his limbs broken, and thrown across the rails. The fireman on the Tolodo downward train saw him, but it was too late. Prof. H. waved his hand, boing conscious of his eminent danger, but could not even crawl out of tho wuy. The cars out his head off and mangled his body in a horrible manner.

A 1H/.ZLE.

Three-fourths of a cross and a circle complete, Two semi circles and a perpendicular meet, Angle triangle ctands upon two feet Two semi-circles and a circle complete.

The above is a complete scientific lesson, well worthy the stndv of all reader Purh*ps there never have been four lines composed, that embrace so many essential points in Geometry, and unless the reader has a faint idea of the first principles of tho science he might work till dooms day and then not be able to wriio ont the word these linea so completely describe. The word is easily spelled snd rendily conveys to the luind what two of the senses abhor.

The American Party.

The Baltimore Clipper says that it is glad to 3* that steps are about to bo taken to have a complete re-organisation of the American party throughout the Union.— With that re-organixation the Republican party must disband. Indeed, tht cessation of the slavery discussion will destroy all sectional views aud feelings, and ena* bio the American people to combine in one great and united effort to establish American principles throughout the eouatry.

The April Election,

The election on Monday passed off unusually quiet. We attribute this to two causes—firtt, the Democrats were actually atktmtd of their ticket, ami did not urge the election of tktir ckwc*% though they voted to man, and but few flow the track. Stctmdly, the {Heads of the other ticket relied *pon tbe good judgment of the cititens of the township for their support, feeling at the same time, that it could to* dly be poatible to elect the opposition tioket at there were too much difference between the two. This held both parties ia abeyance.

Catholicism vs. Wherever Protestantism has reared its head or gained the ascendency, there is 10 be found divorce, or rather we should say^ adultery and polygamy, for in the majority of'instances, it can scarcely be regarded in any other light.— Catholic Sentinel.

The above sentence is eminently Jesuitical and worthy of. its paternity. This assault npon Protestantism is in accoi* dance with that spirit which elevates a prince in a republican country—which burns our bibles^—which makes war upon our system of education, whic)i condemns and insults our charities, and which strives to subjngato our government to a religious hierarchy^ ?*It is an insult to the people of this fcouritry to linvo their religion thus troduced, aud made by implication to bear sins which are condemned by its principles and discountenanced by its laws.s^As well might the Sentinel charge that Protestantism is the father of every crirn^ known to the frailties of human nature, because they exist' whers it prevails.

Iu return for this complimentary notice of Protestantism, we might, if we cho^e to resort to such weapons, charge upon Catholicim, a lechorous and debauched clergy, as the legitimate result of celibacy.— So far as the veil has been raised from the secret chambers of Catholicism, it justifies tho opinion, that even the clergy, of the Catholic Church, aro not like Otesar's wife, above suspicion. There are no doubt good and pure men in the Catholic Clergy, but in too many instances thoy are shown to be debauched by both wine and women. We should scarcely feel justified in charging this condition of ihings as the fruits of Roman Catholicism for we believe that tho principles of the Catholic religion are at war with such practises but still, they no doubt exist in the very bosom of the church, where human nature is found to be as frail as anywhere else* We should advise the Catho lie Sentinel to turn its attention at once to tho speedy purification of its own churchy before it poises its pigmy spear at Protcs tantism.—Buffalo
