MAT ELECTION.
O* We are anthoriwd to announce W*. I.DPT 3N'. a candi late for Ci Cle«k.
LYMAN E. KNAPP, Ii an America* candidate tor City Clerk.
M*. Ewro*—If F. If. BOSWORTII will con tent t, be a caml'idai*- lor the office or City Treasurer at the Mar clcetion, hjs will be supported l,r
April2. MANY VOTERS.
E7* If HENRY E- CROSBY will cmrcnt fobe a CJixliilate f»ir Owncilman in ih" Third Ward, ho will be supported by MANY CITIZENS.
ST We irtantlmM to nnnounc* AS. HEN of the Fifth Ward, a* a candidate for City Marshal. anbject to a nomination by the citizens should any be made.
tW There appeared to be ft great interest manifested yesterday at our township election—especially by the foreigners.— The ticket gotten up by the Democracy set them completely on their feet—they strutto 1 and acted as though the whole country belonged to them. Now, we have no particular objection to a man, simply because he i" a foreigner, but wear® decidedly opposed to the Atnericttn born Democrats, Republicans, or any other party, putting tlicm in nomination for any ofH*0 for the purpose of keeping them in a good humor so ns to secure their votes. We consMer this both an imposition upon the foreigner and the native—it creates an element that in bonnd to* lead to trouble in this country, rnd wo consider any man who will stoop so low as to meddle with this kind of an element, the most bitter enemy we have to deal with—ho i* not only an enemy to his country, but to thoso he endeavors to draw to his bosom as friend*, an 1 wo stand prepared to convince any man of reason, of the truth of what we
t&~ At tho election yesterday, 1204 votes were cast. This is the heaviest vote over ca«t in the towns\ip, and shows a d«CH«M! increase in our population.
Tho Democracy of Harrison Township is supposed Jo be defeated, though it is not corlnin. The voles will not bo connto I much before noon to-day.
JCiT Great preparation* are being tnade by our farmers, for tho approaching Reason. Plows, harrows, cultivators and various other utoncil* for fatmfng, have been seen for the last few weeks, at the doors of our blacksmith and wagon shops, for the purpose of undergoing repairs necessary for n*o. Present prospccts for nn abundant yield of every thing of vegetable naturo were never more cheering, and we are happy to see our farmers so anxious to improve the opportunities granted lo them by the benevolent hand of Heaven for tho farmer, favored by Hitn who rules the season^ is sent as a deliver to His people.
ifijT Our streets have born well lined for the lust week by wagons loaded with beautiful fresh fi*h, most of which are taken from tin old reservoir, about fifteen mile* south-east of this city. They are readily sold at from six to eight cents per pound.
«H)u Yeaterdav was warttt and very windy, the dust was flying in every direction which made It disagreeable on the streets.
