Council Proceedings.
CITT HALL, Mar. 18,1858.
Common Council met pursuant to adjournment. Present, his Honor Mayor Patterson, and Councilman Read, Bcach, Tousey, Bttntin, Kestcr, Burton, Conacr, Harvey and Barton.
Absent, Councilman Hough. The minutes of the precoding meeting wero road and signed.
Mr. Conner, chairman of committee to have clock repaired, reported progress, and asksd for aufiority from the Council to have a roof built over ths clook. Report was accepted and granted.
Dr. Read, chairman, reported the following Your committee to whom was referrod the petition of Mr. H. M. Gram, in regard to the construction of r. vault in the public Cemetery for the temporary deposit of dead bodies, would respectfully report, that thoy have carefully considered the matter in reference to the publio health and general utility, and that they can see no good reason why the petition should not be granted, but on the contrary, regard that it may be of convenience and utility, and would thereforo report favorably, under tho following restrictions: 1st, That it shall bo erected in Lot 48, Block 1, See. 16 2d, That it shall be tinder the direction of the Board of Health, aud such ordinanco as may hereafter be passed in rofereaoe to its management, and that this shall in no wise deprive the City of its right to construct a
vault of its own.
Mr. Kester, one of the committee on putting up sign boards on the corners of tho principal streets in the City, reported that it could ba done at a oost of 33 oents for each sign.
Report was accopted, and thecommittee were authorised to contract for 150 signs, part of them ainc and others wood as they may deein best, and have the same put up on the principal streets in the city.
The petition of William T. Gould waa presented aud granted. On motion of Mr. Conner, the Contrac tor on North Fourth Street Grade was instructed to finish said work*.„
On motion of Mr. Buntin, the Council proceeded to go into ballot for Market Master for lower Market House.
Mr. William M. Slaughter was unanimously elected.An Ordinance'offered by Mr. Harvey in behalf of the Fire Association of this city, entitled, "An Ordinance for the better regulation of the Fire Department of the city of Terre-Haute," was referred to Councilman Beach and the City Attor
