O" We •itanihorix"d lo xanmincr JOHN W. DODSON a cuMlidate f«tr rc-election to the office of constable at the Aj*il flection.
IT We are authorized to announc AS. HEN RY of th« Fifth Ward. as a candidate for City Marshal, suhjee/ to a nomination by tha citizens, should any be made.
Benefit Night.
Mr. an«l Mrs. K. II. Sawyer take a benefit to-night, upon which occasion will be presented thc"Irinh Emigrant/' "Mr. ami Mr*. Peter White," and the "Eton Boy." Mi's Fanny Dcnham will appoar in three c'/aracters, which never fails to give life to .n ovonirig's entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. Hawyer have been upon the boards all winter, and onr citizens hare had opportunities of judging of their merits. They have behaved thenisolvesas honorable persons ever should, and now ask the lorers of the drama to give them their kind patronage on this evening. Every thing tvill be done to please the andience, that can possibly be commanded. Sec posters and programme*.
car Mr. C. II. Bailey has now for sale, "lvnapp'g patent" and the "Diamond Light," coal oil lamps. Mr. B. left ouc upon onr table, the other evening for our benefit, that wo might judge of the true merits of the*e lamps, and we honestly believe lliey como ax near the gas light, ns human ingenuity can devise. In some respects wo would prefer it togas light. It is softer, belter for the eye, and as we believe can bo had for about one-half the cost of gas. At any rate, iheso lamps arc worthy of a fair trial, beforo you dip Into
something worse. Call at Mr. Bailey's and pet one on trial for an evening or two, and then act as your pocket may dictate.
Science still Advancing. Mr. Alonzo Taggirt,' of 8t. Louis, Mo., is now stopping at the Clark House, where In will bo found for ft few days, with a model of his "Excavator and Convey."— His improvement consists in a complete remodeling of the comtuan wagon, so that it can bo used to more advantage, in tho hauling of heavy lo,'s or stone, or in excavating oarth. The improvement i.s valuable, and will be fully appreciated by our farmers on first sight. The heaviest stono, or log, can be easily loaded and unloaded by & boy who is capable of driving a team, without danger, difficulty or troublo. We do not feel it our duty to give a minute description of this wagon, and therefore will recommend onr citixens and especial
ly onr farmers, to call at tho Clark House nnd examine it for themselves, as they are better judges of what they need and require for their work than we arc.
