HEOEHAH'S THEATRE—SECOHD NIGHT OP DORA 8H1W.—A
large and fashionable
audience waa present last night—the second of thegjreat American lrage li«nne Miss
DORA SHAW,
who appeared in her fa
vorite character of Mrs. RaiUr, in Kotzenboe's beautiful play of the "Stranger." We hare seen many persons in this difficult part, and among them some who stand at the very top of the profession, but in many respects the Mr». Holler of Miss SHAW will compare favorably with the very best. Her conception of the character was correct and beautiful, and was above all free from the servile spirit of immitation that too often characterises the efforts of many who aspire to ^dramatic honors, and who are toe spt to think that the only way to reach them is to follow th» beaten path so often trolen before them. Yet, with this profession, above all others, it is necessary for trne genius to leave itself nntrammelel by old customs, which, if it follows them, will rob it of itself, and leave instead, the hacknoyed? conceptions— the worn onfr personations that every one has seen and all have become tired of.— MIHN DORA 8HAW has, to a great extent, avoided all this—whether because h»»r genius has risen above it, or because the compnrativoly short period she has been upon the boards has net allowed her an opportunity to become sn imitator, it i* impossible for us to say. *It matters little which, if either, was the cause, for she has long passed btyond that point now, and is much more likely Hi fmniHh a style for othors than to profit by following in their footsteps.
To-night she will nppoftr in the beantiful character of Parthcnia, in "Ingomar." 'Hm entertainment will coticlu le with the lanpliaMe fare" of "More Blnnders than One," in which IIAHIIV MAOAUTUY and Mi** FAMSY DK*IIA* will appear in the principal characters.
