beautiful

play of tfce "L&dy of Lyons" was produced at Dodson's last iiightto a large and respectable audience, and was followed by the interesting little, after piece of "Nature and Philosophy." /The characters were welt tra*tainel, and everything passed off inr creditable manlier. The afterpiece was recoived in a ,manner that convinces us that a repetition of it would be toy acceptable.

To-night will be presented the beaatifal dram* of' Faint Heart never won Fair Lady," in which Mrs.

will appear

in her fivorite character of Char let 11.— TIji» will be followed by the laughable farce of the "Spectre Bridegroom," after whieh the performance will conclude with the *'Limerick in which Mr. J. P.

will appear aa Paddy Miles. We

are pleased to learn that manager

lias second the services of this talented Imh Comedian and Vocalist, who will appear every nigh^ in his rich and amusiiig representations of Irish character.

HEOEHAS'S THKATRE.—This new institution was opened last night to a very respectable audience, the plays for tho evening being the popular drama of the "Toodles," the laughable farce of a "Kiss in the ])aTk" and the snccessful burlesque of the "Lady of the Lions.'' We have heretofore spoken of the taste displayed in the scenery, decorations fec., of this establishment. Of the present company we have not seen enough to be able to judge of the respective mrrits of its members. During tbd little time business permitted us to remain there, the performance passed off well.

A fine bill is offered for this evening, comprising Tobin's beautiful comedy of the "Honey-Moon," and the laughable farce of the "Secret." .»»«.t- -o

A Pleasant Dance.

Thccptillion party given by Prof. Nott and his son, at the National Hall, on Mondty evening last, was a splendid affair. The exhibition of the scholars showed that they had been taught by one who understood the science of dancing. The '•Scotch Dance," danced by Miss Early and Miss Turner was decidedly interesting, and would have done credit to older heads. Miss Smith, in some of hor fancy dances, showed great skill and proficiency, and is decidedly a beautiful dancer. Bach an exhibition we have never had the pleasure of witnessing before, and we hope that it will not be the last.

In giving these entertainments, Prof. Nott incurs considerable expense, for which he receives no remuneration worth naming, and we now propose that the dance on Friday night next be considered as a benefit given to Prof. Nott, and that each gentleman attending said dance pay the small sum of one dollar. We cannot see but that this is due to Prof. Nott, and certainly no one could object to this plan of assisting to defray the expenses he incurs by giving the.se dances for the amusement of our young men and ladies. -o—

LIBKBAMTT or PHYSICIANS.—It has always been said that physicians would disparage any remedy, however valuable, which they dia not onpinate themselves. This has been disproven by their liberal course towards Dr. J. C. Ayer's preparations. They have adopted them into general use in their practice, which shows a willingness to countenance articles that have intrinsic merits which deserve thenattention. This dees the learned profession great credit, and effectually contradicts the prevalent erroneous notion that their opposition to proprietary remedies is based in their interests to discard them. We have always had confidence in the honorable motives of our medical men, and are glad to find it sustained by the liberal welcome ftiSv acc6rd to such remedies as Ayer's Charrv Pectoral and Cathartic Pills, even though they are not ordered in the books, but are made known to the people through the newspapers."—N.
