Was it an Earthquake? On yesterday morning about half past four o'clock, there was quite heavy shock of some kind evperienoo.l in the city, and at several diffe eut point* in the country Houses were shaken to sa«h an extent as to awaken tho inmates, who in several instances ran out to ascertain the cause, but the morning was quiet and no cause could lm observed. We saw one man who lire* ten miles ea»t of tho city, who informed us that the shock was experienced where he resided, and also a gentleman living at Otter Creek, who informed us that he was awakened by the shaking of his house, and thonght some one was endeavoring to break down the door. The writer of this was also awakened by the trembling motion of the building he occupied. The shock lasted about four or five •e. ids, and appeared to cause an undulating motion of the earth. What was it? What caused it? This is not the latitude for earthquakes, and unless there was one at some distant place whose shook* was felt here, it iii probably remain a mystery to us.

0QT* The last steamer from En rope brought a report of a fire at Petersburg!), in which one hnndred and sixty vessels were destroyed.

This delightful Aroma Ws been* received by Americans, with that favor which is only extended to really scientific preparations.— When we consider the marked success attending its administration, in the mast stubborn cases of Per or and Ague, Weakness of any kind, Dyspepsia, Heartburn, Acidity of tta St..mach, Sick and Nervous Headache, Indigestion, Costiveness and Pile*, together with the complete control it exercises all Nervous, Rheumatic, and Neuralgic Affefctlons, we cannot wonder at its popularity.— Well ty tho invalid value this remedy. oct. s.-iw.

WOOD'S RESTORAT.VE.—Of all the restoratives for.the hair that have been invented, Wood'8 preeminently claims the firft place. It will eertainly restore the n.it«r*i color of the hair, if the directions nre follow ed for a sufficient length of time. It alsq has produced astonishing effects in bringing out a growth of hair, where the head had been previously l»ald. Wood does not pre tend that it will do this in all cases and we think his candor is a good recc.nmcmlation ot the virtues which his restorative really possesses. If the roots of the hair is destroyed, no human power can make them grow again but where there Is any vitality left in the root restorative will soon renew the lmir in all its pristine vigor. It is therefore worth while in all cases to make the experiment. For clearing the head of dandruff, and thickening and Strengthening tho hair it has no rival—\Vostein Patriot.
