<Messers. Editors of the Union>. I noticed an article in your paper condemning the workman on the atone guttering on Main street; now that condemnation may fall on its proper object. You had better inquire who is defective in this matter, whether a good old and efficient work man is to blame or some one who may he deficient as an engineer, for the work is done according to his stakes and he looking on all the time, and the stakes are still there if you choose to investigate the matter correctly.

In giving a place tot he above no-
tice, we do not consider that we are under any obligations to take back what we said in our local column of Monday. We have nothing to do with the workman on the guttering, and it makes but little difference to us whether he quit the job on his own account, or on some one else's account —we do not deem it our business to even enquire. The job was stopped just as we stated, and other workmen sent for, but whether the work, as was commenced, suited the contractor and engineer, is left to be settle by the parties interested—it is nothing for us to meddle with.
