THE ElECTRIC MOTORS-
They Worked Krawrkablr Well In the Heavy HnoW-ThU aioriilns. When Superiatondant Mike Burke awoke at a reasonably early hour this morning and looked out doors, he, like the generality of pebple hereabouts was probably astonished and puzzled. The ground was covered with a 4 inch level depth of snow, and the electric street railway system was for-the first time brought face to face with a Severe test of its merits. Before daylight tbe big scrapers were sent out over the lines from Ninth street west and also to the union depot The blade of the scraper was brought a» close to the rail as possible and the snow cleared away either side from the tracks. Both generators were »ut in operation and the cars run out. Jeveral trips were made over th« circuit with motor cars coupled together and by noon all trouble had disappeared, a liberal salting of the rails causing a rapW "tT
working of tbe cars. The system may hereforo properly be voted a success.
NOVEL CANNtNQ MACHINE The Invention of John I'. Staff and Its Itenaarbable Capacity.
Tbe machine recently invented far canning corn by J. T. Staff, of tbis city, and which was built at the Pbceuix foundry, is the most complete apparatus of its kind ever built. Tbe machine, which has been on exhibition in Chicago for some time past, was, when tested by tbe delegates to the corn canners'convention, which assembled in that city, pronounced to be tbe most perfect cooke* and canner ever placed on tbe market. Ita capacity is 40,000 cans per day. Mr Staff now contemnlatea an addition to the machine in the way of a sealer, which will seal tbo cans aa fast as they are filled thereby adding special facilities for rapid work. He has received orders for more than a doten of his machines, which will be ahipptd as soon as constructed.
