The Aiaerican Federation «t, a psper pabJinhed at Mattoon the interest of the federation of railway employes, an nounoea in the current number its ioten tlan to mnove to this city. In regard to ifa remoTal it says editorfally: "The cbanjje has been decided upon by the publishers for various reasons, the most prominent of which is the fact that Terre Haute offers the widest and most accessible field for this particular line of work which lies in the path of this publication Beginning also with the same issue, the paper will be enlarged to double ite present size, new departments will be introuced. and other changes made which will place it on an equal footing with the most prominent tabor journals of today."
The American Federation»at is alive railway journal of the principles which it endorse*. It is ably edited by W. H. Johnson and favors the federation of ail railway orders. Jts removal to Terre Haute will nndoubtedly be of advantage to the paper on account of the better facilities afforded here and for the reasons it »ets forth in the above editorial,

President Hill, of the Great Northern, denies his reported purchase of the Pacific short Jine,
Colonel W. E. Morrison, it is said, will assist Edward P. Davis to be reinstated as special agent of the inter-state commerce commission.
William O'Brien has been appointed superintendent of the Chicago & Northwestern terminal in Chicago, including the Wells street passenger station.
East bound grain rates as still beiug cut from twelve to twenty per cent. The Grand Trunk and Lake Snore threaten open reduction unless manipulations cease.
The Easfelrn Illinois and C. & I. C. both changed time yesterday. The Wateeka accommodation on the former which left here at 3:20 p, m. will now leave at 4:10 p. m. This is the only change in passenger trains.
Tbe organization whicb has existed on the Maekey lines among the employes has done much toward elevating the condition of the employes of the line. There are radical members of the organization, and the management of tbe road, it is said, has begun a careful, weeding out of-such members. J* *4 fif:
It is generally believed here by rail road men that the Big Four and Toledo, Columbus and Cincinnati roads have en tered into a traffic agreement for business between Cincinnati and Toledo. It is also said that when the track of the Toledo, Columbud Cincinnati is placed in proper condition the Big Four will run presenger trains between Cincinnati and Toledo.
Articles of incorporate have been filed for the Muscatine, liock Island & Peoria railroad, with a capital stock of $2,000,000. Incorporators are Andrew Henry, Peoria Wm. Wilmerton.and E. H. Caldwell, Pre-emption S. J. Hodge and George Hoage, Wenona 111., which constitute the first board of directors. The intention of the company is to construct a railroad from Muscatine via Rock Island to Peoria, the chief offices being in Peoria.
It has developed within the past few days that there is an organization of the Brotherhood of Telegraphers in this city. This is the order that the Western Union recently made such a fight on by discharging any and all of its employes known to belong to the order. The meetings, membership and everything pertAimng to the order have been kept a secret for some weeks—in fact, since the organization of tbe local lodge, but it is learned that the order ia in a flourishing condition here.
It now seems to bo almost a foregone conclusion that the local branch of the Order of Kail way Telegraphers will go to the wall and be compelled to give up its charter. TUB
NKWS
does not publish
the information through any unfriendly feeling toward the organization, but as a matter of news. It is mid that the better claas of members have been obliged to withdraw from the organisation on account of the antipathy of the Western Union Telegraph Company and some of the railroads leaving in a number who are in arrears with their dues. There are, however, members of the lodge who are endeavoring to revive the organisation and who are good men to have in any order, bat thev seem to be such a minority aa to make their efforts unavailing.

I have examined the "Americanized Encyclopedia Britannica" and have no hesitation in recommending it. Some good form of encyclocdiais desirable, almost necessary, in every „ome.
