The Hannafords, the Cincinnati firm of two months* on account of his health. architects, have completed the working plans for the new union depot for this city and the plans have been accepted by General Manager John G. Williams, of the Vandalia. The deal waa closed this week. The new plans call for an elegant building with the entrance from Ninth street, Thegeneml outline of the new building will be the same as was published in TIJE NEWS some weeks ago, but a number of minor changes have been made. These changes are all for the better, and will greatly improve the appearance and convenience of the new dejot. The cost has not been lessened, and when completed the building will have cost $300,000. Of this amount $75,000 is to be expended on the oassenger station proper, and J125,000 on the train sheds, baggage and express rooms. The building will be a three-story structure, with granite foundation, second story of stone and third of pressed brick, with a tower about 150 feet high. It will front on Ninth street and will have every facility and accommodation for the handling of the business of ail the roads entering the depot. According to this plan the Vandalia wiii enter from the east and west on a straight track and the north and south roads will ail enter from the north and south over .straight tracks. Whether or not the Big Four will run into the new depot is not known, but according to President Ingalis* statement made to THE NEW* some time ago they probably will uniens tome change has sinca been made in the arrangements. It is thought that it the Big Four dot« come in they will run down from Elrn or Locust street over tho Eastern Illinois tracks. This, however, will be somewhat inconvenient as they will have to back their trains out of the depot to get onto their own track, unless some arrangement. ia made for another entrance to the depot from the west. The Eastern Illinois, the T. II. L. division of the Vandalia, and the Mackey lines will all come in from the north and south on the east side of the depot, while the Vandalia will come directly in from the west. The T. H. & P. will come in fiom the west over the Vandalia tracks. The Hannafords will personally superintend the building of the depot and when completed Terro Haute will have a union passenger station that can be pointed to with pride. Work will be commenced this Fall if possible but it is not known yet whether details for beginning can be completed so soon or not

James Collinson, lately division master mechanic of the Atchison fe Santa Fe, has been promoted to the position of master mechanic of the* Chicago division, with headquarters at Fort Madison, Iowa.
The Rock Island's gross earnings for September were $1,722,246.55, a decrease of $18,099.78 as compared with the corresponding month for 1889. The operating expenses were not made public, consequently the net earnings are a matter of guess work.
The office of superintendent of car service on the Peoria, Decatur & Eyansville, which was tendered Otto Schilling a few weeks ago, has been abolished and Mr. Schilling has again assumed the title of train master. J. W. Bledsoe, who was made chief train dispatcher by Mr. Schilling's promotion has taken back his trick.
The August statement of the Burlington shows gross earnings of the system for August, 1890, §3,016,288.82, a decrease as compared with August. 1889, of §220,489.23. Operating expenses for August, 1890, were $1,964,764.51, an increase of $111,011.89. The fixed or the proportion of annual charges, exclusive of dividend charges for the month, were $761,889.32, an increase of $17,503.75.
TheManvel management of the Atchison is not only endeavoring to manage the property in a conservative and honest manner and redeem what seemed, only a year ago, to be the fallen fortunes of that great company, but is also making the strongest possible efforts to create new traflic for the lines owned by the company by encouraging all legitimate commercial enterprises. This week the Atchison closed a deal by which 300,000 acr^s of pine lands, owned by the Atlantic A Pacific railroad, a proprietary line of the Atchison, were sold to Mitchell Rros., one of the most prominent lumbering firms in Michigan and the Northwest.
The Stallion Kings.
The other day when the great stallion, Nelson, on the Kankakee track, had lowered his class record to 2:11|, his owner communicated with W. P. Ijams, who has an interest in Axtell, informing him of Nelson's great flight. Mr. Ijams replied, congratulating^ Colonel Nelson, expressing his satisfaction that the record breaker was coming here and predicting that Nelson, on the Terre Haute track, would make a 2:10 record. It is expected that Nelson will be in Terre Haute tomorrow.
