The Rumor I* Denied at Ev«*na*Ille— The Talk Abont the T. II. A P. and the ViMidnllft -Thctr (tela* llonk Friendly.
ICvANsvii.r.R, 1ml., April 5.—A rumor rirculttU»d in this city to the effect that President Markey hud sold his entire railroiid system to the Vanderbilts, mused considerable uneasiness among business men for a time. Hon, William Ht ilman has just returned from New York, where he has been with Mr. Mackey in r-onncH'tion with the business that has been transacted, namely, the sale of the Cincinnati. Wabash & Michigan to the Vanderbtlt interests. This has been the most advantageous deal ever consummate! by President Mackey. People wondered ywhy he^ purchased tills T«ad, hut it now turns out that he lias made, It is alleged, a million dollars by the transaction. The deal has also led to an alliance with the railway kinra that will prove advantageous to Mr. Mtckey and Evansvillo. Mr. Hoilman authoritatively denies the alley h! sale of the entire system, and says there was no reason for its sale. Their business in New York was solely in relation to the sal© of a half interest of the Cincinnati, Wabash & Michigan to the Lake Show* and Van* ilerbilt lines. Mr. Mackev will still remain president of that road. The Maekey properties are worth more to-day than at anv time during their history. Evansville & Tern1' Haute sold at ISO yesterday in New York, Peoria. Decatur A Evasisville at 24, and Chicago A Eastern Illinois has advanced from 27 to 34$ since parsing into Mr. Maekey'# hands.
