Tn an interview, this momtlgt,'TK'we1! known passenger man said that he did not believe that the deu.oralir.ed state of western passenger rates could continue more than a week longer. "For all the rates arose low," said he, "there is no perceptible increase in passenger traffic. I §|ooM bfsfg thought that
there :?L would ^have been** great. ineiesse, but.V on tlte i«y there 'Wis n4. The rates are down in many oases to almost a one fare rate bat no particular increase has been noticed. I don't know whether it is the weather or whether people don't care to travel, but there is not even a lively movement among the business men. Om thing of eoarae is that onh wtern rates have been cat. Everybody don't want to go West as many want to go East and of tHorse that makes a kcrease. The passenger department of the Central TrafQc Amoeiat)«n have set about to restore rates and although nothing bm iieen accomplished as vet and some of the lints are refractory there will no doubt be a settlement before very long."

The G. Stockton has gone without a barge to the Narrows where she will load wheat for Willard Kidder.
In a recent high wind about twenty feet of the immense sheet iron stack at Kidder's Wabash mill was blown off and came crashing down through the roof of the engine house with a prodigeous noise that frightened the wits out of several persons who were about the premises. The heavy iron missed the safety valve by not more than a foot and serious trouble was thus saved.
The hull of the Hudnut's mdde-over Ida Lee was launched Wednesday at Jeffersonville. Her upper works which have been in course of construction for several weeks will bs placed in position immediately, and it is expected the handsome craft will be sailing the waters of the Wabash in the course of the next four weeks. It wan recently inadvertantly stated that the new name of the boat would be the "Kate Hudnut" Instead she will be christened the "Morris Hudnut."
