Mrs. M.S.Armstrong returned from St. Louis Saturday night and is with Mrs. Theo. Hudnut for a short time.

Miss Edith Cook, who has been visiting the family of E. E. South, has returned to her home in Shelby ville.

Mias Kate Reeves will entertain the North End Whist Club at her home on Ohio street to-morrow evening.

Mrs. Julia Morris was surprised Monday evening by a number of her friends, in honor of her fiftieth birthday.

Mr. and Mxs. Jos. Gilbert accompanied their mother, Mrs. Dr. Morgan, to her home in Crawfordsville yesterday.

Dr. A. J. Thompson and Wm. Burk left last night for Cambridge City, to attend the Lackey horse sales which began yesterday.

Earnest Mcisel, of Cragin, 111., is in the city. He is •superintendent of a hominy mill at Cragin, which is only a short distance from Chicago.

John McKenzie, of Denver, Colo,, formerly of this city, is visiting John Snyder and wife, of South Third street, after an absence of sixteen years.

Mrs. Emory P. Beauchamp and family are at the Terre Haute house where they will remain for about three weeks before leaving for Cologne, Europe.

The South End Whist Club met at the residence of Miss Fannie Hamill last evening. At a recent meeting the club resolved that no priies be offered.

Fred Armstrong, the Ninth street druggist, went to Terre Haute this morning to visit friends for a few days. He is a former resident of that city.—Lafayette Courier.

Miss Bertha "Noble, of North Fifteenth street, entertained a number of her friends Monday evening in honor of her sister, Mrs. Daley, of Minneapolis, Minn,, who is visiting her.

The Tuesday Afternoon Reading Club met at the residence of Mrs. Austin, on North Seventh Btreet yesterday afternoon. The paper read by Mrs. Davis was a very interesting one.

W. H. Caulkins went to Terre Haute this morning oil internal revenue business.—Theodore Clemons left for Terre Haute this morning on his regular business trip.—Lafayette Journal.

Messrs. Harvey Mahan and David Strause, of Rockville, T. C. Crawford, S. C. McKeen, William Tuell and Captain John Lindley, of Indianapolis, have returned from a week's hunting on the Kankakee river. "Miss Lucy Brookaw delightfully entertained & number of her friends with a card party at her home. Among those present were: Misses Lou Wonner, Helen Gilbert, Lncy Brokaw, Profeasre E. Kemp and R. UI urn Dr..,. Mail B. V. Marshall and others.

Prof. Waldo of the Polytechnic will take a trip to Europe this summer accompanied by Richard Strong, Rollin Boutin, Warren Uussey, Frank Cox, Rob Johnson add Fred Heirs), of this city. Albert Hupe, of New Albany and a cousin of Prof. Waldo, living at Detroit. They will sail on the City of Borne lor Amsterdam on Jane 21st.
