N. K. Elliott, superintendent of transportation of the Vandalia, states that during his long service on the Vandalia lines he has never known the volume of passenger and freight traffic of the main line to equal that of the last five months, and February continues to make a good showing,
Clias. E. Fuller, jr., son C. E. Fuller, superintendent of buildings and bridges on the Vandalia, has been tendered and has accepted a position as master mechanic oi the New York, Lake Erie Western with headquarters at Jersey City, He will enter upon the duties of the office on Monday. The Jersey City shops have a capacity to accommodate two hundred engines.
The Vandalia depot at Lakeville on the Logan division was burned to the oumf last night, The agent reports at the fire originated about midnight and that the whole place was saturated with kerosene. No clue to the perpetra ton of the deed. Engineer McKeen will set about immediately to replace the burned building with one of the Vandal la's pretty stations which are so numerous along that line.
The question of removing the bead ouaHers of the eastern division of the Wabash to Peru is now about settled. A line will he built connecting the Toledo line with the Detroit line and the yards and shop* will be centralised at Peru. A force of 300 men are employed on the Toledo. Find lay & Springfield Railway and over a mile of track per day is being constructed. The company expects to run trains into Toledo within a week.
The Farmer's Loan and Trust Company, of New York, has applied for a receiver for the Central Missouri, being constructed between Kansas City and Alton. The bonded indebtedness of the road is $8,000,000.
There is more or less complaint about the running time of passenger trains on the E. & T. H. The time between here and Evansvilie is four hours on all
trains
except the throngh trains from Chicago to Nashville. The time could easily be reduced to three hours.
