City and Neighborhood.
EXIT October.
TERRE HAUTE advertisers are liberal,
REMEMBER the coming of the Langrishe Company.
THE Bulls and bears of Wall street are quiet and orderly.
FINAL arrangements are being made for the Kellog benefit.
EVERYTHING looks more cheerful since the recent rain than before.
THE weekly GAZETTE is a large publication, and worthy of patronage.
Is THE Indianapolis Journal dead We received it not this morning. Tub civil Circuit Court is pny.Muir.no business of general interest, to-day.
THE balle of Bedford is in the city, the guest oi her sister, Mrs.. William Lyons.
THE Langrishe Comedy Company stop at the Terre Haute House while in the city.
THE GAZETTE will be issued under the new management to-morrow and henceforth.
ED. PRICE, of .Sullivan, thinks of making Torre Haute his home, says the Journal.
SCHOOL.children look forward with illy concealed impatience to the advent of the holidays.
IT is not likely that the horse epidemic will prevail in this locality to any extent—if it appears at all.
THE Journal pines for a genuine alarm from the fire alarm telegraph. We a' •willing to wait for such an event.
WE rejoice with our
tSullivan
corre
spondent in tho pifblic and private improvements being made in that little place.
H. H. TIEL has returned from St. Louie. He is negotiating for the sale of his interest in a patent flue cleaner for the snrg sum of $10,000 cash.
THE readers of the Journal were all aware that the editor of that sheet had returned yesterday, before they saw the notice to that effect. r:
EVANSVILLE thinks herself of sufficient importance to indulge in the luxury of a fire alarm telegraph, according to the Journal of that city.
CONDUCTOR JOHN BROWNING, of the I.- & St. L., for several days past severely ill, has recovered sufficiently to report for duty.—Indianapolis Evening News.
PROF. J. W. FOSTER, an eminent scien. tlst of Chicago, is in the city, the guest of Prof. Cox, State Geologist. Prof. F. has taken great interest in the mineral wealth of Indiana.—State-Sentinel.
THE Courier-journal displays a lamentable lack of knowledge of a great man, when it refers to the Hon. Robert "W. Thompson, of Terre Haute.
MR. CHRIS. RODERUS is to be one the hew managers of the Evening GAZETTE. He is a fine practical printer and a young gentleman of merit and good business qualifications.—journal.
TERRE HAUTE merchants are making fine displays of fall and winter goods The merry and cheerfuLJboHdays are approaching, when they will reap a bountiful harvest. .• r*
THE Courier-Journal manifestsabout as lamentable a lack of knowledge in speaking of the State of Indiana, geographically, a8 of her great orator, as the Hon. Robert W. Thompson.
MRS. ELIZABETH, wife of Mr. Lou Townsend died yesterday afternoon aged S7 years. Deceased has long been a suflent team consumption, which impaired bar happiness and usefulness, because she would notrest content when not engaged in some kind act, whereby not palyber bnsb&nd and family but haj&a£ 'inge&ere^

Have we an insurance syndicate in TerreHaute? *":s fV Madame Peschka-Ijeutnfer .did riot visit Chicago. The Post of that city therefore speaks of her as an "operatic howler imported by Gilmore."—TitusvUle Press.
A youth in town don't like rice, because his step-mother's maiden name was Rice.
Ike Brown, late of the Sullivan Union, may see fit to coipe to Terre Haute .and establish a mammoth newspaper. We need a few more.
One of the surest indications of fall is to step on the dog'9 tail as you go near the stove, and find the old cat and her offspring calmly reposing on a loaf of bread set to rise by the stove.—Titusville Press.
Newspaper proprietors are delighted with the announcement in a fashion column of a New York paper, that ladies' bustles will be enlarged at the end of the month, by the addition of one more newspaper.
Young men who can not refrain from drink during a performance at the Opera House, should take a bottle in with them, and then they can drink at pleasure without disturbing the audience.
The exquisites who have been able to smoke fifteen cent cigars all stammer, because they did not wear socks, have now gotjto economize in other directions, have chillblains or else come down to "five centers" and a pipe.—Titusvil'e Press.
It is not true that "Small Talk,'1 of the Courier-Journal has leased his lower lip for a drop curtain to the mammoth cave.
The County Property.
We understand the County Property on Court street was sold yesterday to Messrs. Foster Brothers fer $24,000 and accrued interest for the time it has been owned by the county, making the total amount paid for the same nearly $31 000.
The price paid is regarded as a big one and men posted on real estate affairs consider this sale as a good move for the best interests of the county. —Fort Wayne Gazette.
Fort Wayne real estate must be on the rise if the property alluded to by the GAZETTE is that which Mr. D. N. Foster of this city sometime since informed us the firm were negotiating for. The lot is unimproved and is 'but 80 feet frontage, though running through from one street to another. If the firm improve it in the same proportion as the purchase price the members thereof must be flush,
Lou MARTIN, of the Savings' Bank while in the country, went hunting. His first exploit was the shooting of a crow which went sailing over the old resorvoir near Saline. Lou thought it was a duck until he brought the biped home and prepared it for culinary purposes. Upon learning that he had killed a crow in stead of a duck, he laid the caw-cas' away in the refrigerator, and, in company with a few select friends, will mas ticate with rare relish, next Tuesday.
WE publish to-day an interesting letter from our valued Sullivan correspondent, in which, among other items of interest he informs the reading public that Mr. Isaac Brown has sold the Union, newspaper, to Mr. Coulson, who will henceforth control its destinies. Mr. Brown win return te Terre mute »ua ir au opportunity presents will enter into the business here,, we presume. Welcome, thrice welcome.
DICKOUT, the popular and well known trunk manufacturer, has secured the patent for Western Indiana, of the New port patent combination trunk, something not only novel, but of great value to the traveling public, especially.
But we cannot describe it, hence re frain from the attempt at this time.
THOSE Indianapolis resurrectionists have come to light in the persons of several enterprising, though sacreligious, young medical students, who were badly frightened by the condemnation heaped upon them by the city press. They will probably abandon their chosen calling.
WE find the following in the columns of the Fort Wayne Gazette: Miss Laura Keene will be assisted in her coming entertainment by Miss Clara Stella, the young American prima donna, Sig. G. Morosini, pianist to the King of Italy, and W..H. Pope, the gifted reader.
We weep for the audience that notice attracted.
THOMAS STEWART, Esq., one of the oldest residents of this county, died at his residence, near the city, yesterday morning, in the sixty-second ydffr of his age. He spent over 'half a century of that time in this county, having come here from Ohio. Consumption was his ailment.
MR. G. W. HENRY, representing the mammoth wholesale establishment of Thompson, Henry & Co., of Chicago and St. Louis, was in the city, and in company with Conductor Penn, of the Terre Haute A Chicago Railroad, favored the GAZETTE with a call, last evening.

ELECTION NEWS. Arrangements have been made with the P. & A. Tel. Co. to furnish returns on Tuesday evening as fast as secured, and they will be read from the stage of the Opera House, so that parties can enjory the play and get the news at the same time.
MR. AND MRS. JUDSON BUTTON will return to Terre Haute to-morrow, and enter upon the new life, at the present paternal mansion of the groom, North Fifth street. In the Spring they will have them a house built on tbe same street.
Miss JENNIE BLAUMELT returned to her home in New Jersey last afternoon, having enjoyed a protracted visit with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. aud Mrs. D. N\ Foster, North Fifth •treet. .. ..
WE were mistaken in the firm name of the barber and bathing establishment, alluded to in our issue of yesterday. It should have been Garrett Berkshire instead of Garrett & Berkshire.

THE effort of old Doc. Sherrod in this city Tuesday night in behalf of tbe Grantites so far disgusted the Democracy that we donbt if the O'Conor ticket gets one vote in the corporate limits at the election next Tuesday. All parties require decency and honesty, and the Doc. being without either of these characteristics of course his influence will not amount to a plack of anuff io this local. ^.—JovarnuL
MRS. PARRY, the spiritualistic lecturer of this city, will speak in the interests of Grantism, at the Wigwam this evening. She will be escorted to the st&nd by the escort club. 1.1. I

Langrishe Comedy Company. The Langrishe Comedy and Burlesque Troupe, appeared at the Opera House, last night, and by tbe faithful rendition of the uncommonly fine bill, established themselves with the play-going public.as one of the most deserving combinatians that has ever appeared in our midst. The immense political demonstration doubtless kept many from attending who would otherwise have been present at the opening, but to-night we expect to see a full house, inasmuch as it will be the last opportunity but one that our people will have of seeing these universal favorites, their engagements elsewhere precluding a longer stay in our city. Of their performance last night we cannot speak at length, in consequence of the unusual pressure upon our columns, and indeed it is only necessary to say that they fully sustained their very enviable reputation.
TOWNSEND-In this city, on the afternoon of October 30, of Consumption, Mr-. Elizabeth, wile of Louis Townsend, aged 37 years.l
Her remains will be taken to Cincinnati for interment.
We understand that the combined sales of the five stores o* the popular dry goods and carpet house of Foster Brothers will be over one hundred thousand dollars for the month of October. This is all the result of liberal advertising aud the selling of the best goods the market affords at the same prices they retail them for at their store in New York City.— Fort Wayne Gazette.
We received by express this morning an entirely new, fresh line of elegant Cloth Shawls, in rare and beautiful col orings. If you wish to get a Shawl free from dusty edges, and of the very latest design, and at the recent great reduction in price, do not fail to get one of this new lot of ours. We have marked them from one to four dollars each lower than our former prices. Prices are $3, $4, $5, $7, $8 and $9. The last two lots are heavy and fine Reversable Imported Striped Cloth Shawls, and have, until recently, been sold for $12 and $15. 31dl FORSTER BROTHERS.
For a good shave go to Garrett Bershire, third door above Ohio. Hot and cold baths. 31tf
We never had such a clean, fresh, pretty stock of shawls as we have this, 31st day of October, 1872. Since cloth shawls were first made we have never sold them as low as now, not even when wool was much lower. We have just received a lot that we sold two weeks ago for $6.00, upon which our price now is only $4.50. Our $7.00 shawls we have made $5.00 our $8.00 ones $6.00. No dusty edged shawls in our establishment, but all new, clean and attractive. 31dl FOSTER BROTHERS.
After the 31st of October Dr. Williams' Office and Residence will be on cor. Sixth and Cherry streets. 30d3
At Cost or Less.—We have in our store the stock of goods of D. B. Otis, which must be sold regardless of cost. Also a full stock of goods usually found in a first class store. We- can beat the world on Boots and Shoes. He that doubts should call. GEO. A. HAYWARD & Co. oct30d3
