LAURA KEENE, Saturday night.

THE Swiss Bell Ringers are at Jackson, Michigan.

FOR first class binding, call at the GAZETTE ofliee.

THE Capital City is suon to be honored with a Woman's Convention.

THE reserve seats to the Laura Keene performance are sellingjrapidly.

THE elongated form of Ben Alberts towers over the bar of theTeutonia.

BRING your magazines to this office and have them bound cheap and nice.

DID you see those large letters on the bulletiu board on Sixth street, near Main?

THE new hat is a stunner, and is most appropriately surmounted with a pigeon wing.

MR. LAWRENCE P. BARRETT is playing au engagement at DsBarr's Opera House, St. Louis.

REAL estate transactions are frequent in this city and always indicate the rapid advances property is making.

THE loquacious local of a city paper snuffs the delightful aroma of orange blossoms, in the rosatte atmosphere.

S.R.HENDERSON lias returned from New York. "There is no place like home," is now the burden of his song.

REMEMBER tl.e German Greeley Club meeting to-morrow evening at Harmonia Hall. See notice elsewhere in this issue.

BERT WILKIN«, of Durkee's Ferry, thinks he has sixteen acres of corn that will average one huudred bushels to the acre.

A MAGNIFICENT streamer, on which is painted the name of "Laura Keene," floats proudly o'er the dome of the Grand Opera House.

THE Liberal Executive Committee of Indiana, convene at the Bates House, Indianapolis, this evening, members of the press included.

KASBERG & HA.NL.EY, corner of Fifth and Mulberry streets, are doing a good business in repairing and renovating mattresses. See local notice columu.

THE Hon. Thomas Nelson, the popular Minister to Mexico, is once more seen on the streets, and calling on his numerous friends in bis native city of Terre Haute.

POSTPONED.—It will be seen by an official notice in another column that the sale of the Court House and other property has beeu postpoued until further notice.

THE Journal learns that there were two Bourbon votes cast in this Congressional district one in Clay and one in Greene county, both of which were cast for Edgerton.

MINISTER N ELSON, son and two daughters arrived from Mexico with the remains of Mrs. Nelson, yesterday. The final funeral services will be duly announced.

POTATOES can be purchased from farmers' wagons for forty cents per bushel, and at the groceries for seventy-five "You pays your money and takes your choice."

THE ease of the State vs. Maggie Mulholleu iu which the defendant is charged with the larceny of a cloak, is on trial in the Criminal Court to-day. Davis for theState and Dunnigan for the defense.

A Good Investment.

In the Common Pleas Court to-day, the case of W. H. Lake, the dead animal man, vs. the City of Terre Haute is on trial. The plaintiff (Lake) claims that he lias sustained damages to the tune of $25,000 because the City Council (as he alleges) broke contract with him as dead animul man. The city, on the other hand, set up in defense that plaintiff failed to fulfill his part of the compact, and for that reason alone were the terms thereof annulled, and given tj another party. The case is on trial before a jury, His Honor John T. Scott on the Bench.

Messrs. McLean, Klizer and Kelley for Plaintiff", and Jlumsey for the defense. But why undergo the expense and loss of time incident to this trial. If the city could but be rid of the preseuce of the plaintiff, by paying his little twenty-five thousand dollar claim, why not pay it? We don't know that the city could make a better investment.

THE Indianapolis Sentinel of this morning says: The Terre Haute GAZETTE .crumbles at the Vincennes Sun for saving Terro Haute had sent down a batch of thieves and gamblers to the Knox Countv Fair, and adds: "Terre Haute did nothing of the sort her gamblers come and go at pleasure." That's just the matter complained of—allowing them to "come Jand go at pleasure." Why don't you arrest and punish them

As rapidly as they are arrested and punished, a fresh stock arrives in from Indianapolis.

THE Associatedjgress details a SGIL affair at New York yesterday. One of Mr. Grant's colts kicked out of the traces and kicked in the dash board, the valorous President, meanwhile, leaping for life. No sooner had he reached the ground than the omnipresent sycophants congratulated him on his narrow escape. It is feared that the President will meet with irreparable injury sometime if he don't exercise more care with his sore tail colts.

A JURY in the Common Pitas Court yesterday, decided that John Bui ton is not so much of a baby as not to be responsible for debts of his own contracting, when representing himself to be a man. Messrs. Mack and Dunnigan are going to the Supreme Court to get a decision that Johnny is not yet weaned. Meanwhile it would be well for the "colossal infant" to extract hisdiurnal nourishment from a bottle

THE Chicago Evening Mail, a paper independent of politics and partisan prejudices, asserts vere truthfully

The Liberals are not killed yet in fact, they are quite lively. Those who think they are killed will awaken to a full realization of their error about the 10th of November—provided the Bourbons do not allow the election to go by default.

SOMETIME since a city paper served up to its readers a sensational account of a serpent haunted printer imaginatively encountering a burglar in his apartment and firing several shots at his' own clothes banging on the sewing machine. The article was extensively copied, and has at last come forth in the illustrated newspapers of New York.

THURSDAY evening of this week the ladies of the Frist Presbyterian Church will give an oyster supper. See advertisement for particulars.

The ladies of this church are noted for their success in enterprises of this character, and we"4bespeak for them the liberal patronage they merit.

MR. HOI.FEL.DER, who has been running a restaurant in Printing House Square the past season, is also an actor of some considerable reputation in his native country, as is evidenced by the notices of the German press. He will take a benefit at the Opera House Monday night next.

THE Coroner's Jury in the Madison murder case found a verdict to the effect that deceased, W. H. Armstrong, came to his death from a gunshot wound, the weapon in the hands of a party to the jury unknown. The Grand Jury has t!e case under investigation at present.

IT IS said that "the mother of the Worrell sisters turned every diamond presented to her daughters into hard cash, and purchased property, which has quadrupled in value." This goes to show that lands ftre more valuable than diamonds.

IT IS a matter worthy of note that nearly all the torches of both political parties have been stolen during the campaign. It would be a blessing to *the community were they all stolen, if it would insure an abandonment of the nuisauce of torch processions.

WE have received from Messrs. Marston & Freeman, of Portsmouth, N. H., a copy of the first issue of the New Hampshire Oazetle, published October 7th, 1756, theoldest uewspaper on the continent,it is claimed by the present publishers,Messrs. M. & F., Portsmouth.

COPIES of Foster Brothers lust rated Journal of Fashions for the Fall and Winter of 1872, are being distributed throughout the city. Ladies find this publication iu point when consulting their purses for a new outfit.

WE were mistakeu in our issue of yesterday when we stated that Dr. Priest, of Green castle, had committed suicide as will be seen by reference to an article, from the Sentinel of this morning. Our informant believed himself correct.

DR. W. F. SHERWOOD, the emiueut Christian gentleman, etc., according to Mr. Grant's paper, will speak in this city iu the interest of our modern Gesar at uo distant day. The old "pillgariie" was formerlv a Democrat.

THE roof of the State Normal School building, located at this city leaks in some fifty places, it is said. Would it not be well to have this defect looked into by a Legislative committee, this winter?

IT IS a novel fact that the candidates for Circuit Prosecutor received the largest vote where unknown. For instance Sears run behind his ticket in Vermillion aud Brings in Vigo. ..

THE Terre Haute GAZETTE has discovered a new article—"eceutio Lnk."—State Sentinel.

Carmine was written. .*

A DISTRESSING rumor comes up from New York to the effect that the great prima donna?, Clara Louisa Kellog and Pauline Lucca, leading stars iu the great Italian operatic company of Maretzek, are jealous of each other, and their friends are organizing into two separate factions and preparing foractive hostilities on the first visible outbreak.

Wonders iu the Healing Art.—Among the recent cases treated by Dr. Darrin, the great Magnetic Healer at the Terre Haute House, we mention the following cases who have received lasting benefit Mrs. W. H. Bennett, corner of Thirteenth and Ohio .streets, hip disease, catarrh and dyspepsia Mrs. E. Clemm.n-i, corner Eleventh and Mulberry, rheumatism 16 years M. Hart, corner Fifth and Cherry, inflammation of the eyes two years P. B. O'Riley's girl, north Fifth street, St. Vitus dance. It will be lemembered that Judge Conover aud wife, of Greei Casue, were cured two years ago by Dr. Darrin. The former of gravel of six years standing, and the latter of an eating cancer and inflamed eyes of ten years duration. Mr. Conover's son resides in this city aud can be referred to in reference to the cures of his father and mother. Dr. Darrin remains but a few days longer, therefore those requiring bis treatment will do well to consult their interests of health by trying what magnetic hands can do lor them. Examination free.

Xotiee.—The sale of the county property is adjourned until further notice. J. H. BLAKE,
