MINSTRELS to-morrow night.

THE public schools opened agaiu this morning.

THERE were four accessions to Asbury Church last evening.

WAGNER'S Minstrels at the Opera House to-morrow night.

A SICKLY jollification, that of Saturday night, at the Wigwam.

THE Indianapolis Journal has discovered a husband beater in that city.

BLOCK COAL is fourteen cents a bushel Give us a narrow gauge railroad to the coal fields.

THE flre alarm telegraph wires are being suspended from buildings throughout the cily.

TOWN TALK, it :s said lost heavily on Browne, hence his advice to the people not to bet on the election.

FOKEPAiron'sMenagerie is en route to Connorsville, this State, where they go into winter quarters, as usual.

A STATE exchange says that Forepaugh's meuagerie has been creating a hurricane of enthusiasm all over the country.

AN enterprising Indianapolitan has sesured the Cardiff Graut, and will exhibit the srtifijlal monstrosity at the Revere House, that city, to such idiots as have more money than brain.

PRINCESS GRANT is to return home on the Scotia, says "Jenkins" of the Associated Press. This important event should be jollified by the subjects of her Royal father in this city.

THE ecstatic editor of the Brazil Miner goes into hysterical bawling over the result of the recent election in Clay county. His little Miner fairly slops over with hip hip hurras and other d—n nonsense, as Lord Dundrery would put it.

REV. W. W. CURRY, Republican candidate for Secretary of State, ran a long ways ahead of his ticket, which would indicate that Mr. C. is popular with the masses. We congratulate our [ellow-cit-izen.

EUGENE BREUNIO, well known as a panderer to the public appetite in the line of the best of bivalves and other delicacies, has opened a restaurant on Main street, under the clothing establishment of Miller A Cox.

THE JOURNAL building was rocked by an earth quake shock Saturday afternoon about half past two o'clock, so we are informed in the local columns thereof. Several newspaper offices suffered a shock of similar character but a few days previous!

THE business in passengers and freights along the line of the Cincinnati A Terre Haute Railroad, so far as completed, is improving daily, the latter alone being retarded on account of the scarcity of freight cars, we leani from Mr. John S. Don ham, of Cory.

A ORKAT deal of profanity has been occasioned among river men at Evansville, because of a sand bar in the Ohio river at that point. A mammoth dam is now being constructed, which will cause the channel tochange across the obstruction, fand was hit out. Henceforth, it may be that Evansville will be a more moral city.

THERE is a published call for a meeting of the stockholders of the Evansville & Crawfordsville R. tQ paeet in Evansville on the loth inst. At that meeting thirteen Directors are to be chosen for the ensuing year. If mistakp pot the city of Terrj Haute hQlds^toak in tjie ro«d to the amount of Mrn?ihing over $60,000.

A

RADICAL JOLLIFICATION.

Spoochrs by Messrf. Edwards, Thompson and Curry.

jfr. Gram's Escort and Fire-Works.

Since the election returns of the State have been coming in, the Radicals have been feverish with anxiety as to the general result. Judging by the result in Pennsylvania and Ohio, a similar result was expected, though slightly doubted in Indiana. Having a little money left, however, they ordered S. R. Baker to get in readiness his fire-works and the Graut Guards to prepare for marching orders. Meanwhile Filbeck and Stephens filled and trimmed the lamps, and small boys were supplied with holliday horns and instructed to make the air melodious when the proper time should arrive.

By Saturday night the office-holders had their courage screwed up to the sticking point, and after some hesitating gave orders for carrying into execution the pre-arranged programme, which was done, though mildly.

A small and mournful squad of Grant Guards marched through the streets a short time, as did a number of infantile musician with tin horns. Rockets went up from a hastily constructed stand, corner Sixth and Ohio all of which after a while attracted a crowd that filled the Wigwam about two-thirds full.

When this mournful mass had ceased shivering with the cold and chilly blasts that whistled through the Wigwam, lamp trimmer Filbeck called the meeting to order, and introduced Col. W. K. Edwards, as Chairman, who made a triumphant speech, duly heralding his own victory, closing his remarks by introducing Col. Thompson, who made a short speech, giving way to W. W. Curry about midnight. The latter gentleman talked to the audience for a short time, and then the meeting adjourned*

The above may be a tame report, but how could it be otherwise, the jollification was a very tame affair.

DEMISE OF A MISER.

Fifty

A Rolling Mill Hand Dies Worth Thousand Dollars. Saturday afternoon Rev. James Hill, of Asbury M. E. Church, was summoned to the death bed of one of the rolling mill hands, at a boarding house near the nail works. Reaching the house, Mr. Hill found the sick man suffering from typhoid fever and flux, and soon saw that the patient was not long for this world. The kind-hearted gentleman did all he could to spiritually comfort the sick one, who proved to be a Welshman named Thomas Evans, of Pittsburgh, but he was nigh unto death's door and was rapidly declining. Last night he breathed his last and those who had attended him in his last sickness and who were his friends in health, opened his trunk, to their surprise finding unmistakable evidence of the wealth of the deceased, being not less than $50,000, consisting of bank accounts, money loaned on securities of various, kinds and farming lands. Evidences were also found that led to the belitf that he has a wife in Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania, from whom he has been separated for some time, whether legally or not is yet a mystery. His funeral occurs from the boarding house alluded to, at 3 o'clock to-day.

The history of the life of the deceased is one of mystery, he being worth an ample competence, and a common day laborer in a business that can but be very laborious. His hands were blackened and hardened, showing beyond a doubt that he had long been engaged in this avocation. He could not have been more than 35 years of age, from the best we can learn. If Pittsburg papers will make a note of this they may confer a great favor on the wife aud friends of deceased.

THE Express, of this morning, has a great deal to say about a "dodger" that was issued on Saturday evening, calling it a "dirty, lying thing." There was not a vulgar word in it, or a word that was untrue. Our information of the postponement of the jollification was received from W. W. Curry and Capt. I. L. Mahan, and we are satisfied that they told the truth. There was no intention of having a meeting until that "dodger" was circulated, then the couriers were started in every direction to notify the faithful, carpenters were put to work to erect a platform for the fire-works display, a few dozen tin horns were purchased, and the "fizzle" went on. The "dodger" was intended to harm no one, but as a joke upon the "Bads." for having announced a jollification, and their postponing it on account of the bad n^ws they had received.

DR. DARRIN, the magnetic healer, is holding levees and receptions of a curative character at the Terre Haute House daily, Sundays excepted. Having previously held forth in our city, and having left legitimate fruits of bis skill, it is not necessary that any extensive press notice be taken of his presence. The sick and afflicted but need to know that he is here to give him a call. Therefore, we announce that he is even now at the Terre Haute House, where he will be happy to see his old aquaintances whom he has cured, that he may congratulate tbeui, and new patients that he may heal them.

THE official Indianapolis organ of the Indiana Bourbons—the Journal—thus sums up the great Bourbonistic reaction against Greeley:

Up to this time the Edgerton ticket has beeu shown to have recoived over one cuindrod votes throughout the State, and they are distributed throughout fiftoen or sixteen counties only. In Cass county Mr. E. received 37 votes, and in Wells county 11. So far the temperance ticket, with Falkinburg at its bead, has received but oight votes.

Thus it will be seen how.this insignificant side-show comes out. This may be considered a fair augury for the November election and the relations of the Bourbons thereto.

LAST evening, at the parsonage of Asbury M. K. Church, Rev. James Hill joiued with the pilken bands, etc., Mr. John Romine aud Miss Amauda Gregg, both of this city. They at once repaired to their newly fitted up and furnished mansion. Thus do they commence married life in sensible style. They and their parents are all wgll-knqwn in this City. c/. -4,
