THE crops along the line of the L., C. fc S. W. R. R. could not well be better thau they are this season.
WE are not surprised that the Bourbon of the Journal is mad yet. The doleful dog days are not yet ended.
A SILVER band is what the organ calls it when engaged to play for a Grant meeting. At other times, a brass band.
MR. CURRY could probably get employment at Long Branch, as one of Grant's hostlers. He could Curry Grant's horses, you know.
II. RYCE, ESQ., his estimable wife and their accomplished artist companion, are having a nice time at Swampscott, Massachusetts.
M. J. VIURA, has purchased the Hair Establishment of F. J. Medina, and will continue the business at the old stand, uSTo. 5, Beach's Block, over Ryce's store.
WHITE hats are more in vogue than any and all others, at Frankfort, Clinton county, since the Baltimore Convention, when a general bonfire was mqfle of about all other kinds.
THE Express is much more interesting for the last two days than it has been for some time. It is pubiishing the JawrnaVs editorial matter. It might increase its circulation in this way, not otherwise.
SOME of our ministers have great confidence in their cougregations hence legve them exposed to the wiles of the wicked one while they themselves sojourn at points where the breezes blow more briskly than on the Wabash.
YOUNG ladies who promenade our streets, these balmy days, on the plea that they "are out to take the sun," must not be understood as referring to that glorious orb

which gives light by

GRANTITES say they hope the Journal may continue in its present course, as it would benefit their party more than if it came square out iu favor of Grant. We are of the opinion that they place a higher estimate ou its influence than the facts warrant.
Miss FANNIE J. KEIXOGG is with Mr. and Mrs. Ryce, enjoying the sea breezes, these sultry days, about twelve miles from Boston. After attending several of the Jubilee concerts, with the most rapturous delight, she has settled down to close study in her profession, under one of the best music teachers in Boston, who speaks in high praise of her capabilities, and says she promises to become one of the brightest st*r§ jn the great galaxy

Through the courtesy of Mr. George Farrington, we were shown through & couple of the most gorgeous parlor coaches ever introduced on any railroad. Of course they were of the Pullman pattern, and manufactured expressly for the Vandalia. In magnificence and elegance of internal arrangement, and external appearance, these two coaches, appropriately named Vestus and Juno, have never been excelled, if equalled. Each coach is divided off into compartments, and furnished finer than any parlor in this city, or elsewhere, for that matter. The wood-work is most tastefully carved and veneered the floors are carpeted with the finest of body Brussels. Every pannel of the woodwook is supplied with an elegant mirror. The chairs are upholstered with the best of plush, and by workmen who understand their business. Close to each chair is placed a Britania spittoon for tobaccochewing gentlemen and gum-chewing ladies—if such there be. Instead of the common faucet on the water tank, the water in the wash-room must necessarily be pumped from the reservoir, thus preventing the basins "slopping over," because of careless persons leaving them run.
The windows of these coaches are as magnificent as* mirrors when they are raised a wire screen is let down in their stead, which keeps out the dust.
These gorgeous coaches were inspected by Mr. Peddle, and accepted. They will be run between Indianapolis and St. Louis.
The Bucliolic Bacchanalian Bully. The young Aihericau bucholic bachanalian bully was on his travels yesterday. He entered the fine parlor car of Conductor Broad well, of the L. C. & S. W. line from away station, bound for the circus at Darlington. He carried a bottle of benzine under his capacious coat, and thunder in his countenance. He drained the benzine from the bottle to the dregs he cast his accounts out at the window, was interviewed by a big brakesman, who ested that he was in a coach and not pig pen. The bucholic bully waxed wroth, and the soberer he got, the madder he got, until he concluded he owed the brakesman a larruping the brakesman insisted that he did not owe him any such a thing, and finally, firmly, though forcibly, convinced him that the debt was considered cancelled. The b. b. b. then got off at Darlington, and was soon happy in the circus.

Journalistic and Personal. AVhile in Frankfort, yesterday, we called at the Banner and Crescent newspaper oflQices. Mr. Meredith, editor of the former, we failed to find. However, we did find Mr. E. H. Staley, a distinguished educator of the State, now managing editor of the Crescent, a handsomely printed and spirited publication. Mr. Staley wields a pen with great vigor, and in such a manner that it stings an opponent more keenly than a two-edged sword, judging from the two copies we have.
supporter of the Chappaqua chopper. The paper is one of the best weeklies in the State, represents the spirit of enterpJise of the city where printed, and deserves well of the people.

THE Evansville Journal thinks it is entirely Democratic for a Common City Council to give the city printing to the organ of their party, regardless of lower bids. This is not purely Democratic. The City CJpuncil of Terre Haute are all Grantites and give the city printing to their organ, though it can be done better and cheaper in the same city, and would be if given out by bidsT
The Journal need not charge that principle on the Democrats.

To the Public.—We have seen many inventions in our travels—many of what the world would scarcely get along without but we have never seen one of greater utility than the little peach stoner and cutter that Grimes & Royse have for sale. This little machine cuts and stones the cling-stone peach better than can possibly be done with the knife, and does as much one hour as can be done in ten hours with the knife and then the peaches are worth double, or nearly so, what they are when cut in the ordina.y way. With this machine it is a pleasure for the ladies to can and preserve, as well as dry their peaches. Any person who will take hold of this machine and put it in the market, cannot but make money. A word to the wise is sufficient.
