FRIDAY, MAY 31, 1872.
Politics in Illinois.
While at Springfield the latter part of lant and the first of this week, we took pains to feel the political pulse of the peo pie, and were greatly gratified to find the almost united sentiment of Democrat^ and liberal'y inclined Republicans in favor of the nominees and platform of the Cincinnati Convention. All who favor good government are willing to compromise party and personal prefer ences on the basis of reform and consequent correcting of abuses in the gen eral gover' ment. Liberal Republicans are willing fo concede to the Democracy^ individual support and in&uence on th£ State ticket if required, only asking iri return, hearty support of the National ticket and platform as set forth at Cincinnati. Both parties see the necessity of concessions, end are entirely harmonious as to men and measures, having in view the public 'goocTaTfrjie.
Tribune
and the
State Per/ister,
published at
Sprinpfield, are enlisted and united 011 a1 measure of public interest, the success of that measure comes to be-lessrdoubtjCijl, day by day. The only Democratic paper in tho State of any circulation worth speakiflgof that opposes the Cincinnati nomination and platform is !'the Chicago
Times,
which is 'pwaed
and controlled by one jndiVldXidil and is noted as being a sheet-thatoa!n be bought and has no real influence iti framing principles and forming puBlic opin 011.

that the
Democracy of Harri:on county, met in delegate conveutlou, May 25, Peter Zrnor, President, Wra. W. Kentner and A. W. Brewster, Secretaries. The following nominations were made:
Wm. H. Pfrinimer. for Representative John Ridley, forDerk Silas Cravdon, for Sheriff Alfred D. Singer and Martin V. Hxrcer. Commissic^nors. Hon. Simeon K. Woife was then loudly called for,to which call he responded in a short a,ble.speech, defining his position to be in favor of a straight Democratic national ticket", but he was willing to abide the deoisiAh ahd' wisdom of the arreat Democratic party. If they endorsed the nomination of Horace Greeley he would support the nouainatkn without ft moment's hesitation.
Though Mr. Wolte is and has been a life long mocrat, he is entirely willing to make concessions as an individual/or the good of the country.
The va£t volume of truth in the following short and pungent paragraph fr »m the Greeneastle Press, will be? httfhly appreciated here:

The fact is, we-Democrats, as things now hang, must yield to the chariot wheels of destiny. The people want, peace. tains some sarcastic raillery at your correspondent. This is the only kind of argument? that superanuated Bourbon sheet has been able to advance to convince those opposed to fighting the dead issues of the past over a&rain that they «re wrong. It sneers at those who canndt see in Mr. Voorhees all that is great, noble and wise, and denounces those as dishonest and unprincipled who show a disposition to abide by the decision of the Baltimore Convention, whether that decision be for a straight-out Democrat or Horace Greeley. It thinks it fortunate that Mr. Voorhees was out of town when your correspondent's communication appeared in the GAZETTE a few days ago. So it was fortunate in 18(S that the news of his treachery reached tbis city Ion a before the honorable gentleman himself, else he might have beenudfecomfitted"by tho jiatnn* and curses heaped upon him by ionie Democrats who are qow his greatest champions and admirers.
