Last night about half-past ten o'clock a well-known citizen of this place, of the name of Andrew Watson, a plasterer by profession, was knocked down, by the Mate of the boat Phoenix, named Benjamin Barrett, and robbed, he alleges, of some $200. This occurred about_ten o'clock, on Ohio street, between First and Second. The fact was reportedt at police headquarters, and Deputy Marshal O'Mara went in search of the pernor of the outrage. He succeeded fl»d.ng him at a Ho""* of 111 fame, kept ky a woman named Sue. Garvin, and in tad. This was about four o'clock this morning. O'Mara immediately arrested- and took the highwayman to the Station House, where he discovered him in the act of chewing up $20 in immey and throwing the same in a vault. Upon being interrogated by Mr. O'Mara he admitted the act of knocking down, and acknowledged that he took from Watson's person $96 in money. He further confessed to the officer alluded to above that he,placed $76 of the money taken, in the sand under an old barge near the river bank. Mr. O'Mara left Barrett in custody, repaired to the spot designated, and there found the amount specified.
This morning, the accused was taken before the Mayor, plead guilty to the charges preferred, and was held to bail in the «um of $400, in default of which he was sent to jail to await the action of the courts.
Patent Freckle Exterminator. A female, giving her name as Ellen, bullivan, called at a South Third street residence, yesterday, and offered foe sale a preparation which she alleged would remove freckles from the feminine physiognomy with facility and dispatch. The lady of the house did not care to invest, not being affected in that way. The vendrtS3 of the only simon-pure and unadulterated freckle annihilator and exterminator waxed warm and wroth when the lady suggested that the article was a humbug. She talked naughty, verily nasty talk for a woman to indulge in, in the presence of alady. -She even seized a chair, and made a desperate at tempt to annihilate the lady herself to illustrate the efficacy of the remedy, the merits of which she wished to set fbrth. She succeeded in creating freckles on the door and divers articles about the premises. For all this the gentle Ella was locked up in the Station
House all night fin«d before the Mayor this morning, and remanded to the Station House in default of fine.
Bishop Bowman.
It gratifies us to announce that Rev. Dr. Bowman, the well-known and cour teous divine who has hitherto presided over the destinies of Asbury University at Greencastle, in an executive capacity, was yesterday morning made a Bishop in the M. E, Church, by the National Conference of that powerful and influential denomination, now in session in Brooklyn. This wa3 a distinguished honor conferred on a distinguished gentleman, who will grace the position with the dignity which has characterized his long-life services in the ministry of his beloved fitith. He brings to the discharge of the duties of the trust reposed in him by his church, schollarly attainments aud ripe experience attained by but few men on this mundane sphere. If his career as Bishop is as grand and enobling as has.been his course as executive bead of a great institution of learning, he well be an honor to the State, the church and the nation.

Mr. E. Fisher, late an engineer of the Cincinnati & Terre Haute Railroad, is now occupying a similar position on the Indiana & Illinois Central, with bead* quarters at Montezuma, the point where the line will cross the' Wabash. Mr. Fisher will reside iw this city, having just removed into the residenee recently occupied by Max Wood, on Eight street, between E.igFe and Chestnut.
He says there can be no reasonable doubt but that the building of this lon^ deferred line will be proceeded with at a rapi'i rate, henceforth,

And now, an illiterate, impertineut and inquisitive cotemporary wants to know who in the blazing brimstone is this man Briggs, to whom Dan Voorhees addressed his second explanation.
