Tbe audience which greeted the won derful tragedienn^®» Ja&atjschek, at the Grand Opera Hous l®8' night, while in the highest order appreciative and intelligently critical in main, was not near so large as her -great genius and towering talent should -have called out.
The play selected and presented was Mary Stuart, and was faultlessly rendered so far as Madame Jana»sebek herself was concerned, while her company in support were far above the average traveling troupes. The popular come dian, Mr. DeGroat, is with the company and did all in the power of a natural born comedian to look and appear tragic, resulting in the most comic facial expressions of the tragic art, which would provoke a smile from those who knew him so well as a comedy artist, despite their most determined efforts to appear solemn. When Janauschek was on the stage, however, all eyes were turned to her and fixed on her every motion and facial expression, while every mind of any depth or feeling," was bearing on her acts. Madame Janauschek has certainly earned the great name and fair fame which she enjoys as Queen of tragedy. Her "Mary Stuart" is the grandest and truest impersonation of the character, and bearing of the proud
Queen of Scotts, within the conception of the historian or the dramatist. Could the writer of the play himself but witness her impersonation, we doubt not that he would pronounce his ideal of the character perfectly presented. In the scene where Queen Elizabeth is denounced as unworthy tbe royal hours of the .English nation, the Queen of Scotts, though a prisoner in Elizabeth's power, rises to the sublimest bights of indignation, if that passion could at all be truthfully alluded to as sublime. In the scene where the proud though humble Queen is bidding farewell to her servants, prior to her execution, the acting last night was very affecting.
The part throughout was sustained up to the fullest measure of artistic acting, and won for the gifted genius-endowed lady round on round of applause, which rung out from orchestra to gallery.
To night, "Chesney Wold," from Dickens' Bleak House, apiece never presented in this city.

Then one ot them moved out for some reason or other, and the two mater familias enjoyed a delightful family row yesterday afternoon, on which occasion the vilest epithets were freely used,- and life threatened. Oue of the parties had possession of the yard and garden, the latter seeming to be the "bone of contention," and after the fierce encounter of words had subsided, doubtless slept on the field of action. Her opponent left, vowing vengeance of dire death, interspersed with dubious d—ns. No blood spilled as yet of which we hawe heard.

He refers to the fiend who threw a stone through the window of his residence this morning about half-past three o'clock, which came very near striking his child, the "pet of the household." He knows of no one whom he has offended, and hereby publicly proclaims the perpetrator of this flagrant outrage as a coward and a sneaking villain, if he will not come out and acknowledge that he did it.

he has at last been placed in a predicament of perplexity out of which he sees no chance for his versatile genius to lead him. Several months since he secured a couple of white mice, and thought them the prettiest pets in existence. To-day his house, his barn and woodshed are all full of little white mice, notwithstanding the fact that he has employed a legion of trustworthy street Arabs to drown the immaculate petite rodents in the surging waters of the Wabash. Tom wants a few rats for a change, and we have proposed to "swap" calamities with him, hence will exchange rats for mice.
