Yesterday "I was just as happy as a big sunflower," but to-day "My heart is full, can hear it beat." I feel like saying "I'm a broken-hearted milkman." "Listen to my story!" "I knew a little widow." Her name was "Sweet Evalina'" and she was the only daughter of "Old Grimes, that good old man." "We met by chance"—"'Twas in the early spring time," less than "A hundred years ago," "In the cottage by the sea" (Long Branch). "'Twas a calm still night," when the stars, "Beautiful stars," slione in the "Happy home above," that I met "Sweet Evalina," "This dark girl dressed in blue." "Sweet Evalina" was "Sitting on the stile" watching "A bold sailor boy," as he sang "A wet sheet and $ flowing sea" in his "Home on the rolling deep. "She was a handsome creature, and she wore a waterfall." If "Champagne Charley" "had seen her "Walking down Broadway," lie would have said "O, she is such charmer." "As I met this little widow" "Shecast a side glance and looked down." "Art thou 'Dreaming, still dreaming,' 'Sweet Evelina,' asked her father, 'A fine old English gentleman." 'My heart is over the sea,' father, replied the unhappy daughter, 'My lovyer is a sailyer boy'—'I can not live always' single, and 'I should like to marry.' 'Sweet one,' "What are the wild waves saying,' asked 'Old Grimes.' "When I listen to the "Shells of the ocean,' father, I fancy I hear them say, •Paddle your own canoe,' but I prefer to have somebody paddle it for me." 'If I was only married, coutinued Evelina 'I'd be gay and happy,' "In a trot in the valley I love.' "'Sweet Evelina,'" I said, "I'm a young man from the country,' and 'I "have no one to love none to caress me!'

Wilt thou 'Come to my mountain home' —'Come and be my bride?' '•'Yes, I should like to marry,"' replied 'The beautiful dreamer,' "but 'My first love,' 'Captain Jinks,' 'I never can forget.' "'Won't you tell me why, Robin?' I interrupted, as I took from her hand 'The last rose of summer,' 'Tis but a little faded flower,' 'Give, O give it me.' 'Ask me not why, Eli,' she replied, then saying, 'Tis all for thee,Valid she handed me the rose and asked, 'Will you love me then as now?' "'With

a'l

my heart I love thee,' I

replied, "'I would call thee mine own,' 'I am fancy free,' 'The girl I left behiud me,' 'She has learned to love another,' and how, 'Sweet Evelina,' 'You can live in my heart and pay no rent.' "I cau not think 'You're fooling me,'" she replied, and then smiling, ('That bright smite haunts me stilt,') said, 'You'd better be oft with the old love before you're on the new.' 'Yes, Eli,' she continued, 'Can you say,' 'Good-by sweetheart,' to 'Kitty Clyde,' 'Nellie Bly,' 'Annie Laura,' Nellie Gray,' 'Blueeyed Mary,' and 'Widow Machree, and let them all go 'Up in a balloon' for me "Yes, dearest, 'Loving, I trust in thee,' I replied, 'I will be true to thee' as 'Old t)og Tray.' O, 'Sweet Evelina,' 'I never could prove false to thee,"' I sobbed, and theu said, 'Come, O, come with me, 'and leave 'The old folKs at home.' 'When the swallows homeward fly,'" I continued, "'Wilt thou 'Come to the little brown church?' 'Breathe softly, Eli,' said Evelina. 'Can't you 'Wait for the wagou?' "No, 'My dark girl dressed iublue 'Come haste to the weddiug,' 'You shall be the merriest girl that's out 'Thou art so near, and yet so far.'

Evelina fell into a trance. 'Sleeping I dream love,' dream love of'Auld Lang Syne,"' she murmured in her sleep. Then taking out her handkerchiefshe exclaihied, 'O, ye tears."' Then she continued, 'I will otter thee this hand of mine,' if "Thou will love me then as now.' "And send off" 'Dandy Jim,' 'Champagne Charley,' 'Pat Malloy,' 'Ben B».lt,' •Old in Tucker,' and all 'Th*e Boys in Blue?"' "No, no," exrlaimed»'Sweet Evelina," 'Not Joseph,' you ask too much. 'How I love the military you may 'John Auderson,' but I can not give up up'Captaiu Jiuks,' 'O, the Captain with his whiskers,'for 'H« was a nandsome man.'" "'False one?'" I shrieked, looking out on the 'Murmuring sea," "'How can I leave thee?' 'When thou'rt gone from my gaze like beautiful star,' and I am wondering'Where are the hope9 that I cherished,' 'You will think of me?!" I asked. "Yes, 'I'm leaving thee in sorrow,' and 'I'll thiuk of thee,' she said as she tripped, 'Lovely as a nfce,' 'Along the ln*ac'' at Long Branch,' humming 'Then nf II remember me.' "Tnen, 'Sweet Evelina,' I said, "I must say, 'Swt et love, good night to thee,' 'Ye soft blue eyes, jrood night!' 'I can not sing the old songs* for 'My heart is lonely now. 'With my heart'bowed down,' I thought I thought 'It is better to laugh thau be sighing, for 'We may he happy yet.'' Than dropping in at the

Novel Breach of Premise Suit. A suitfor breach of Contract of a rather novel character |9 now pending li} one of

the Vermont courts. In effect, a gentle maiden sues a ma»for promising to buy her and then refusing to fulfill his eontract. It seems that the lady had a farm which the man wanted to purchase. She offered the property and herself for $20,000, and refused to sell separately. He accepted the terms, paid the money, obtained the title deeds of the land, and was so well satisfied with his bargain that he insisted on her keeping the rest of the purchase herself. She did not appreciate his magnanimity, and insisted on his marrying her. He declined, and now she has sued him for a breach of contract.

Delicate Creatilres.—This is the phrase applied by his blackness, the Moor of Venice, to the fair ladies of Italy. It was the lovely complexion of Desdemona such a radiant contrast to his own, that won his heart and sooth to say, every man of discernment considers a fair skin, like a sweet voice, "an excellent thing in woman." Now this is a charm which can be acquired. There is a healthful and odoriferous toilet article, known everywhere as HAGAN'S MAGNOLIA BALM, which literally transfigures a cloudy or sallow skin, suffusing the discolored face, neck, arms and bosom with a soft, pearly tinge, and imparting to the surface a smoothness and a gloss like that of polished marble. Instead of clog ging the pores, like the sticky enamels, or contracting them, and thus obstruct ing perspiration, like the astringent cosmetics, it cleanses the skin from all impurities and wonderfully- improves its texture. This peculiarity is particularly appreciated by our rural belles, who find that the coarseness and rougli»ess, which country air is apt to engender, are speedily removed from their faces, hands and arms, by this delightful preparation.

For the Renovation of tlie Hair!

The Great Desideratum of the* Age!

A dressing which is at once agreeable, healthy, and effectual for preserving the hair. Faded or gray hair is soon restored to its original.color and the gloss and freshness of youth. Thin hair is thickened, falling hair checked, and baldness often, though not always, cured by its use. Nothing can restore the hair where the follicles are destroyed, or the glands ftrophied or decayed. But such as remain can be saved for usefulness by this application. Instead of fouling the hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent the hair from falling ofl and consequently prevent baldness. Free from those deleterious substances which make some preparations dangerous and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a

HAIR DRESSING,

nothing else can be found so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not' soil white cambric, and yet lasts longer on the hair, giving it a rich glossy lustre and a grateful perfume.
