THE END OF ALL FLESH.
Finaleof a Den of Ferocious Lions. The telegraph reports contain an account of the loss, by the explosion of the steamer Oceanus, near Cairo, of a valuable cage of lions, which have figured quite extensively in the sensational for the past four years, together with their keej-er and performer, Frank Slate. In [Rochester, N. Y., on the night of July -i, 1307, Mr. Chas. White, the animal performer, was badly bitten by one of these brutes, confining him to his bed seven weeks. In the fall of 1869, the same lot was extensively advertised throughout the country as having been tossed overboard from a steamer on the Mississippi river, while Dr. Thayer's circus was exhibiting at Columbus, Ky. The next year the whole country was shocked with the startling news that while the band belonging to James Robinson's circus was parading through a little town in Missouri, the top of this same cage, upon which the band was riding, fell through, and the band, or at least half of them, were ate up blood-raw. The hoaxer made a mistake, and gave the date of the occurrence, which happened to fall upon Sunday, and as show people are strictiy moral, the idea of a show exhibiting ou Sunday was so thin that the story was soon contradicted. Last Summer thes£ animals comprised one of the features of Springer, Rosston & Henderson's Circus and Menagerie, which exhibited here last May, and had a litter of much admired cubs in'the 3age. Last winter, Mr. Charles Noyes engaged these animals for a tour through Texas. In Austin, while taking one of the lions out for a tableau car, the lion made its escape, and killed a horse, and frightened the biggest portion of the Texas Legislature, which had gathered around the canvas to see a loose lion. The lion was altogether too loose for them. The tour of Texas was made, and on April 1st, the animals were shipped from Shrevepftrt, Louisiana, on the Red Iliver, to St. Louis, Missouri, where they were expected to make a part of Jumes Robinson's Circus and Animal Show, now fitting out for California. They were brought to this country from England, and alter being exhibited to over three millions of people, figuring in almost every newspaper in America, aud decorating bill-boards with elegant illustrations all over the United States, are finally covered byjhe Tnuddy and' ever changing Father of Waters. Such is fame.— Toledo Jitfule, April U.
Intcrucoine Strife.
The Indianapolis Journal says: An internecine strife rages in the academic groves of Oxford, Oliio. Enterprising youths attending Miami University are wont, to cast amorous gla-tces at the fair maidens who are placed under the maternal care of Miss Peabody, and at the Oxford Female College. The youths aforesaid are not allowed any more liberties within Miss i'eabody's bailiwick than wen1 accorded to the donkeys that trespassed upon Miss B.'tscy Trot\vood's yrass plat. Divers complaints have'beeu made to the President and faculty of the University by the officers of Miss Peabody's school, but the President and professors, thinking, with Solon Shingle, that "boys will be boys," and that they were once boys themselves, were disposed to deal gently with the erring ones, and gave 110 (narked manifestations of wrathlul indigualion at their gallantries. Miss Peabody aud her faculty thereupon proceeded to "ignore the libertinesof Miami Univer.-ity because of their scandalous conduct"," and the rascals retorted by publishing in the Cincinnati papers a utory that Miss Peabody had eloped and married a widower of some seventy summers. This hoax has called out a card from Robert D. Norris, President of the Oxford Female College, who breaks a lance with the "libertines" and their backers in the following vigorous style "The secret of these and similar injuries is to be foiling with some libertines in Miami University. They have a special grudge at the President of Oxford [FemaleCollege aud the Principal of the Western Female.Seminary. They have been ignored by the faculties of these institutions because of their scandalous conduct, and their venom. Besides this, the faculty of the university refuses to diseipliue such fellows, even when convicted and fined by a jury. Repeated representations of these things have been made to them, but to no purpose. Hence until the Trustees of Miami University secure a President and faculty that will use prompt aud energetic government in the expulsion of such scoundrels, neither ladies, nor presidents, nor editors cau expect any proper protection in the premises. "ROBERT D. NORRIS,
Presideut Oxford Female College."
Douglass ou liraut. and Sumner. The colored men, as represented in their National Convention, have shown that their affection and esteem for Charles Sumner have not been weakened by the misrepresentations of the friends of personal government. "There is now," said Frederick Douglass, "a man sit Washington who represents the futnre, and is a nlajority himself—a man at whose feet Grant learns wisdom. That man is Charles Sutuner. I know them both. They are great men, but Sumner js steady. There is 110 flickering light."
If Douglass had said that Sumner was a man at whose feet Grant might- learn wisdom, he would have expressed himself more correctly. The Maslachusetts statesman has been entirely ignored ever .since the iustallatiyu of the present-taker in the White House. His words of wisdom has been disregarded, aud his words of warning have been sneered at in a Presidential message as the ravings of disappointed ambition.
Noue of our Republican statesmen have been more unworthily dealt with bjT Grant thau Senator Summer and no true-hearted colored man cau consistently remain faithful to the later while he helps to revive the "flickering light" of the former.—N. Y. Sun.

The Khedive placed a palace at his disposal, but the hero of the great march preferred the simple accommoda tions of a little two-story auberge at Cairo. No stuff and nonsense about old Tecumseh. Swing him a hammock in the open air, with a good gingham awning to keep off the dews of heaven, and the stars and stripes for a bed-quilt, ajid for sound, refreshing slumber he will out snooze any pampered minion of royalty that ever cuddled in swans' down, or laid himself down to rest behind Silk embroidered curtains."
Vitalize the Hair.—Why does the hair become harsh and dry—why does it fall out—why does it become gray Simply because the life has gone out of it. The fibers draw sustenance fronfthe scalp as the grass draws aliment from the soil, and when the supply of nutrimeut is cut off, in either case, the product withers and dies. At the first symptom of decay, therefore, the unfed or half-fed roots of the hair should be refreshed and reinforced with LYON'S KATHAIRON, the only preparation which will nourish the filaments, and keep them in a vigorous condition after they have began to suffer from a deficiency of their natural stimulant. As long as the Kathairon is faithfully used, with a proper degree of friction, morning and evening, so long will it be impossible fot the hair to whiten or fall out from the scaip.
