The Baltimore American says There appeared a li \v dujs since at a hoarding house iu the southern *ec:ion of the city a natty looking youiiit and engaged hoard, hut was iufortxii'd by ihelaudltdy tli it ovi ini to a pressure upon her acmm (dations, she would he obliged to room the new comer witli one of her best hoarders until sucth titue as a spare room rould he had. To this the young man assented, but not without some reluctance, he statiiit th it lie preferied a room to him t*lr, but under the circumstances lie would room with the ''best b.^uder" for a few days.

The first night that the new boarder retired iorest he did so iu the ^rk, and insisted upon sleeping next to the wall, ami it was noticed hy the best boarder" that his chum occupied but little of the bed, sleeping as it Weie upon the rail. In themoiuing the new comer complained o! feeling unwell, and did not leave his bed until after bis lied fellow had vacated the room. For three nights this same programme was followed, and on the fourth moruimr a discovery was made by the chambermaid which created considerable excitement in the hoti-e, ami whiuh, when made known to the "best hoarder," paralyzed him with nstoni-hmetit.

On the morning in question the chamb* rma entered the room of the new boarder just as he was about adjusting sclothiufiand discovered that "he" was a "she." She now begged not to be exposed, but the chambermaid being un»b.e to retain within herself such a rich ke, especially after what had befallen the "best boarder," disc o-ed the secret which she had discovered, and upon the lady going iu quest of the bo^us young man it was found that she hud fled the hou-e. Since then it has beeii discovered that several articles of jewelry aud clothiug have beeu missing.

Mlsson's Cri.zy Lover Again. It will be remembered that one Chas T. Busc-li wa-confined in the Innatic »*-y luui, some five or six weeks ago, having been adjudged insane, on account of his annoying Mile. Nils-ion, hy entering her room at ilie Clureiid n, and hv aitempt itoir osculatory saluted. He had been in c.i rot* rated but a short time when the warden of the workhouse, discovering that lie was only a monomaniac on the su!j'jct of Nilssou's love, made him a messenger of that institution. He performed the duties incumbent on him faithfully, and gave general satisfaiMioi until lour or five days ug when lu was sent with a letter from Warden Keenan to the captain of the boat which pies between the city and the island under the auspices of the Commissioner-of Charities and Correction. The warden, after waiting two hours for an answer, concluded to seek for the delinquent. Every cranny and li'iok on the island was seaicued, but traces of the mi-sing isch w» re found. Tlie washtuhs were counted, but all were there save the one used some two months Ukjo by the mad youth who employed it to cross the swift and turbid current which separates the "island" from its neighbors. The boat was searched, but JJO stow-away was there, and as she had not left her moorings since Busch was last peen the mystery of his escape was deepened, and,- indeed, it has not yet I wen elucidated. Subsequently an ollieer was put upon the tr.tck of the e-caped prisoner. He searched th« city from end to end, and was about giving no his task as homeless when he heard, while standing in front of a house on North William street, sweet airs of 'Mignon' and 'Traviata,' for all the world such as he had listened to innumerable times as they were struck from the hand of the demented lover. He stepped closer to the window and peered in. There truly was IJusch, seated at the piano, running his tinkers nimbly over the keys, and weeping at his own melody. The arrest was made, Busch was again transplanted, but how he ever got away from the 'isiand' is a thing that, as Dundreary sav-, "no fellow can find out."— New York World.

From the Hartford Daily Times. Remor.-eless swindle.

Some years ago—we do not remember how many, but snppo.-e it to be ad zen there was a newspaper announcement about a man who had le a package of money at Eirle's Hotel (Eirle from Ilirtford,) then on Parke B. »w, New York, to he put in the safe for sale keepiUir, receiving for it the usual check from the clerk. Upon presenting his check, a day or two later, he could not »,et his package—the clerk was horrified to discover that it was missing. It happened that a check Dad been presented, which was an *»xact imitation of the cheek given hy the clerk, and on this bogus check the paekaue hail been, innocently enough, delivered to the person claiming it. The depositor brought a suit to recover $15,000, the alleged amount of the deposit leitat Mr.E trie's. For years the maiter was in litigation in the courts going from one tribunal to another, and keeping E irle on "i lie keen jump" (as Emerson has it.) The re-ult of all this has been that E irle had to pay the $15,000, and a good deal more besides, in the soape of interest money and expenses, amounting in all to no less a sum than $42,000. Tnis amount Mr. E. has paid in cash, to tattle tl is trouh e-ome job and now, having a lew months since paid the last installment and ended the uglymatter he received, a few weeks ago (ho was in town a day or two ago and told his friends of it), a package from Boston, inclosing a letter. The package was the identical original missing package from the safe—was identified as such —and with it were papers which have proved beyond a question that the actual amount deposited in the hotel safe was not $15,000, but only $500 and it also revealed that the depositor had a confederate, anil that the whole operation was a swindle and a robbery. A dupli cafe check was made, so like the other that there seemed to be no difference and the two rogues have doubtless divided the "swag" which the courts have decreed to the plaintiff. The note, which revealed these facts, was signed "Howard," with this interesting addition "A Cj/iscicftHons Scoundrel."

it full of living organisms not usually to be seen in. that substance. He at. once traced the cream to the particular cows which had given it, and found that they had been suffered to slake their thirst a stagnant pool located in a muddy swale. He theu tested some of the water and found it filled with the same organisms. He furthermore tested blood from these cows and lound the same filthy organisms, and upon mixing some of the water with milk, discovered that the organisms multiplied almost indefinitely In view of these facts it is not unreason able to suppose that persons partaking of this kind of milk are themselves liable to have their blood filled with these organisms, which in time produce sick ness and disease. The matter is, at least of suffi dent importance to call for the attention of all dairymen.

So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sha e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simplt uisoraers of the system are benefitted bj theii use. The great desideratum in theii administration has been to get one which has either laxative or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This hasat last been done.

Gaudianna River-

Tlie British army wnen it advanced on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases eontracteo on the banks of the Gaudiana than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the imadinp armj was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe than in out owt. country they exist throughout the length and breadth of our land— every where at some Unit and in some shape are we made to feel the sickening influence of miasm. The three gre»M actors in this equation of disease are solar heat, moivture, and vegetable decomposition. Tht uio, if separated, are harmless together thej are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need of a rn«-dicine which will overcome their pernicious eflects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable of meeting and beating the insidious enemy. Of all knowi agents for this purpose, none is to compare with Edward Wilder'i Chill Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degree of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. Try it, ail you who are suliering from any form of ague and fever or chills aud fever, as a cure is guaranteed in every case.

St. Louis Hospital, Paris.

This ancient institution is one ot the largest, and to the edical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is set apart lor patients suffering with diseases ol the skin, and every patient, old or young, ib taking potash in some shape, and Honduratsarsaparil lain same form. They were esteemed by the renowned physicians who had charge ol the skin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether ol rheumatic orscrofulous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettie-ash,rose-ash, pimples, scrofula, ulcers, old sores, falling oi the hair, etc. In all they did good, in ost the effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder'* Oarmparilla and Folcuh to perform the most remarkable cures awarded to any known medicine. It possesses viitnes shared by no other combination of these substances. It Is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the disease at which it is aimed it is simply resistless it never fails.
