A month expired ere the young wife could find such a ship, and on her arrival at Hong Kong she learned that the clipper in which her truant husband served was on her way to Sydney with a cargo of tea. Again she started but her trip to Sydney proved as unfortunate as her trips to London aud Hong Kong, for there she learned that her husband's vessel had ju»t sailed for New York with a cargo of wool. Luckily an American ship was up for New York iu a few days, and the captaiu, a light-hearted Yaukee, hearing her story, and admiring her courage and devotion, gave her a free passage back to her native land.
She arrived iu New York about two weeks ago, penniless and destitute. This, however, is not the worst, for the man in pursuit of whom she had circumnavigated the globe, she fouud living here with a worthless woman, and was conStrained to summon hioa to one of our civil courts ere she could compel him to recognize her rights as a wife and to proyitfe for her support,

Breeches of Fidelity.
A strange story has been floating about a portion of the neighborhood bounded by Harrison, Ripley, Eleventh and Sixteenth streets, for several days and it is quite certain there is some foundation to it. It runs in this way: One. night two weeks ago, a gentleman returned to his home quite late, after a jolly time with some companions, and went to bed. Somehow, half-tight as lie was, he couldn't sleep, despite the frequent commands of his wife: "Do stop tossing, and go to sleep, won't you?" In less than half an hour, his wife complained of violent pains. She became sicker and sicker and at last said she must die if she didu't have some medicine. The husband arose hurriedly, put 011 some clothes, ami hastened to a down-towu drugstore, to procure the stuff his wife desired. The medicine was put up, and he put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a wallet. It wasn't his wallet—it was plethoric, and his was seldom in that condition. He bent over and looked at the pants—they were dark, as were his, but they wern't his for all that.
He examined the roll in the pocketbook and it amounted to nearly three hundred dollars. He paid for the medicine, and went home, found his wife better, and willing to take but little of the compound. He looked for his pantsand they wern't to be found! The scene that ensued is not for public eyes and ears, but the wife wept and the husband wept— unavailing pennenoe on the one side, bitter sorrow and unflinching determination for separation on the other. The parties still live in the house, with as little communications as possible but the wife is soon to depart for the home from which the husband took her accompanied by a brother who is expected daily. Mayhap she is gone already. What course is to be pursued with the man who owned the pants, pocketbook, and papers which betrayed him, may have development in the courts ere long. This is the story, without sentimental varnish. The night clerk in the drug store clinches it a little, for he says that the husband stood and looked, first at the pocketbook and then at the pants, read a paper which he took from the former, and by-and-by ejaculated, "This is tunny!" It is far from being funny now. But we shall see what we shall see."

A Wife who Circumnavigated the Globe in Search of Her Husband. Mary Ann Wentworth was the only daughter of respectable New England parents, whose ancestors came over in the May Flower, aud whose grandsires had fought on the side of freedom in the Revolutionary War. At eighteen Mary Ann was the belle of her native village, and had a host of suitors. She married John Thompson, a young English sailor, and soon after their marriage he sailed for London, and three years afterward wrote to his wife that, he was about to sail for China. This letter changed all the young wife's plans. She determined to leave her child with her parents and take passage for Europe in the next steamer, But before she aiv rived in London her husband's vessel had sailed, aud having ascertained that the destination of the vessel was Hong Kong, she persisted iu following in the first ship going thither.

Smelled a Rat.
It happened at Snoodlevill, where some "years ago a well known vocalist whom we will call Mrs. A., Sitce distinguished for her superior talents, held a concert. Mr. •, a wealthy farmer of the place, who esteemed it a great privilege to offer hospitality to so distinguished a person, cordially invited Mrs. A. to his dwelling to spend the night she accepted the invitation, an Mr. 's farm house was neatly arranged and putin the best manner possible to receive their distinguished guest. Mrs. A. was conducted into the parlor aud invited to lay ott her things, among which was a costly set of furs, strongly scented with musk our country farmer, having never before smelled such perfumery, was greatly agitated, and began to search the house to

The whole family were soon eager search for the dead rat, disarrang ing all the articles of furniture about the house, and for some time considerable excitement prevailed, till the farmer wife, in her search for the dead rat, found out what it was that did smell queer. Nothing more was said about the dead rat to hurt the feelings of their guest, thinking that she had the misfor tune to get something on her furs which gave them a very offensive odor. She took her departure the next morning without knowing that they found the dead rat."

upon the pit of the stomach of a child, will cause the bowels to be emptied, and alloes kept in contact with a raw surface will produce same effect as if the medicine had been taken into the stomach. So said the great Dr. Clutterback. Very many persons know the operation of croton oil when placed upon the tongue, to say the least, it is speedy. Purgatives in some sha. e, are indispensable in the practice of medicine. Many diseases are incurable without them and all of the simple disorders of the system are benefitted by their use. The great desideratum in their administration has been to get one which has either laxative or purgative, as was needed—always mild but always efficient—and the use of which did not make it necessary to continue its use. This has at last been done. Edward Wildek's Family Pills fulfill all the requirements of the case. They area laxative, yet sure purgative, yet mild. In small doses, they meet the first want in large doses, they fulfill the latter but in whatever quantity given, they create no necessity for they create no morbid state of the alimentary canal tube, butleave it cleansed and urge it to renewed health. They are, in brief, a blessing to the individual who suffers from constipation and needs a laxative, and are indispensable to him who is parched witn fever and requires a purgative. Use them, all you who value health.
Helminthology.
A distinguished physiologist has declared that it seems to be a principle of nature that every situation capable of supporting organic bodies should be peopled with them. The huge whale is often driven .to madess by an almost invisible member of the tribe of vermes. The historv of Helminthology abounds in illustrations of the influence of worms in the production of disease and in the exasperation of their symptoms. The frequency of worms in the bodies of men their obviousness to the senses, together with their common connection with enfeebled and morbid states ol the animal economy, all tend to render them an object of interest from the remotest periods. The very ablest minds have been devoted to the study of these entoza with the view of discovering some substance which was capable of speedily, safely and permanently expelling them from the human sytem. Ed WAHD WlLDER'S MOTHER'S WORM SYRUP is true vermicide, a geunine worm destroyer, bona fide vermifuge. Its taste is delightful, its effects are quick, its results unfailing. It is free from danger. No intestinal worm can live in itspresense. Mothers! destroy the worms which infest your little ones, with this deiightfu syrup.
Dr. Laennec.
This renowned Frenchman did more perhaps to clear up the mysteries which before his time had invested the nature of chest diseases than any other physician who ever lived. Yet with all his skill in detecting the nature and form ol the malady before him, he was sadly deficient in his knowledge of remedies. He drew vivid pictures of coughs, colds, pleurisy, consumption, croup, bronchitis, catarrhs and *11 the affections of the air passages still he left but few words concerning their treatment. The young est physician to-day knows better how to manage any one of these chest troubles he knows the value of the wild cherry he is acquainted with its supreme virtues he is aware of the many potent agents which enter into the combination of Edward Wilders Compound Extract of Wild Cherry, and knows that with the use 01 this truly great medicine he is fully master 01 the situation. He has no fear in the presence ol croup, no misgivings at the advance of bronchitis he grapples wtth consumption, and sub dues every cough, cold, or catarrh. Hence every family should always have this invalnab medicine at hand.
Indigestion,
'Which makes sleep a pain, and turns its balm to wormwood," is, we all know, the most, common of all the disorders of the stomach. It is also the most obstinate. It has been the most written about. No disease presents such various, contrary, and incompatible symptoms. They contradict all the laws of order, constancy and inconsistency, which regulate natural events they bother the doctor, and can only be read- by him who is sallied in the book of nature. It is self evident tha the different forms of indigestion are to be met by corresponding methods of cure. It has been said that the perfection of medical skill is the talent of applying to each individual case its precise and as it. were, its individual cure. This is the object which every conscientious physician pursues unceasingly, and never can rest satisfied until he has overtaken. Edward Wilder'8 Stomach, Bitters, their body being the purest of copper-distilled whisky, makes this object attainable alike to all. They area specific—the disease specifying the remedy, not the remedy the disease. They are a combination of substances which meet the speciality 01 the disorder by a corresponding speciality ol cure. They should be kept in every well-regu-lated family they are indispensable to health.
Gaudianna Biyeiv
The British army when it advancea on Talavara and fought the celebrated battle, which was followed by a retreat into the plains, lost more men by the malarial diseases contracted on the banks of the Gaudiana than by the bullets of the enemy. They died by thousands All Europe believed that the invading army was extirpated. Yet malaria diseases are no more common in Europe than in out own country they exist throughout the length and breadth of our land—everywhere at some time and in some shape are we made to feel the sickening influence of miasm. The three grept actors in this equation of disease are sofar heat, moisture, and vegetable decomposition. The tiio, if separated, are harmless together they are more potent for evil than any other known agents so long as they exist, just so long will we have need 01 a medicine which will overcome their pernicious effects, so long will it be necessary to have a remedy capable of meeting and beating the insidious enemy. Of all known agents for this purpose, none is to compare with Edward Wilder's ChiU Tonic, the master of every form aud variety and grade and degree of malarial disease and of miasmatic poison. Try it, all you who are suffering from any form of ague and fever or chills and fever, as a cure is guaranteed in every case.
St. Louis Hospital, Paris.
This ancient instiltution is one ot the largest, and to the medical student, the most interesting of the many public charities which adorn the gay capitol of the French. It receives within its walls annually thousands of sick poor. A considerable portion of the building is set apart tor patients suffering with diseases oi the skin, and every patient, old or young, is taking potash in some shape, and Honduras sarsaparilla in some form. They w««» esteemed by the renowned physician tVho had charge oi the pUin department as well-specific in almost every variety of cutaneous disease, whether of rheumatic orscrofulous or simple origin. They were given in tetter, ringworm, nettle-ash,rose-ash, pimples, scrofula, ulcers, old sores, falling of the hair, etc. In all they did good, in most they effected a cure. But it has remained for Edward Wilder't Sarsaparilla and Potash to perform the most remarkable cures awanled to any known medicine. It .possesses virtues shared by no other combination of these substances. It Is a therapeutic marvel. Against all the disease at which it Is aimed, it is simply resistless it never fails. See to it that you suffer not one day longer with any of the ills which it cores. Get it at once.
